Follow the money; don't marry your bags. Money in crypto always flows to the new shiny stuff, basically, narrative is king. SEI is less than half a year old. How would Solana have looked at 6 months old when compared to an older chain for many of these metrics? What will happen to Solana when the memecoin season ends? Look at Doge and Shib compared to their all-time high.

You cannot compare SOL and SEI, the purpose is completely different. SEI is 100% EVM compatible, this means it will take a huge part of ETH applications once version 2 comes to market. The developers don't need to port the application to SEI since it is 100% Solidity and EVM compatible. This is not the case with SOL. SEI is not a SOL killer but a serious ETH competitor.
He is “comparing” the 2 because of the internet pumping “sol killer” so he is sharing the data to his community. If the internet pumps “sol killer” that means the internet pumpers are comparing the two.
Yeah I have to agree with bruno. they are both defi orientated L1s, you cant really say they aren't. You make a fair point about EVM compatibility though, that is a huge asset and does make it a big ETH competitor. Its worth mentioning that there are several ways EVM dapps can work on Solana
I don’t know if you can pull the data but it would be good to compare all these parameters at the same time from launch. Not easy to measure a mature asset verses one that is just being adopted.
The "technical winner" is not always the winner. James needs to remember HDDVD was technically better than Blu-Ray but lost, BetaMax was superior tech to VHS but lost. There are many more examples like this through technological advance. I think James puts way to much faith in SOL being the winner in the end.
well when you take into account the size of the multiple moats sol has on top of 35000% more developer production to further those moats its hard not to also put the same amount of faith, but fair enough I do see your point
Why compare SOL and SEI? Aside from the fact they both begin with an 's' and have 3 letters, the similarities end there. SEI is EVM parallelisation, so if anything it's a more appropriate to compare it with ETH.
SEI could cut into his model of SOL chipping away at ETH market cap. If app developers have a simpler and equally performant alternative to SOL, which supports their currently existing EVM-oriented smart contracts and applications, they'll obviously choose that.

I suppose that the better comparison would be compare SEI now with SOL in the past, when Solana was at a similar levels of engagement, maturity, etc...
sol is way more mature and older, it became a "safer" investment for sure based on current data. However, SEI is hiring and it has a huge potential of becoming an alt coin gem. They are newborn and have a lot of hype due to its 50% fundamentals and of its 50% pampamentals.
Sei has more potential for upside . Let’s face it and be honest . That’s what we’re here for . Also Sol operates in it’s on private playground which is a limiting choke point Imho. Whereas Sei plays in the big open playgrounds of Ethereum thus giving it way more potential. Potential is key as that’s what drives price. Sol is apparently fabulous but it’s operates as an island whereas Sol is in a vast continental community.

The metrics you are using is not a fair comparison in my opinion because of the age of the chain. Couldn’t you look into growth and where Solana was at this point after its release to compare instead? If SEI was even in the ballpark of daily active users as SOL that would be incredible with the age of the SEI blockchain.

I find this to be a ridiculous comparison One is brand new and the other is one of the largest cryptos that's been around and is established. Only way to compare them fairly is if you compare the same time frame like when Solana just started.

After using SUI over the past 2-3 months, I think SUI could be *"Baby" Solana or comparable to where SOL was last cycle around the same time frame.* SOL has been by far my favorite chain over the past 3 years, but SUI is giving me very similar vibes. **SUI** not SEI to clarify given that SEI is featured in this video.

Absolutely, you can. Both are L1s with similar intentions, and there are parallelized EVM projects in Solana, such as Neon EVM, addressing this.

solana has survived alot of mishaps, crashes etc, and has proven resilient , what happens when Sei has a crash?
I guess we will find out if the community will stay loyal and hold their bags during a dip or panic sale because it's going to "zero".
