    The titan xd was meant to compete against 1/2 ton trucks not 3/4 ton. This is where some people get confused. It is meant for the person who will be towing in the 10000 or less crowd. Where it beats other 1/2 tons like ram and ford is the diesel, its size and weight. When ford and ram are getting blown all over the road when they tow that trailer the titan stays true and steady because of wheelbase and weight but fuel economy will be sacrificed. Ford gets great mileage out of it's new light weight 150s but it sacrifices security when trying to tow that 8000 lb trailer on a windy day or when a big truck blows by. I'm sold by the Cummins, the stability and the warranty of the Titan xd....its a niche market. I recommend however is buying one slightly used with low miles as this brand depreciates quickly and you will get a far better deal.

    • @aaronfrankum8941
      @aaronfrankum8941 5 років тому +2

      Its more the 9k - 12k towing that it is good for. The half tons can do it but you get pushed around the XD is designed to handle that better.

    • @bladedspokes
      @bladedspokes 5 років тому +4

      @@aaronfrankum8941 if you do the calculations you'll find that the most common XD diesel are only good for towing about 8-10k assuming driver-only, limited by payload. For example the payload on my XD is about 1600lbs. Add another person and extra fuel (I had a 50 gallon tank put in mine - Nissan went with a small fuel tank to goose the payload numbers) and I'm at 1000lbs. At MINIMUM you need to have 10% of your GTW on the ball, so if I push the limits of safety I can pull 10000lbs. It's better to have 12-15% on the ball, which reduces my safe towing capacity to 6500-8500lbs.
      Never ever go by the advertised weights. They are meaningless. You must do the calculations based on your DOT sticker every time you pull.

    • @dufus2273
      @dufus2273 5 років тому +1

      my 2006 titan 5.6L is rated to tow 9500lbs. so the diesel is rated at 10,000 lbs for 50.000 dollars difference. not interested in 3.75/gal diesel AND DEF whatever that is. I've had 3 dodge diesels and my older titan pulls 10, 000 lbs just great, with tow package. would buy another gas model . plenty of power for sure. Just guessing here, it's [diesel] overrated and way overpriced. buy a gas one. never had a warranty issue. never had to go back to the dealership.

    power house? thats laughable, I owed a cummins titan its far from a powerhouse, the truck is very comfortable and feels very safe but trying to get out in rush hour traffic is very dangerous cause lack of take off power, my other complaint was the DEF it uses alot, look at the specs diesel or gas V8 the V8 will do same thing get same fuel mileage without the extra maintenance and the cost and annoyance of the DEF, with out a trailer the cummin cant compete with V8 it will take the cummins off the line and in the 1/4 mile so this truck is only good for nissan peeps

    • @Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix
      @Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix 5 років тому +1

      The probl is how nissan has the throttle mapping and torque management set up. It's horrible. Throttle tip in is very slow and you don't get full power in first or second gear. Feels like it pulls harder passing from 65 than it does accelerating 0-60. A deal commander or a good tune makes a huge difference, even when it's in Stock mode. No more dead pedal and the truck has a much better throttle response. The engine has plenty of power, but how it's programmed really ruins what the engine is really capable of.

    • @joenissan
      @joenissan 5 років тому

      It uses a tank of DEF, 4.5 gallons, every 2500 miles or so. That’s hardly a lot. If you’re towing a lot, that’s when you spring for the diesel. Otherwise, yes....the gasser will do.

    • @rayfullerton8360

      good luck with that, I had terrible experience with this POS, constant check engine light, by the time it had 30k on it EGR went out, turbo went out, sold it with 36k mile didn't even get half what I paid for it and it was only 18 mo old, doesn't hold its value, potential it might have well I wouldn't waste time and money on this again, Im not bashing the post or you guys at any means, just letting people know my experience, real life not made up, and I spent alot of money on the truck cause I really thought I was going to have it for a long time but I couldn't see owning it for 5-6 years wondering if i was going to get stranded out of town or after my warranty was up and the check engine light came on cause my DEF was at 10%, too much headache, my dodge cummins after 260K never spent that much time in shop the titann did in 18 months, the titan itself most likely hassle free with the gas over the cummins is my thought

    Fuel nozzle can’t accept the high flow pumps
    Turbo lag
    Fuel filter change intervals-10k really?

      10k fuel filter change is common on diesels. Fuel nozzle can be fixed to accept the high flow pump. I get 450-500 miles a tank, def i fill up on it seems to be 1500-2000 miles.

    • @danc.2167
      @danc.2167 5 років тому

      Clay Kann Duramax and Powerstokes are up to 22,500 miles and the 6.7 Cummins is 15,000 miles I believe. So the XD is a little less 5k than its big brother and 12,500 less than the other two. So, your wrong. I replace mine myself at a cost of roughly $100 and that’s from the Cummins dealer.
      And I did the “fix” on my fuel nozzle. It’s better, but not a 100% fix

      The supposed turbo lag is nonexistent when you drive the truck with the traction control turned off! I have a 16 with 60,000 on it and it still drives awesome and if your getting 4x4 trucks your going to sacrifice mpg because you are pushing 2 transmissions, mines 2 wheel drive and and I still get 18 to 20 as daily driving. I do hate the small fuel tank but I do like not going broke at the pump also and I don’t use a lot of DEF because my commute is interstate and not traffic light to traffic light driving.

    I have the Titan XD gas version. I like the truck. I think it looks good but I can't stand the way it shifts. There's no rhyme or reason to the way it shifts. It uses the transmission as a brake even when it doesn't need to. It also hesitates in the beginning of changing gears and it stays in higher gears too long. I had the original Titan and this truck is nothing like it. The XD is definitely more truck. It's steering is very heavy and why do you need 7 gears? I hate to say it but I think it was a better truck when Nissan was more involved in the design.

      @@dalephillips8250 I've had my truck since Feb of 2019 Dale and I've got just over 4000 miles. I want to say the shifting has improved a bit, but from what I understand, the transmission learns and adjusts to the way you drive. I pulled a trailer with it the other day, it seems to shift smoother when there's a load on it. It's more truck than I'll ever need and the more I drive it the more satisfied I feel. It's just nothing like the 05 Titan I had. It'll probably outlast me. I bought it because I thought I got such a good deal on it. I'm averaging a little better than 16 mpg. If I had to buy it again I'd probably go with the regular Titan. The only reason I didn't Dale is because I got this one cheaper than what they were asking for a regular Titan.

I need to know the longevity of these things before I purchase. Right now I think as far as interior features, interior materials, and exterior features(locking rear diffs, larger more aggressive tires) the Titan has more than the Tundra. Who actually uses the grandpa bumper step? If you can't put your foot up on the bumper and pull yourself up you shouldn't own a truck.

    Payload on the diesel is laughable, I checked on a Platinum Reserve trim it had only 1380lbs payload, that’s 100lbs less than my 2007 Tundra!

      You have bad numbers there bud. Xd 2wd is around 2k and 4x4 is a little less than that. You were looking at the regular titan numbers.

      @@jakemartin343 The payload number is on the sticker, not in the owners manual. 1400# is about right for a PR trim 4x4 diesel. @dimplez is right... what they advertise is way different than what it can actually do.

      It’s true, the payload sucks. I have this exact truck. Mine says something around 1730lb, which is very disappointing. But almost everything else about the truck is awesome. I pull a 37’ 11000lb travel trailer and it’s fantastic. Interior comfort is a 10/10.

      @@SuperTubbyTube I pretty much decided on the Titan XD but I will go with the gas version. Just wished they stepped up with the competition: adaptive cruise control, automatic braking, bigger tank and so on. Can`t wait to get the truck!

    Its lacking in power, fuel tank size to small. When half tons are towing and cost less why buy this things. 3/4 price for half ton towing. Most owner reviews start out ok then they say we traded it in for a real dodge 3/4 or another of the big 3 trucks.

    • @Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix

      Because they handle the load alot better. Sure an f150 with the max tow package will tow just as much but it is not as stable as the titan xd. When you're towing higher weights on the regular but don't want the rough ride of a 3/4 ton this fits the bill. I wasn't sure about whether it was worth it or not but I got one and while it doesn't have as much power as my F350 it is just as stable and has no problem towing. It tows my trailer alot better than a half ton.

      Jonathan Watts I agree it needs a bigger fuel tank. My dad has an 18 platinum reserve model gasser and it tows his bass boat just fine. He came from a 10 f-150 king ranch 35 gal fuel tank but the transmission was always looking for a gear.

      60k miles on mine with 0 problems. Maybe I got lucky. Driven through 25+ states including adventures in Yellowstone in the winter, Moab Utah, and the Colorado mountains during a 3 day blizzard. It’s not my favorite truck though.. it’s mostly awesome, but there are a few things that really annoy me.

      bluemut55 Just stating fact as I've researched. I had a 78 Datsun pick up that got 287k. Like anything else if you take care of it and don't get too many built in defects or you plain get lucky. Speaking off design problems l have a '17 F150. I had to put an oil catch can on it to catch all the blow by. The direct injection doesn't spray on the valves so you can get massive carbon build up. Congrats on your mileage, but fess up, No problems?

      @@lonewolf2364 No I'm good. Do I like the General Grabbers?.....no but any factory installed tires are garbage. Trucks been like a brick thru a plate glass window. A friend bought one based on my experience. His has been ultra reliable. My Dodge, leaked like a sieve until they replaced seals, Ford's spark plugs stuck in the heads. With Chevy it was the wheel bearings. All of them needed new brakes at 60,000 klms. My Nissan brakes are like new at 92K. Maybe I'm just lucky but I love my truck.

    I would not buy a Nissan truck as I owned a Titan before; Nissan corporate does not stand behind it's products. Many conversations about warranty, parts failures that are absolutely safety issues go completely ignored. I owned a boat dealership with multiple brands and understand when a company stands behind a product or not. Check out a video here on UA-cam Nissan TItan Horror Story
