  • If you have a horse that tends to act up when tied, the reason behind it usually stems from a much bigger problem that has nothing to do with being tied. The reason could be that your horse is buddy sour or has tons of excess energy from the type of feed he gets for example. In this video, I'm going to talk about what you can do to help your horse with this. When you start to work on this behavior, it’s important to make sure you give your horse the time to work on it.
When you’re working on this, you’re also working on your horse’s mental soundness. I developed a list that will tell you if your horse is where he needs to be mentally.
Grab my mental soundness checklist for free here to see if your horse checks off all the boxes: sp.carsonjames...

Make sure not to do this against a wall. I had a boss that installed on doing this in a stall high on the wall and I couldn’t convince him that it was a bad idea. We ended up having a horse break his leg from pulling back and coming down against the wall with a straight leg.

Love your videos they have really helped me. I have an 8 year old gelding I rescued last year as a stallion. The previous owner to be frank was an idiot who claimed to be a horseman. I have a difficult time getting him to lunge clockwise. He will do it off lead but I’m trying to teach him to face me when he changes directions. What can I do to make the transition from counter clockwise to clockwise?

But if they slip they’re hanging from their neck. Is that something to be worried about?

I’m not sure I would tie a horse using a rope halter. I also think you should work with the horse and not tie him for hours alone. Where’s the teaching in that? Maybe after you work with them THEN you can tie the
, but not straight off. Sorry don’t agree

Tie wither height, arms length and use a neck rope, Do not tie with a halter
Pick something solid,, tie properly and let them figure it out
