Thank you, Rabbi Breitowitz, for this excellent shiur. As the Who said, "New boss, same as the old boss." If the giving of the Torah at Mt. Sinai might be said to be the ultimate social reform, might Korach be said to be the first usurper? Baruch Hashem from NC, USA.
Rabbi thank you. I have a question about the Cohanim. They were originally the first born. I learned they will return to the Cohanut in the times of Mashiach.
Fascinating, Kain being the innovator. On the other hand, he only did as he was told, 'working the ground', whereas Hevel 'delegated' his work to the flock that would eat and tend to its own needs, which freed up time for Torah learning. Hence, he's the ancestor of the Avot, who all followed in his footsteps.
How would you juxtaposition this latter viewpoint, developed by Yoram Hazony in his book The Philosophy of Hebrew Scripture, with the former, according to which the concept of Korban defines 'innovation'?
One could pursue this further, and claim that in accordance to the Rambam Moreh Nevuchim), Jews were only given Korbanot to compensate the fact that the idolatrous nations also had them?
Mystically, isn't the IDEAL to love The Creator WITHOUT suffering and death!?
@jakobw135 He wants us to fear him, too. A proof of this is the revelation of God at Mt. Sinai.
@@GeorgeBrooks22 The FEAR you are talking about is concerning only ABSENCE, or this physical world. We should have a healthy fear of nature, in order to come closer to his PRESENCE!
Cain was associated with PHYSICALITY, while his brother Hevel was linked with BREATH or SPIRITUALITY!
Every Jew CAN actually giive NEW & MEANINGFUL insights into the Torah - all in the CONTEXT of what the sages have already revealed!
Blaming Moshe Ranbeinu for the conclusion of the spies is unjustified of course and even absurd, because each of them had free choice to say what they wanted.
Korach's erroneous conclusion that we don't need leaders and we're all the same is patently false!
Nevertheless he is correct that we are all holy, and therefore, deserve the normal attention given to someone in meaningful conversation. That is missing in our communities, even today, and that's what we have to pay attention to.
@@GeorgeBrooks22 The original and the very - idea of spying out the land of Israel was Moses's. And there was nothing wrong with that, per se.
However, the ERRONEOUS conclusions and SLANDER was the spies'.
@@GeorgeBrooks22 I DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING that justified UA-cam to remove my comment!!!
Excellent lecture - thank you Rabbi Breitowitz.
