Geely buys Lotus: "a very positive impact on the brand"
>This kills the Elise and the Exige
2:55 Wow! What a great *sport car*
Lotus Elise Cup ❤️
Those colors are amazing. Why anybody would want a car like this in black or white is beyond me.
I will admit I like the clean clinical look of white cars, but I prefer annoying colours.
@@UnleashElise Well they do make red cars and blue cars for a reason. You want white, cool. Me, if I'm spending $100K+, I'm juicing it up a little.
Who doesn’t love lotus? My eternal Petrolhead faq
How is Geely's ownership working out for Lotus? Will the British brand manage to keep its individuality? Looking forward to learn your thoughts
Geely wants new models and their own powertrain. Do not be surprised if they are not looking into reviving the Elan and Esprit names with Merc helping with engines. Buying Aston Martin would satisfy their interest in an SUV without having to develop one by modifying the DBX for Lotus.
Plans look good but ashame there quietly closing 2 factory's to save money and put people out of work !!!!
Hey, I have not heard about that. Can you send me a news clipping? I actually read that Geely might be opening another Lotus factory in the UK
The buzz I have heard from the factory is that the decades of shoe string budgets is over, the Evija is proof positive of that.
I wish they still sold the new v6 Exiges in the USA RHD. Currently have a 300hp 05 Elise thats so fun
It's supposed to be going over there next time they update it, which is in the next few years afaik. Along with the new Elise.
They have to add more safety stuff for the US though, so it will be heavier.
I'd love to see an Esprit model again. Still love the look. Not bashing the current line up one bit. While the on paper numbers don't get that many people excited once you have been in one the entire formula makes amazing sense.
AMAZING CARS FANTASTIC AMAZING MAGICAL
the elise needs a high reving inline 4 engine 8000 plus rpm somthing like k20 putting out say 220-250 hp and it will have itself a great car
They have yet to produce an 'affordable' EXOTIC replacement for the Esprit. The Evora is not exotic enough by comparison. If you want top dollar, Lotus, take the Evija stylist team and have them re-introduce the Esprit. The Evora looks like an updated mid-1990s Toyota MR2.
See for example en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_MR2#/media/File:Toyota_MR2_W20_002.JPG
Just looks like they 'bulged out' and restyled the old MR2. And oh by the way the Evora has a Toyota engine.
The Esprit V8 had an ENGLAND motor. The Esprit V8 had twin turbo, flat plane crank, and capable of 550hp (it was detuned so as not to destroy the Renault-sourced gearbox). That engine was way ahead of its time - the 2020 mid-engine Corvette still does not have a flat-plane crankshaft.
Put an updated Esprit V8 in the Evora platform and re-do the freaking body.
The Evora does not look exotic enough. It looks like Toyota produced it.

True words. I own an 02 Anniversary Esprit and an 11 evora .. both heavily modified. And although the evora is a better driving car, its presence and curb appeal fall short of the Esprit
Check out the Lotus C-01 it is lovely
Got to love a Lotus, regardless of the parent. Tantalizing lineup, just hope they never, never, never ever make an SUV.
I hope they make it accessible in more markets
Me too. For example, in the US, only Evija and Evora are available
I'll take an Evoura GT in the John Player Special livery with red mirrors and brake calipers, thanks.
Lotus is the most challenging manufacturing choice for my dream car.
I’d kill for the Exige to be available in the US!
I have An exige 410 amazing car
LOTUS
Kills 💣
I would really appreciate that you put the SI metric on the screen because yeah having most of the world don't use imperial and havinf to switch tabs to convert is not a great watching experience
Ok, I always try to fit metric values, but sometimes they get squeezed out by other specifications. I'll make sure to double check specs in the future.
The Esprit should return in their lineup.
I believe the rumour is the next new car is the Elan £100k+ replaces the Evora and will have a volvo geely engine possibly hybrid.
HS Clips honestly if so it’s gonna be cheaper if too compete and catch interest
@@raheemsmith5655 I agree it has to cheaper. The brand Lotus is no way in the same bracket as Ferrari and Lamborghini.
Geely is a public company listed in Hong Kong, not private.
Hey, all I said was that it is Chinese automaking giant.
But check out their Wikipedia page, it says they are a privately held company, headquartered in Hangzhou.
Latest news is lotus is bringing this line up to an end and is going forward with the Evija and a new car refered to as the type 131.
The Lotus Works Formula 1 Team's last season was 1994.
lourus? you missing T mate?
The EVIJA name is just ALIVE backwards (specially using the font they picked). It's not another language. Also, Lotus made a very limited run of an electric Elise in the 90s, so the EVIJA is not their first electric vehicle.
Hi, thanks for the info about the electric Lotus. As to the name, according to Lotus's press release, it was inspired by Hebrew. But it does look like Alive backwards. Cool observation.
This was a cool video but what's with the title? There was only 1 new sports car. 1 was an older model. One is an electric hyper car. Ones a race car. And one is a bicycle..
Hey, thanks. Check out the definition of a super/hyper/racecar, all are derivatives of a sportscar. There are 5 of them in the video, though one is indeed an older model.
Lotus and McLaren are the only ones who do not make SUVs! Thank you...
Thanks for watching the video. Is it a good thing in your opinion?
cars under $60,000 Is where lotus is strong. $120,000 and I'm heading to the McLaren showroom.
yum yum exige omg
The Evora GT won’t do well in the US... Not at a starting price of $97k and with the 2020 C8 coming out in a few months. The C8 starts at $59k and has specs that blow the Evora GT out of the water in almost, if not all ways.
I am doubtful that Lotus is trying to challenge the new Vette. Lotus lacks the production capacity to match.
No sports cars will 'do well' in the USA...They're about to enter a cataclysmic recession. Lotus should make a Sport SUV, engineer Active-Ride suspensions (for other companies) and bring back 1000kg small sports cars with No Aero wings that cost much less. (with lighter engines that are not V6's. oh, and make cars that tall people can still adjust a reasonable seating position.
@@TomTom-bh2wf er...Bro..The 09 GFC Recession was blown up to a gigantic bubble with money printing. To educate your Dumb Ass i'll remind you that the early 70's "Oil Crisis" was ACTUALLY a Money Printing Crisis...ie..Inflation is coming to the USA. Bonus Point for you...Sports cars aren't selling much at all; want a bet the new Corvette flatlines big time?
@@Dave.S.TT600 China bought Australia, mate. The States use China as a manufacturing plant. All recessions are global. You're in for a worse shock than the States are.
@@rickc2102 Agree. Australia's a Nanny State too. Anyway, i'm Pro USA but the fact that the USA has bben taken over by corporations who have gamed the political system and moved manufacturing overseas to China does not bode well for the USA (and The West) The Globalists have 'Used' The States. The States have given China a free kick. Anyway, The Vette going mid engine is another GM fuck up, from a business point of view. Maybe a great car though. Goodbye Rick.
I know the C8 has turned the sports car market on hits head, but I think if they made the lotus 410 (I think that's what is called, just seen the car first time on the this vid) around the 60k dollar mark. I think it would be very successful, but I just think the C8 especially when z06 model comes out. It going to kill its sales.
See your point, but the Exige Sport 410 is not available in the US☹️
@@AutomotiveTerritoryDailyNews That does suck that it is not in the US I really do like the design and the idea of lightweight sports car with some HP, but I would love to see some direct competitors for the C8.
a bit like Koenigsegg
Missed the most important figure for a Lotus - the weight.
My bad. I did mention it in some of the reviews, but not in all. Sorry
And the new elise will never come ??? They Have been announcing its release for years !! I do not understand...
The lotus evora. Not bad for a supercharged carmy
One thing i love is that the price tag is ok or u could get a Porsche 718 spyder around that price.
@@trevisfletcher2067 dependable as a 300hp motor. Nothing about Lotus has ever been dependable.
Il posteriore è la 4 c alfa romeo
Damn
Automotive Territory: Daily News yeah they’re all awesome and look great
If someone wants to upgrade their old Lotus ( right hand drive ) for one of these, just bring it to visit me...
Very nice exige's, evora a mixed bag for me but the pricing is way off. It's a glued together(literally) aluminum toyota. Handling aside the cars are incredible but over priced. Nice though for purists with the money
@@AutomotiveTerritoryDailyNews hmm, depends @ 60k ish probably the corvette. I know it lacks some prestige but now mid engine and a great bang for the buck. At roughly 100k, boy that opens some doors. Maybe a porsche, either 911 or gts4 Cayman. The jaguar f type, an Aston Martin. Not really sure
People say that they are too expensive.. the funny thing is, that if you buy a new porsche 911 for the same money as the Evora.. In 10 years, the Evora will fetch a hell of a lot more money.. Look what a used 2010 Evora costs.. They still bring 40k here and they sold new off the lots in 2010 for 60k
@@mythos000000025 but look what a 10 year old vette costs and what a 10 year old Evora costs.. a 2010 Evora still brings 40k when it was 60k new.. and a 10yo vette is 15k lol
@@BlacksheepLSX these statements are generally true but I personally don't bye cars for residual value. I buy cars to either drive for fun or function. I had an evo and that was my daily. My fd3s is my toy car. A new Corvette purchase would be a mixed bag of both and probably anything else I buy so I'm not really worried about how much I'll get 5 to 10 yrs down the road for the car
AU19 BHP = 19 Buff Horse Power
I've been buying Lotus cars new from the dealer here in the U.S. since 1996. I was considering getting an Evora GT.
China's leadership (the communist party) has just "nationalized" Saleen that had established a branch in China. That was a stupid thing to do. I do not trust any large purchase coming out of that country. I don't know how their leadership could take that kind of action without considering the fear induced in prospective buyers of chinese products. I just don't follow that logic.
By seizing Saleen's operations, that says "don't trust us, we do not respect private property." I would not buy any Lotus. I feel bad about that, a bit, having been a Lotus owner for so long. But my goodness, what a dumb move.
Real scary.
.
.
Oh, wow. Thanks for letting me know. I'll have to read up about.
Except for thr 2 million dollar electric model. Nothing really new yet just refreshed model's
Still using toyota engines?
Yes, since 2004. Though they aren't exactly the same as the standard Toyota engines and Lotus use their own ECU and tunes.
$96,950.... 😂😂😂
Ricahard Rivas
That’s crazy 😅
The new Mustang Shelby GT500 starts from 75k and over 700hp
The Evora is worth it, I wish it was cheaper but I’d buy it if I had the money. I want a used 2020 GT in a few years when they depreciate.
So...nothing actually new for 2020 then!
How about Evora GT, Evija, Lotus Bicycle, and Evora Gt4? All are new
Chinese ?
They own Lotus and Volvo now, but are very much allowing the companies to retain their identities.
Lotus should put their Elise on a strict diet. For me it is too fat and heavy now.

Evija looks good, everything else sucks.
Automotive Territory: Daily News Their rears look good but those headlights... Evora looks like a cheap mclaren thats not cheap, the exige is like a cheap vette thats... Nvm. They should build off of the evija, I'd like to see a more affordable version of that.
Is this narration computer generated? Don’t bother to answer . . . the fact I had to ask is proof how terrible it is.
A bit of bollox, can’t even get simple facts right.
Lotus left F1 end of 2015 season !!!
The Lotus Works Formula 1 Team's last season was 1994. The two teams competing in the 2010's merely bought the names.
Why the evora has a Chinese communist flag on its back?
That is the example presented at Shanghai for a future GT4 competition. Its livery combines British and Chinese flags.
i think Geely will ruin the brand.
