Have I4 on order....thanks for that very honest review...I believe once the dct software is updated and adding a bit more boost, she will be a proper weapon at 100k US.
@@rd5140 That’s good news. I’m pretty sure that the cooling system will have been looked at simply because those engines run so hot. 400ps from the i4 is probably a precursor to the V6 being deleted. Anyway, you’re buying a fabulous car that will feel very special.
Hi Pete. Nice to see you enjoying the Emira. I think i prefer the sound of the V6 and the manual gearbox. But both are to expensive for me, so i don't have to think about. :) For now i enjoy my supercharged Elise S2 .:) Your track driving is getting better and better. Greetings from the Netherlands 😊
It really has quite a different sound than the V6 doesn't it, yet it looks just the same out on the track. It looks so stable and composed out there. Doesn't look like it wants to kill you either. What a fun little car!

Living in a big city, the DSG Emira is probably the best choice. The dark green one with tan interior would be my ideal combo. Im quite likely to buy this car next year. Are there any known faults with it?
Surprised they made the Emira with less HP than it's predecessor. I owned a 2021 Evora GT and while it was fun in the beginning, i felt it could've used 500HP to give it both track and straight line performance. I sold the Evora GT and quite happy with it's replacement, a Huracan 610, albeit a different price point.
Everyone is giving the Emira big love. Shmee150 went out and bought one and he swears by it. This has the new 4 cyclinder AMG engine. Thing is sound but AMG sound is good sound so this should be a fun package. Love to see your take on it.

Nice. I would have difficulties to choose between the 4 and 6. AMG is maybe more sensible, if Emira can be called sensible. Would love to see your take on the BYD Seal that's parked behind you at the start.
Just waiting for the special edn. V8 powered one, then it would be worth buying. That I4 sounds like a vacuum cleaner, regardless of whether it's in a Lotus or Merc. And the V6 struggles because it's manual only. The chassis can easily handle 400bhp+
you can get the V6 in auto. I have the manual and its a little cluncky but makes you very precise with the gear changes and sounds amazing. Its a great car in any variant. Great video and well done Lotus
Hi Ped Good looking car with handling to match and even with 4 cylinder maybe a good choice for road use. However would you choose this against a Cayman which would appear to be its nearest competitor?
Lotus won't let anyone test Chinese 400hp I4 Emira vs 400hp V6. Love to see comparison on track. Im ordering I4 in a couple years but keeping Evora 400. Rear is lighter and center of gravity is lower making it a better track weapon over V6
Sounds like there's two up in the car. The two litre AMG probably has a ton of options available for it as well. Maybe lighter too, I would struggle with that reverse park myself, no pressure lol!
Having fun there fella. At least it wasn't raining and fairly dry... when it is going to stop raining in this country... Looks like a cracking car the Emira...
What a really nice car and I think if I was in the market for one it would be the auto as then I could concentrate on the throttle and steering even though I do love a manual in a sportier car. Great film as usual Mr P.
I have the Emira 2.0 with 405hp in china. It would be faster than the v6 version. But the v6 sounds much more great. The only annoying thing the gearbox software, a little bit laggy. We do hope the engineer from lotus could have an updated gearbox software soon!!
The gear change was so slow I thought the video was out of sync with the audio. Come on Lotus. This is not acceptable at this price point. (A price point that has incidentally spiralled out of hand. You're looking nearer to £80K than the promised £60k!)
Watching you flick the paddles and then hearing it shift sounds like an eternity in between. Doesn't sound like the AMG DCT that I know. Did they have a different transmission tune on it? I.e. - a slower setting?
I think my S1 111S with Rover VVC Engine with Induction Kit and and Janspeed exhaust and manifold sounds better. Perhaps you should borrow an original Elise. I think it would put a much bigger smile on your face with 200bhp less.
That does seem like a well-judged engine & gearbox combination… By the by, what camera did you use (are you using) for the opening piece to camera? It is pin sharp and has a lovely soft depth of field at that exposure. 👌
The gearing sounded off to me. Seems to really drop a lot of revs when changing and have to build back up again, like its long geared, whereas my PDK is quick to get back to the red line. Maybe its just the way it sounds on video, or not?. Think id still go V6 Manual.
I don’t understand how they make a DCT so bad, I’ve noticed it on videos of the A45 as well. If they aren’t going to do it properly then don’t bother. Give me a manual every day of the week, twice on Sunday.
I'm so sick of 2.0T taking over everything. They all have the same hollow DSG fart sound. I would have loved to see Lotus use a more exotic poweplant like the Audi 5 cylinder from the RS3. 400hp with a wonderful DCT, I bet the take rate would have been quite high.
Considering the v6 has the better sound and this I4 sounds quite lack luster id say it needed a bit of excitement in the gears, a crack on upshifts and a lively down shift would've been nice but at this point why wouldn't you just buy a Boxster/Cayman. shame as the looks are much better than the Porsche in my opinion, time will tell if there's a market for these.
It is such a pretty car, shame there isn’t an N/A option otherwise that would have been a serious contender against the Cayman, but for me an N/A engine takes it every time 😊
Not gonna argue re the Cayman as I’ve a 4.0 Boxster and love it, but I didn’t rule out the Emira particularly because of the supercharger on the V6 - it’s a great installation and feels far more N/A in its linear delivery than a typical turbocharger which flattens the power curve too much.
I did enjoy it. Will be doing the same with my car on the weekend. My Emira in China has 400hp and 480hp and it is faster than the V6 and handles better. I suppose 8 gears, more power, lighter it should be faster.

This car isn’t about maximum power. 360hp is perfect for the chassis. The slow shifts are to do with the car having 2 ECUs apparently. One for the engine and one for the gearbox. The delay is caused by the two communicating. Lotus working on a software fix apparently 👍
Nice camera view I usually sit my head on top of the dash! I also like the added bonus of the corner picture, when I tuned in I was really wondering I wonder what some asshole looks like in a helmet!

I was watching closely. The downshift was very lazy. My C8 Corvette downshifts are super fast. In Canada the Emira V6 is just as expensive as a V8 C8. The Emira is the prettier car, but for performance value for money, it's hard to beat the C8 in America.
On the slow downshift, it very much sounds as if the computer is just checking that the human interface knows what it's doing......... and then letting it!! That has to be one of the best combo's - Lotus engineering and AMG engines!!👍
I don't mean to sound arrogant but for me it's either go big or go home. I can't justify paying £70k for a car with the same engine from A Class hatchback. I'd rather get a used Audi R8 V10 for the same money. Love the design of Emira but it needs a proper twin turbo charged V8 like in McLaren or at least supercharged V6 as entry level.
That 2 litre engine to me sounds like its got noise being pumped into the cabin via the speakers. Bet the V6 sounds amazing
V6 is better, but it doesn't rev high enough, but then I'm in a 981 S with a flat 6
Have I4 on order....thanks for that very honest review...I believe once the dct software is updated and adding a bit more boost, she will be a proper weapon at 100k US.
My cousin has a A45 AMG. that engine is the real deal
And drive a lotus without a warranty?
Be careful about adding boost to the mid engined i4 as cooling may become an issue
@@adrianbennett3761 it's confirmed that all US I4 will have 400hp and updated DCT calibration....aftermarket tuning may not be necessary after all. 😅

True. Many nightmare stories from owners and the i4 won’t be released now after the freeze until June 2025. That makes it officially a 4 year wait.
