The MV is a bit confusing but here's an attempt at an explanation lol.
The song is about the girls not giving up their hearts too easily but also behind those thoughts are deeper thoughts like "i'm worried i'll tire out your patience". The camera head guy view is seeing the girls as various independent and strong female movie characters; similar to how they did in what is love MV. Anyway, even tho they're trying to put on a strong persona, in reality, they're just as dork, confused, and lovestruck. The whole point of them saying 'cheer up', is they're cheering on the guy to keep making the effort as itll be worth it in the end.
Essentially tl;dr girls don't be too easy and guys don't give up so easily either. Good things take time, effort, and patience.
This is just my personal interpretation but there are many others online. What's fun about their MVs is that you can watch them over and over and start dissecting it and realize the meanings behind their songs. Even tho it seems like such a bright and cute song, it's underlying message is actually quite nice.

Hahaha you were confused about the lyrics/meaning of the song the whole time.. But us asians can easily relate to this... Where I'm from Japan/Philippines and in this case I guess even in Korea.. Men usually court women before they become a thing or go on a date and it's usually like this... It's just cultural differences when it comes to dating. We need to understand that Twice is Asian after all and dating standards are different than in Western culture. Girls are expected to be timid and not give in right away. That's the struggle the message of the song is trying to convey.

You need to understand that there is a difference in culture, the world is much bigger than the West, traditional East Asian thinking about boy-girl relationships is not the same as in the West. Thinking that the lyrics is weird or wrong shows how myopic people are. Anyway, just because a part of the MV is high school does not mean that the lyrics is for high school kids, so they do not need to wait for years to be men :-)
I totally get that. Which is why I think it's so fun to watch other people react to the same song. We all interpret the same song differently depending how we were raised or where we are from. And I never said the lyrics were "weird" I said I was confused by them.

Thank you for reacting to TWICE's songs. They're my Favourite and I can't tell you how much I stan them. This Song is ONE of my favorites and yeah, the video and the lyrics seem to be confusing at first, but here's what it is(Based on what I understood)
They're portraying different characters to show how indivually different Women can be, different personalities through different characters ,but no matter how strong they are, they still have a Weak side that is LOVE.
Not exactly love but the aftermath of it.
They want it too , but they want to make sure that they really receive love and that it is NOT just a two-day trip to Loveland. Thatswhy they're kind of testing the boy as well as themselves, so as to make sure they don't get broken afterwards. They're kinda scared.
Truth is, they themselves don't know they're ready for it or not.
The lyrics is actually a little deep and somewhat real. It says all the promises and things someone says before having an actual feeling of Love , (He says I take his Breath away, I make his heart race etc.) and as for the chorus, They want to experience love too, but they speak to themselves, 'A girl shouldn't give her heart away so easily' ,because of the fear of the aftermath of Love and the impact she'll carry in her heart.
For the final part 'Gotta see you love me like a real man' , is because they hope he's someone who genuinely wants her, someone with dreams and vision , someone whom they can rely upon highs and lows. Like a MAN who has the courage to accept her no matter what life brings.
I love the bridge part where Mina sings 'I like you, but I'm afraid I might hurt you, But I hope you understand, I'm a girl after all'. You see, she just wants to make sure that it will be worth the wait, worth the time and once and for all. Because good things take time, effort and patience .
In short , this video is about a girl who has been someone's Crush/Love, but is afraid that she might hurt herself and the Boy due to her lack of experience in true love.

Like other people mentioned, this is the song that really exploded Twice's popularity in Korea. Sana's "Shy Shy Shy" became a meme onto itself that is still relevant to this day. :p
But yeah, it's not really my favourite either. For one, the lyrics are bit... weird at best and problematic at worst (be a Real man... 😑).
Fortunately, they came back with TT after this song, and that just put fuel to the popularity, plus it was a lot better liked by international fans.😁
And after TT they came back with Knock Knock, which is one of my favourites of theirs (but it's not That popular otherwise). If you plan on doing All the TWICE title tracks, I really look forward to hearing what you think about Knock Knock. 😄
