As an alarm tech that's been in the field for 10 years, I can tell you it's a rewarding and fun experience. I had no experience and learned as I went. You get to go to many types of places, you name it, I've been there. Company truck is great, uniforms are a plus and the company I work for is growing like crazy. We're so busy, we can get OT anytime we want

Hey Rudy I just started my career as a fire alarm technician here in Colorado, it’s very easy work compared to other blue collar jobs I’ve in the past. I’m just taking it day by day. Glad to hear you like it brotha! Any words of advice?

I actually got a job as a Fire Alarm Technician with 0 experience because i worked with someone who knew someone and his company was growing but there is so little supply of CFAA technicians he basically coereced me into the job and paid me 20 starting. I have no complaints though lol besides the long and far drives in traffic.

If you're thinking of becoming a fire tech, I recommend testing for your NICET certifications as soon as you're able. They will help you make more money and work in areas that require the cert.

If your into tech and electronics but not very interested in doing the simple, repetitive work involved in ethernet/fiber optic installation or the rougher, more fabrication-like work of an electrician than Fire Alarm is perfect for you!

I have enter the security, video and fire alarm market in 1986. 2020, covid 19 and no computer chips caused the decline. Also, Simplesafe and Ring had a big impact on the security system market. A.I will have a big impact on video Machines and the drought ( im located in California) will cause fire sprinkler inspections expensive for the property owner(s).

In many states you need certification. The states that pay well you need an electrical license which takes the equivalent of a bachelors degree. And many licenses Beyond that. You can make 6 figures in your first 5-6 years. Without OT or sales/ commission.

It's the same in Australia and NZ; you must be certified to work as a security installer. In Australia, the certification is called a Cert III in Security Equipment, and employees learn the skills over 4 years working with a qualified installer, then they sit TAFE tests to ensure they understand everything before being awarded the Cert III.

I really want to get my foot in the door with this profession. I now have to electrical trade school experience. But I still can’t even get an entry level job. Many of the jobs here in Massachusetts are asking for a fire license, etc. But how would I get experience if no one will give me a chance??

The dip is due to Government destroying peoples livelihood. Scared some, forced some to retire, and they killed others that got Viral pneumonia. Very sad. Pay rose due to this since they needed employees. The pay was always below 20 to start, even with experience before 20. It is good work, low skill but does take some attention to detail.
