Yorkshire Dales Cycling - Stunning Circular Route

- A dry forecast and a whole day free meant thoughts turning to the Yorkshire Dales. This is a great little loop of about 43 miles, starting from the village of Gargrave and taking in some classic quiet lanes and some of the stunning views on offer in this part of the country. It really is a cycling paradise (if you don't mind a few hills!).
Felt like the perfect distance for a cold winter day ride but this would be a stunning route any time of the year.
Happy cycling folks!
Love the Yorkshire dales. I've only been hiking before, yet this made me want do some cycling there..
I'm biased being a Yorkshireman but it's a really special place and I think hard to beat. Was hiking round there for years before I ever got out there on a bike. If you get the chance I'd definitely recommend some cycling there. Thanks for the comment. 🙂
Anyone that can get out and ride those hills... had better never complain about being poor.
Add the fact that you so eloquently share your travels, spreads that wealth.
Thank you.

Thanks, Frank. It's hard not to want to share how stunning the Pennines and Yorkshire Dales are. Happy cycling!
Smashing ride, great value-for-money & you can't go wrong with that country. Littondale is an absolute gem.
My aging GoPro doesn't do it justice. Definitely a cycling gem.
Absolutely stunning ride. Thanks for sharing 👍👍😊😊
Thanks, Paul. Really hard to beat the Dales! 🙂
I first rode that route aged 14. I'm 75 now and when I get back to Yorkshire I still manage to get over the top (usually from Stainforth and sometimes include Brootes Lane for a dose of extra suffering). One of my all time favourite areas. But, I have to ask you, what is that music track? It fits beautifully with the scenery.
Thanks for the comment, David. It's such a stunning area to be out on a bike, isn't it? The music track is from the Soundstripe library and it's an artist called 'Mommy Issues' (I think)! Happy cycling!
Cracking video, thanks for sharing 👍🏽
I rode those exact same roads on two different rides on my first ever trip to the Yorkshire Dales recently. Stunnigly beautiful place! ❤ The hills are hard to say the least, and any headwinds up on top are brutal!, but I loved every minute of my time spent up there and it's a place I definitely want to go back to for my riding.
Yes, nowhere to hide from the headwinds up there on the tops (but still kind of worth it!). Sounds like you had a great trip and I really don't blame you for wanting to get back to the Dales and do some more cycling. Thanks for the comment and happy cycling!
I will be in Gargrave in June. This looks like a beautiful ride!
Stunning views, brilliant video.
Cheers mate another cracking ride! Some stunning views 👍
Always feels like a win when you get these conditions in the winter months. Cheers, Pat. Happy cycling!
Coming from Skipton this is so great to watch you cycling around my old stamping ground.
Thanks, Jay. It's a lovely part of the world. First time starting a ride from Gargrave but I doubt it will be the last!
Lovely video. I've actually never gone down Halton Gill....always up. That's a climb! There is a lovely but tough climb you just missed when you turn off the valley rd after the ride along the river. As you turn right you can go up by side of whst used to be the Woolpack in tv series Emmerdale. That's a beauty. Quite steep but lovely views
.
Thanks, Mark. I'm about 50/50 on rides climbing and descending Halton Gill but you're right it's quite the climb the other way. Thanks for the heads up on the other route. Hard to go wrong up that way if you don't mind hills!
@onemorecyclist I've just remembered the pub is called the Falcon and the climb is right by side of it in Arnclife

That climb is Brootes Lane, although it should be called Brutal Lane! 😂
Very steep, long and once over the top, on the day I rode it, the headwind pretty much brought me to a standstill! 😮
Absolutely stunning place to ride a bike though ❤
Hi Thanks for sharing video. I'm in Ingleton this weekend and looking for hilly routes on road bike. Do you know any good routes from ingleton? Failing that im happy to drive short distance to a route yo can recommend? Im looking to do a 40-70 mile loop. any help will be appreciated. Are you on strava?
Thanks for the comment, John. Loads of options from Ingleton. Reading your comment this route sprung to mind (hope the link works and I have a video of this on my channel called '50 miles and heatstroke', or something to that effect) - www.komoot.com/tour/1294103657?share_token=aG1mHN9k58P1GBZMTpH2lXoT39hO8Tr5PYz0j8v9vFYsQ7Akg2&ref=wtd Might be low 60s for mileage starting in Ingleton. Another great option would be head up past Ribblehead to Hawes and then loop back round via Garsdale, Dent and Deepdale - both options are hilly with spectacular views from the tops. Enjoy! Yes I'm on Strava and Komoot (link on the channel) but post fairly infrequently - never really got the bug for using the app 🙂
Did you post this route on RwGPS or Strava by any chance? Thanks.
Was this one if I remember right - www.komoot.com/tour/1408458726
Looks lovely and not too far away, care to share the route? I have a free Thursday!
Hi James. I've just set the route on Komoot to public so you can grab the GPX from there I think. Komoot says 2550ft ascent but it was nearer 3,300ft on the day. It's a lovely ride, enjoy!
@@onemorecyclist Messaged you on Instagram - Cheers
@@onemorecyclist brutal climbs haha. Thanks for the inspiration. Tail wind from Halton Gill saved my bacon
Much kudos, James! I bet that was a keen headwind in places. Yeah, some punchy climbs but if you get to Halton Gill in one piece it's pretty much in the bag! :)
Hi is there a way i can view the root like strava im not on komoot im over wt end of the month plan doing a few rides that area looking for good routes
Hi John. I'm not a very good Strava user so would struggle to point you to another place to get the route, sorry. Komoot is great and free to set up I believe (which means you can grab any public routes' GPX files, as far as I'm aware).
Can you link the route file?

@@onemorecyclist thank you!
It's hard to beat Yorkshire.
It really is!
Can i get a gpx?
Ah ignore that it's further down in the comments 😂 I live just outside of Ilkley so can get to it pretty easy
Yes, not too far from your neck of the woods. 👍
