I have visited all of Canada, and Ottawa was the cleanest and most beautiful. Wonderful city, the pearl of Canada together with Quebec City. Will remain forever in my heart. Greetings from Rome.
Great video! I’m an Ottawa resident. You hit on some of the great things we have to offer. Just one note, The Museum of History is the name of the formerly known Museum of Civilization. Fantastic museum! There are even more great museums beyond the Bytown (By, as in Colonel By - not Bay) such as the museum of Science & Tech, the Agricultural museum, and the Aviation Museum to name a few. Next time, check out the Diefenbunker. It‘s a former nuclear war bunker with everything that one needed at the time it was meant for during the Cold War. Laurier house, trip around the Governor General‘s place and a car ride around Rockland would also be on any tourism’s today do list. Next time you are here, I’d love to show you around Wolter family!
The Canadians, amongs others played a huge role during the liberation of the Netherlands during WWII. Two of the Canadian War Cemeteries (Holten & Groesbeek) are still official Canadian territory.
I have been so down because of the pandemic but seeing this video about my home perked me up! I know this was filmed a while back.. Ottawa is over a million now! You pretty much touched on everything I would suggest to a tourist. The National Gallery is probably my #1. Yes we don’t have a Picasso from Canada but we have many amazing artists!
As an Ottawa resident for 3 decades now I’d say you did well to hit the high points. And your American accent is fun! Time for an update visit. We’ve got great festivals in the summer and the new development at Landsdowne, the vibrant Glebe neighborhood along Bank Street and the quirky, fun neighborhood of Hintonburg/Westboro or New Edinburgh. Cheers!
Hi there! Ottawian here! ( I know, I know made up word but I think it sound convincing ;))) just a couple interesting extra things to add about Ottawa. You mentioned you can skate on the canal but didn't mentioned that it is THE largest naturally frozen skating rink in the world :). And we are also know as the shawarma capital of the world, lol. So if you come here, before you have your beaver tail, enjoy a delicious shawarma first! Thanks for vid!
We should have gone to Ottawa this Monday, but due to the current situation we had to postpone it. Thank you for this video, gives us a little bit of Ottawa to dream about :).
Great video! I used to live right on York St in the ByWard Market and it was such a great time during my uni days! Loved the area and pretty much didn't have to leave the bubble of downtown for anything lol!
Finaly my city! Btw thank you to mention the Museums i work for both the war and history theyre really great if you think youre gonna do alot of Museums take the museum pass it will save you a significant amount of money!
Lol nice to finally being in the limelight, even if it is for a moment before we are forgotten again as "the in between spot" between Toronto and Montreal :( . And we are not boring!😄
Just a heads up, the centre block of Parliament (the old and best part behind Mark), is currently closed for at least 10 years for much needed renovations. It's really cool, but sadly it's closed. However another part of the complex now houses parliament and is a modern chamber with exterior walls of a courtyard on the sides. There's a giant glass roof. It's a cool replacement. Cheers from Vancouver Island, BC.
I might have mentioned the changing of the guard that runs during the summer at parliament hill since it is the second most visited attraction in Canada. I think Rideau hall and the tulip festival would have also been worth mentioning.
Ah my home town. You'll have to come back, a lot has changed here since 2014, for the better! I used to work in that beautiful building, now the entirety of Parliament Hill is construction zone and cornered off. Though, Parliament's Centre Block is closed for renovations and rehabilitation for the next 10+ years. But the temporary buildings (House of Commons is in West Block - the parliamentary building to the left of you, and the Senate is in the old train station - across from the Chateau Laurier), are both worth a visit! I love to hate Ottawa, but it’s not too bad for place with 1.4 million (metro). It has its perks, it’s clean, has a lot of green space, nature, and festivals. Food and shopping have gotten much better over the years! The downtown core has undergone major street scaping and rehabilitation, much nicer. A lot of what is great about Ottawa is more found its in smaller neighborhoods, rather than the more touristy areas (like the Byward Market). Hope you come again! I will have many suggestions. The Summer and Fall are the best times to visit.
Philippe Chartrand hello! I am highly debating moving to Ottawa. Just wondering if you had any suggestions on areas that you recommend to look at moving into.
I am from Canada (British Columbia), and I am decently well-travelled for only being 24 years old (I've been to 28 countries and have lived in 3), but I have never been to Ottawa, my own nation's capital! And I have never eaten (or even seen) a beaver tail.
I lived there for over 5 years & left in 1990 (centre town)... don’t really remember a ‘little Italy’ ..maybe it was too small back then for me to remember. - enjoyed the video thou 😊
Rideau Canal is pronounced ree doe.. easiest way to explain it lol but you did pretty good ;) you should come check out the rideau canal in the winter when they do the ice sculptues amazing ;) and you can skate on it and they sell beavertails there too haha great video!
Lots of good things but you're definitely missing out on some major food groups: beer and shawarma! Both are booming here, especially the craft beer in this pandemic! Also - it's called "Byward" and not "Bayward". :)
It's Byward Market, eh? Pronounced 'Bye-Ward'. Named for Col John By, who built the Rideau Canal which connects Ottawa w/ Kingston Ontario, at Lake Ontario. The National Capital of Canada was originally in Kingston, but that city's proximity to the USA (you can see the USA from there) was un-nerving for Canadians b/c of the invasions of Canada from the US during the War of 1812. So after Canada became independent of the UK in 1867, they moved the capital to Ottawa. The Rideau Canal was built w/the intent of improving trade and most importantly soldiers in case the US invaded again.
Just so everyone knows the Canadian Museum of Civilization is now called the Canadian Museum of History, still the same rad museum though. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Museum_of_History
Canada stole beavertails from Hungarians. The owner of beavertails had a Hungarian relative and he likely grew up with “Langos” which is Hungarian fried bread aka beavertails. Langos is a Hungarian street food where in Hungary it’s not I’d say a sweet snack but in Canada, Canadians put sugar ingredients on it. Also beavertails are way over priced, almost $10 CAD? Bro I can get them for free in the kitchen.
I applaud your travel videos during the Kung Flu lockdown. It reminds me that this nonsense will end. But . . . . . . I do not watch your 3 hour live feeds. You are not the only channel that has decided I have nothing better to do than spend half a day with you. They are mistaken. You are mistaken. Six minutes I can give you; 3 hours is not gonna happen. I am busy.
I have visited all of Canada, and Ottawa was the cleanest and most beautiful. Wonderful city, the pearl of Canada together with Quebec City. Will remain forever in my heart. Greetings from Rome.
Would love to visit Canada someday. So much nature. And Poutine looks really interesting, should try that stuff as well :D
Ottawa has the best shawarma too.
Yummm! Love shawarma!

Wendy W-B museums are free on thursday too after 5 pm I believe (not sure about the Diefenbunker)
It’s also the Byward Market and not Bayward. May seem confusing but it is BYward

If you are there on Canada Day, July 1, they have fantastic fireworks and a concert in front of the Parliament,
I believe it's cancel this year. :(
Baby Liam running in the grass is the best thing I'll see today.

Great videos! Hello to the family from New Brunswick🇨🇦 :)
Wow an oldie but a goldie
That was really good. Makes me want make a trip of Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec
If you can say “Chateau” you can say “Rideau” as well. It won’t sound like a French speaker but most “eau” end in “o” sound
Should be especially easy given the PMs name.
Bordeaux
Wooo!! Loving the Canada love ❤️ 🇨🇦
