Lockly Secure Pro Smart Lock Review

  • Опубліковано 25 бер 2020
  • Today, we are going to check and test out the Lockly Smart Lock. This is their Secure Pro version which is their model that has the most features. Lockly has different type of smart locks and you choose from their deadbolt replacement model or their latch edition.
One feature that I'm interested about this smart lock is their fingerprint reader and also their patented PIN Genie technology which randomizes their keypad display making typing in your access code peep proof. This is also the smart lock that has all types of options to lock and unlock your door from using the traditional key and the keyhole, using the app via Bluetooth or WiFi, using the keypad and also using the fingerprint reader...and on top of that, if the battery runs out (Lockly states it will last for a year), you can use a 9 volt battery on the outside to temporarily power the lock so that you can input your access code or use the fingerprint sensor.
So, we will do the unboxing, check out its features, set it up, do the installation and test it out and see if this $300 dollar smart lock is the smart lock that you have been waiting for.

This is why I like this channel. No stone goes unturned. As for the review, I also shared many of your gripes upon first use. Though, for my personal applicable use, it works as it should perfectly and my gripes do not outweigh the functionality and usefulness of the lock as a whole. Anyway, great review as expected!

Thanks for the in-depth review. I do like some of the features of this device.
*However,* any smart lock that replaces a deadbolt *and* has a physical key option should mention if the locking mechanism can be upgraded/replaced. I bring this up because that is not always the case or easily done without substantial cost.
The physical key-way can be the weakest link in the security chain of any home. I learned this the hard way when I saw how easy it is to pick a kiwiset lock, for example. This can be an issue if you need to have a locksmith re-key a lock, as well. It's easy to see how any electronic features can be moot if the physical key is compromised.
If convenience is more of a priority than security, then this is a non-issue. But for this reason I have been looking at smart locks that only replace the latch mechanism side, and not the deadbolt itself.
From first looks at this smart-lock, it appears the deadbolt cylinder can be swapped out. But I think this should be an addition to your "review punch-list" going forward. Otherwise great work as always.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  4 роки тому +1

True. There are no mention of that in their user manual. There are warnings of voiding the warranty if you try to disassemble the lock...I might look at it and see.

Watch the video from Silver Eagle Locksmith. He shows how to replace the standard key cylinder with a higher security one. Its easy to do. By the way, the standard cylinder with this lock has 6 pins vs 5 pins on most lower security deadbolts, making the standard cylinder more secure than most out of the box.

I already use a Wyze contact sensor set on my door...I really don’t want to add another set. While I’m not a fan of the minimalist look of the Wyze Lock-it just looks too industrial-I am still considering it. I believe the lock on the front door should project more of a welcoming statement instead of housing prisoners 😜. I do love the look of the Lockly, but that price!! Another great video!!

After two failed attempts to connect the Eufy Smart Lock with WiFi to my 2.4GHz network, I have returned them. I am very sad about that, as it would have incorporated nicely with my Eufy smart home. Now considering this Lockly unit. A few quick questions (before I order it):
1a - Does it really come with only two keys? 1b - Are they traditional keys that I can have duplicates made from?
2 - In the video you said that this unit cannot be scheduled to lock at a certain time of day. On the Lockly website it says it has an “Auto Lock” feature: “Set timers in advance to have your door lock automatically when you need it to.” Is this a schedule or a countdown timer, like, lock the door in 5 hours? But I know I can set a schedule in the Alexa app.
Thank you again for another great video!

Your door is backwards, the outside part should be on the inside and the door should open inward so the deadbolt isn't exposed on the outside. Also your hinges would be on the outside also so they could be disassembled by an intruder.

Needs to have your phone in setting up.

Yes, you can use the lock to set up a code manually but I suggest to use the phone app. It's more manageable to use.

The only issue I see is battery life. I wish it could last 5yrs.

    Your Code is: 23146450
Also will this integrate with ST or Hubitat? Maybe I missed it in the video. You could also disable the notifications from the lock and enable (or create routine) in Alexa for the notifications you want. Except maybe the "wrong attempt" notification, unless Alexa records those too. Great video, thanks.

    • @LifeHackster

It will integrate with just Alexa and Google Home at this time. Yes, you can use Alexa routine to connect with the lock or actually just the door sensor.. there are no notifications for the locking and unlocking.. just the door opening and closing. Also, the code is not the right answer. thanks.

one of the things which I don't like about most smart locks is the lack of a key override
as when the batteries go flat, I wouldn't have a 9V battery on me (and even if I did, how would I know that the 9V battery wasn't faulty or flat), and there aren't any shops that I would be able to get to that sell batteries, so a key override is pretty much essential for me
It's a pity that it's pretty much IMPOSSIBLE to find a smart lock that would be compatible with our door, AND has a key override

      This one has key override

    • @ilox11

@Pineapple Road, at 3:28 you can see the key override, at 4:15 you can see that it comes with 2 standard house keys. They look like they might be able to be replaced/duplicated by a Locksmith. The hardware has 6 bumps in the chamber, most have only 5 so it is slightly more secure but still vulnerable to an expert Lockpicker.

mine came wired too which i had to mount close to the lock itself, were there 2 versions or something?

I have a wireless one purchased together with the Secure Pro. I think it depends on what model of WiFi hub you are using, mine is PGH 200.
