    At least they don't scream like parrots...

      I totally agree, I have a friend with a macaw and as soon as you walk out of the room the bird starts screaming. It's brutal.

      I love the racket parrots make. But, I have neighbors that live on the level below mine, so I am considering a more quiet bird. Doing the necessary research.

    Weird, my dove only makes sounds like that (not nonstop like him) when she's distressed. For example when a large bird flies by her window or if she isn't feeling well she'll whine.

      He has calmed down so much after raising a set of young. I think he just wanted to be a father. I move my doves outside in the summer and he is happy as can be now. Thanks for the comment and have a great weekend.

    I've never had a dove make that sound. Of course I also don't poke them with sticks or stick a phone in their faces.

      Stay away... They are better without you specially that light and dirty area... They make nests on a tree, live on a tree,sleep on a tree... They are very timid birds please do not torture them

  • @troisun

    That whining is more on the lines of desperately trying to find it's flock because there in a new area where they don't recognize anything so they are scared so it better to let them adjust to their new surroundings before handling them. I have 16 Ringneck doves and two of them are sleeping on me at this moment January 26,2018 5:55pm. I'm marking it lol. One is about 3 weeks old and the other just turned 2 months today. They are very vocal and social birds mine greet me very time I walk in the bird room. I just wish my 9 other birds would come greet me lol oh well .

    one of my birds did that after flying just short little hops. same thing hoping around and not looking distressed, but making that noise especially after flying. she passed away at 3 years old (young), we figure she had some sort of a lung or heart condition. i would discourage flying, i hope yours is ok

    I have a morning dove I’m trying to heal. He or she, was knocked down in a storm, and the dog got it. I rescued it, but not before she lost all her tail feathers. My kid yelled at me the dog had a bird, and this was late at night. I quickly saved the dog, then washed it, put tumeric in all the scrapes and any cuts. Luckily no major punctures, but the toll on this juvenile dove’s feathers was bad. It seems better, and I can get it to actively drink water, but food is the issue. I have chickens so I have the food from them.

    My ringneck has never made this noise before. I don't know her actual sex, but she coos, laughs, and makes a cough/barking noise when she's angry. Never a baby cry though.

    HI Dave. I see your video was uploaded over a year ago. I have almost 20 years experience with doves. I had one that cried but once I got her a mate she cooed and laughed. Your dove is definitely distressed. How is your bird doing now?

    • @emmabeekman5788

    • @DaveSherva
      @DaveSherva  3 роки тому +1

      He's scared. That's his defense is to slap his wings at a threat. They don't bite like a parakeet or lovebird would.

    Is it true that they need a mate? We recently bought a female and it’s seems like all she does is coo and squawk

    • @DaveSherva
      @DaveSherva  3 роки тому +1

      They certainly like to have a companion. My males would not shut up until I got a female. The issue with a pair is they don't stop breeding and you end up with a lot of birds that can be difficult to get rid of. I had good luck keeping two females together. They seems more content and quiet.

    I rescued a young dove after it was attacked by dogs. She had cuts and no feathers on One Wing or tail. She allowed me to bathe her and put medication on her wounds. Her legs were strong. I play these videos on UA-cam and now she's talkin finally. I live in Arkansas in the winter is really mild right now but I don't know if she should be let go until spring. I have a 20-foot ceiling Log Cabin that she flies loose. Her strength is very good now and all her feathers are back. She'll sit next to me to watch UA-cam. I wish I knew if it was okay to let her go this time of year. I just want the best for her. Thank you for any suggestions that you can help me with.

    What would you say is an ideal cage size for 1 ring neck?

    • @DaveSherva
      @DaveSherva  6 років тому +1

      Bigger the better. This one is 3 by 3 by 3 ft. I keep my doves in a outdoor enclosure during the summer. You might see it in my other videos. Make sure you always give your dove exercise and time out of the cage.

    Hi Dave, four months ago, I got 3 rescued ringneck doves (4-7 yrs old). Now I have 8 in total after two sets of births. How do you control the population? I love them so much, but I am forced to take their eggs out to control the birth rate. I feel so sorry for them...

    • @DaveSherva
      @DaveSherva  6 років тому +1

      I ran into the same problem. I was tossing the eggs but felt bad when the parents were looking for them. I bought some small wooden eggs at the craft store and replaced the real ones with wooden ones but they just laid more. If you separate the male he we cry and coo all day long and drive you nuts. I kept mine outside for 7-8 months and let them breed but I don't want more then two in the house because of the dander they produce is bad for your lungs. I think tossing the eggs is the only solution.

      Dave Sherva 7-8 month outside in MN? I am in MA. When the temp drops to 50 degree, I move them inside the basement with a grow light. What do you think the lowest degree they can sustain?

    • @DaveSherva
      @DaveSherva  6 років тому

      I brought mine inside in late October when the temps dipped below the 50 F mark as well. I'm with you and think the 50 F is about max.

    • @hobbyfarmer1452
      @hobbyfarmer1452 6 років тому

      Dave Sherva so you only bring 2 inside and let the rest outside? Aren’t they going to die for sure over the winter?

    • @DaveSherva
      @DaveSherva  6 років тому

      @@hobbyfarmer1452 I bring all the doves inside for the winter. Only my pigeons stay out the winter.
