Your garden is lovely, not nearly as 'messy' as you fear. Your plant choices are admirable and the slightly more natural look gives it a relaxed charm.
The lettuce looks like dandelion to me. My chickens, my "ladies" would go crazy for it. Very nice plant growth, healthy, strong, and I'd guess very tasty.
It's SO good, and it self seed and is so easy to grow. And it looks pretty in my landscape. It's just such a great plant and I bet chickens would love it but it wouldn't last very long around them!
I let my Alliums dry all the way out then spray painted the globes different colors and the stems clear protectant spray to keep that natural effect. Beautiful focal point in my office.
Sedum is crazy hardy. I have one that’s survived many winters in a plastic pot and he’s still going. They’re also super easy to propagate. We had a small piece that we just put in the ground to root and we accidentally forgot about it. But its still going strong.
Beautiful gardens. Thanks for posting this. I’m a N. J. native, but I’ve been her for 17 years. I’ve had some success with certain plants, but others don’t want to live! Glad you covered our zone 8.
You're so lucky to live in such a warm climate! We get really hard frost every year, and so many plants perish, unless you dig them up in the fall and store in a cellar during the winter. Some thrive though, alliums for example, and the way you use chives was very inspiring! Thanks for the lovely video!
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video and for posting all the helpful links! I am in zone 8 as well and I found this extremely helpful in planning to start a pollinator garden.
Bonus lizard at the end! This was wonderful. Thank you for taking the time. You have me a lot of inspiration for where I am in zone 8b in the suburbs of Seattle.
That 3rd one, after the lettuce sandy, those are Achillea AKA yarrow (named after Achilles of mythology, who was said to have carried them into battle as a staunchwort), you have a few different varieties from the look at those shades and YES, they are hearty!
Love your garden. What a great variety of plants. Zone 6 here. Need to check out a few that you showed. I plant Zinnias and Sunflowers every year, love them, so many different kinds. Found an almost black sunflower this year, saved the seeds. Thank you.
I’m zone 8b too! Thank you for these tips😃 I have abutillion and it’s lovely! I also grow luffa, I have lots of seeds if you want any. My kids and students love it 😊
I loved your garden tour! I've been looking for perennials that would grow like that in Pensacola, FL zone 8. You must have good soil as mine is all sand, but I'm encouraged to try and find some of these varieties and help my gardens flourish also! Thank you!!
Some areas I have very bad soil but other places is pretty decent. You can start building up your soil apparently by mulching with wood chips and after a couple years of those breaking down you'll have gorgeous soil!
Rescuing plants that need attention Aaron you have it growing that’s pretty amazing that you got for a dollar you should be rewarded karmically somehow right
Love your video… all plants are my fav and in my garden planted last season I can’t wait to see them comeback and watching your video give more hope! Your lime light hydrangeas are soo beautiful!!
OK you could do a video on how lazy gardeners and busy people like a garden I just love you’re so honest and you’re like oh it’s so embarrassing I’m like yes that’s a People want hello totally cool I think you should get tons of thumbs up you should have more people liking this video I watch a guy that’s like OK if you’re gonna use like five different things in your soil and a pH meter and then I know I’m ranting but you know it’s like honestly I really try to get my rosemary plant I bought the pH meter I got the vermiculite or whatever that other stuff that he said in and seriously every time he dies. Ha ha lol Best gardening video of the year
Haha! Well it's true, if I could all I would do is garden but I have a zillion things other than garden I have to do, so my garden plants have to pretty much take care of themselves!
Just watched and loved it! Glad it came up in my feed. Thank you for sharing-learned some new varieties and will definitely look into lettuce sandy (I first thought it was a weed fr the first picture. I hope you continue to upload more gardening-related content
Really beautiful plants, I have an abutalon in my front garden and it definitely looks better in winter/cool January as you mentioned 😊 I was worried for it in our Florida heat.
I don't think many of them will, maybe smaller varieties of lantana I just edited the newer version of this and should have it up in a few days so stay tuned!
Hi, What are the little sunflowers seen in the background at frame 9:00? Are they perennial? They're beautiful. I'm surprised you forgot to mention them. Thank you.
Are all of the plants featured in this video planted in the sun or are some of them in shade or partial shade? I am in the same zone, but I have a lot of trees in my backyard and I’m always looking for pretty things to fill the shady places And dappled sun areas.
Yes almost all like A LOT of sun, BUT, I have learned the hard way that the Hot Lave Blooming Maple likes some shade. Also, the lettuce would probably do fine with a half day of shade.
I love her strategy, She's like, "well, I just made it work". Good job woman :D
haha thank you!
I LOVE YOUR GARDEN & how you & your son enjoy it together, thanks for blessing us by sharing this!!!
Haha the older he gets the less fun the garden is but I can still find ways to trick him into going outside with me lol. Bubbles. Lots of bubbles!

Thanks for the real-life garden tour and information. Much more useful to me than grand gardens with more gardeners than me, myself & I!
I agree, although I'm a sucker for a fancy garden. This is Rachel, just commenting from my other channel.
I'm starting to post shorts, I miss sharing my garden ideas! What are you growing this summer???
Beautiful Upload friend. keep it up. Thank you for sharing this to us. Greetings from Korea
I love dianthus! I’m in zone 5b and they come back beautifully every year.
the geranium is the cranesbill type. some mums die in frost. leeks have bulbs. move when the tops die
I let my Alliums dry all the way out then spray painted the globes different colors and the stems clear protectant spray to keep that natural effect. Beautiful focal point in my office.
That's a great idea!

I have found the same thing to be true! Love sedums!!!
Gardening and watercolor are also my passions. Glad I caught this video! I am working to increase my sedums and want to add them to every bouquet!
Beautiful gardens. Thanks for posting this. I’m a N. J. native, but I’ve been her for 17 years. I’ve had some success with certain plants, but others don’t want to live! Glad you covered our zone 8.
I totally enjoyed this video!! Thank you!! You uploaded this 2 years ago but your recommendations are equally valid - anytime of the year!!
I'm so glad you liked it - I just edited the newer version of this and should have it up in a few days so stay tuned!

Thank you! But I can't grow peonies, hollyhocks, dahlias and other cool loving plants like you probably can. It's a trade off.
I was looking for other zone 8 gardeners and found your post. Nice yard. I like your style.
Thank you!
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video and for posting all the helpful links! I am in zone 8 as well and I found this extremely helpful in planning to start a pollinator garden.
I'm so glad it was helpful! Maybe I'll post some more videos as it seems like this video has been getting some traction!
Thanks for the tour of your garden. You have some very interesting plants.
Thanks for visiting!
that lily is fabulous
They get more spectacular every year!
Thank you! Finding information on zone 8 is tough!
Never heard of Crespedia before. I think I might try it in the future. I agree with you mums are good perennials.
Bonus lizard at the end! This was wonderful. Thank you for taking the time. You have me a lot of inspiration for where I am in zone 8b in the suburbs of Seattle.

I love the scented Dianthus.

Black sunflower? Cool! Love zinnias and sunflowers!
Are all these plants good for zone 9 with cold winters and over 106 degree summers?
I’m zone 8b too! Thank you for these tips😃 I have abutillion and it’s lovely!
I also grow luffa, I have lots of seeds if you want any. My kids and students love it 😊

Have you tried lavender?

you might check out David The Good's channel for florida soil building.

Thank you so much 😊
Love your video… all plants are my fav and in my garden planted last season I can’t wait to see them comeback and watching your video give more hope! Your lime light hydrangeas are soo beautiful!!
Thank you so much! Another amazing plant that has been doing beautifully for me in the last year is hot lips Salvia!
Keep the videos coming as there aren’t many garden videos for humid zones. I live in Qld, Australia on the sub tropical Sunshine Coast.
I might just do that! I kind of stopped posting here, but maybe I'll restart this next gardening season!

Thank you Aisha! I'm putting together a video now about easy to grow edible plants!
Really beautiful plants, I have an abutalon in my front garden and it definitely looks better in winter/cool January as you mentioned 😊 I was worried for it in our Florida heat.
Mine finally died, turns out it needs more shade waaaaaaaaaaah
would most of these grow in a hanging basket as well?
I don't think many of them will, maybe smaller varieties of lantana I just edited the newer version of this and should have it up in a few days so stay tuned!
Can you update your flower garden please?
Yes I definitely need to do an update!!!
Great information. I’m going to plant some of them. What state do you live in?
SC :)
That lettuce! I watched a couple of times but couldn’t quite catch the name. Would you mind spelling it out? Thanks! Love your garden philosophy 😃
It's lettuce sandy! Some is still growing in my patio cracks. So amazing
@@Garden4Parker wow, thanks! Will try to get a hold of some.
Very great video. I am moving to north Macon area and this was very helpful. I saw some sunflowers close to the ground near the end. What were they?
Hi,
What are the little sunflowers seen in the background at frame 9:00? Are they perennial? They're beautiful. I'm surprised you forgot to mention them.
Thank you.
Hi, this is me answering from my other channel - they are dwarf sunflowers - Suntastic I believe. They were a lot of fun!
yup suntastic
Where are you in zone 8 where you don’t get a hard freeze every year? I’m in 8b and deep freezes at least 10 times a year.
We normally do get deep freezes but haven't for a few years. Columbia South Carolina
Which direction does your garden face? West? East?
It faces different directions, but mostly east and west

@@rachelparkervarner that’s super helpful! Thank you for the fast reply!
Do you have many slugs there?
So many! I put out slug bait and it helps a lot
Which Pierrenials like soggy roots?
I have no idea
If you want to keep the dianthus, you need to divide them.
Good to know!
WHAT is the name of your watercoloring channel, please??
youtube.com/@rachelsstudiodotcom I just edited the newer version of this video btw and should have it up in a few days so stay tuned!
