    In addition to Rodtang reading DJ's knee, countering with the sweep, and DJ countering the sweep by making the brilliant adjustment to land on his right foot, Rodtang read DJ was countering the sweep by righting himself and Rodtang was trying to free his left hand from DJ's right wrist tie in order to unleash a smoking left hook. DJ read that and countered by keeping his right wrist tie in place, killing the optimum timing for Rodtang's left hook-right hook combo. Rodtang countered DJ's right wrist tie with Forward pressure and balance disruption, which DJ fought with a left arm overhook to Rodtang's head. Rodtang's right hand sought the Muay Thai plum, but DJ countered that with a wrestling left shoulder pin, but Rodtang used that position to apply pressure to DJ's balance that eventually freed Rodtang's left hand to at last fire the left hook...
    ...which DJ ( having sensed and correctly reading the intentions of Rodtang's attacks and counters ) deftly ducked. Then? For good measure? DJ slipped the Rodtang right hook follow up hook too.
    This all happened in literally 3-4 seconds.

They're simultaneously using what European style psychologists call Crystallized Intelligence and Fluid Intelligence...which is only part of what my ancestors uncovered millennia ago. I'm a huge Fury fan but I'd be more interested in just a boxing match with elbows, kicks, knees and MMA gloves in a cage. That ruleset is interesting enough and favors Ngannou. As soon as you add wrestling, my man's getting dumped on his head FAST.

    One FC has the worst refs. I watched a couple of events, and the refs always stood way too close to the action. For example, in one event, a fighter straight up bumped into the ref trying to cut off the cage. Also, because most fighters in One FC can't grapple, they stand fights up even when wrestling/grappling is 51% of MMA. Like if they don't want people grappling, they should just stick to Muay Thai fights. They clearly have a lot more skilled competition there than they do in MMA.

    DJ really is the greatest flyweight of all time. Nobody comes close! Not only with his astonishing UFC title reign but the risks he's taking overseas are really cementing his legacy as one of the best to do it. DJ vs. Cejudo, Figgy or Moreno in Asia is $$$.

    The reason DJ was engaging in the first round and not being more elusive is because he can lose a percentage of his pay for avoiding the fight. Pretty sure 2 guys lost 20% each during their fight for not engaging.

      felt like he threw a few techniques he could use as a setup in the next round, showed he was willing to hold his ground and crack which after his kick he dips to the back, something Rodtang hadnt seen since DJ was clinching from that range not circling under him.

    There were no angles to show that DJ's toes were actually hooking the cage. I see his foot using it as a wall to leverage himself, but no hooking. At first, he had his toes go into the fence, but there was nothing to show it was being held there once a few seconds started to go off the clock. During this time, no one was moving or progressing anywhere. Remember, the only toes to actually protrude into the fence were the ring toe and pinky toe. With those little toes, it's nearly impossible to hold on to anything. DJ wouldn't have tried to go out there and do something like that on purpose. He's not that type of guy.

      I think it’s more about what is most comfortable for the fighter. Often fighters with a wrestling background will be more comfortable wrestling from southpaw and striking from orthodox.

    One problem for Muay fighters in general with these kind of setups is that the sport isn't really setup for 1st round KOs. They're usually expected to go a couple of rounds before they start actually trying to finish. It might be more competitive with an early round kickboxer/boxer KO artist although I would say one strong point for Muay is the excellent clinchwork.

    I bow to your superior knowledge, but I gotta disagree with the emphasis you put on the toes in the fence, he wasn't gripping, his toes we're not curled, in the replay you are looking at when talking about his toes "hooked in" his foot is clearly moving around on the fence, it's not hooked in. Then Rodtang literally does the move you said he should have done, he pulls him away from the fence opposite the side without a hook and DJ just rode it and kept the back. His toes were CLEARLY through the fence, and he could have been pushing off it, but I really don't think it was a deciding factor in DJ taking the back.

    • @DanHardyFR
      @DanHardyFR  2 роки тому +2

      I’m sorry my friend. I don’t think you are correct. If you watch the full speed version you can see the fence flexing as the two sway away from it.
      You’ve got to trust me on this one. I know a fence hold when I see one, and he wouldn’t have maintained the back had he not been hooked into the fence with his toes.
      The mechanics of the position don’t make sense without that piece in the puzzle, and the fence flexing is clear. Pull the fight up on UA-cam and watch it full screen.
