    A proper arcade with a pool table, etc like we had back in the 80s and 90s would be nice

      I agree. Ed's Funcade used to have a location on that pier walkway that he is walking on at 4:40 (used to be a lot smaller and had a smaller building before they built the expanded pier and building) that had pool tables and a Circus Voltaire pinball machine as well as a few good arcade machines, but after that building closed and got demolished, there hasn't been any other good arcades that far north. The other, still existing Ed Funcades are just crap these days with mostly redemption machines (which I call "legal gambling for kids"), only one or two real arcade machines and no pinball machines.

    Lived on 23rd one summer. Walked by that Motel all the time. Would be nice if it could be refurbished and reopened. Pretty sure the roof (repair) is just a temporary fix. Hope for the best for that place

    Seems like many places being on sale, especially hotels, restaurants. I hope that doesn't alter too much the Wildwood I enjoyed since 1966.

    How about an arcade with you know, fun games to play (not redemption casinos)?

      Honest, they are probably not profitable and sustainable anymore. The places that require you to rack up points/tickets/tokens is able to generate money as people keep playing until either they win something or come back regular/yearly to keep racking it up.

      @@brianhaflin9799 They are profitable, based on how retrocades are doing these days, but the owners want quick profits and instead of giving entertainment to adults and kids, are instead swamping with legal gambling for kids with those redemption machines.

      @@djargus Yes, but for something on the boardwalk where you are only really open 90 days out of the year than you have to have a business concept that make the $10,000+ per day. Is a retrocades really going to do that? Plus, most of the older games are not worth much and have huge price tags to maintain them.

    • @djargus
      @djargus Рік тому

      @@brianhaflin9799 Except Silverball Museum on the boardwalk in Asbury Park is year round, so yes the retrocade concept has been tried and has been proven to be successful. Jilly's in Ocean City, NJ, north from Wildwood is a standard arcade and is also open 364 days a year. There is no restriction upon Wildwood boardwalk that would prevent companies from doing year round business there.

      Can remember Wildwoods in the early 60's. Boardwalk at night was wall to wall people the two weeks we were down there every summer. Now have way too many so so tourist trap restaurants. We use d to eat breakfast and diner at the Hitching Post in North Wildwood. NIW another ugly condo.

    Is the new fudge store going to open at the same location? I did not know that the Bogles had sold it till you mentioned it a couple of weeks ago. The Cape May location was pretty much the same but Wildwood by the convention hall looked a little anemic and in need of freshening and a restocking. Keep us posted on the new store. I give Fudge Kitchen a lot of mail order business and would be sad if the new owners don't keep up the Bogles' standards.
