      do you think xavi simons would be a valuable addition to this team? They already have pedri,gavi,fermin,dejong and gundogan in midfield (would he work as a left winger?) and what about nico williams! do you think we should keep cancelo and joao felix or let them leave? should we go for a new center back to replace christensen? could amadou onana be a good choice if we dont get kimmich?

      1st and foremost, It has been said many times that the current barca does not have the required players to have this style, so I do think tackling what signing could make this better would be great not just for information but also in getting your amazin content to more ppl.
      2nd, obviously, Flick doesn't make players magically stronger, but it has already been reported that he is planning on invloving more physical training. With that said, I do think the quick and narrow transitional periods when going back from attack to defense should be helped by that as overall, stronger players should be better suited to stop counter attacks (correct me if i'm wrong).
      Lastly, Xavi's in-game management has been widely critiqued. I dont remember on you mentioning that in your twitter thread but if you did, do you think that will be an issue for Flick? Do you see the public realizing the similarity and have the same issues or do you see that to be only up to the circumstances.

    As a Bayern fan, I need to add some points about Flick's tenure here without being influenced on his Germany stint. Because as we can see Nagelsmann is also doing not well with the squad.
    - It's a lie that Flick is only a man-manager and not a tactician. He introduced us direct football with a mix of Pep's three at the back in possession.
    - His style of football is based on Cruyff ideology but with a more German approach. So technically you will still have another coach highly influenced by Cruyff school of football. Flick has always said that he was influenced by van Gaal and Cruyff
    - Neuer said that the football we played under Flick was Pep-like.
    - Talking about man-manager, for him is very important to build a good relationship with the player. There were players at Bayern who barely played and were on the bench, and they never said a bad word about Flick or complained about playing time. Which for a toxic club like Bayern is very, very rare to see because players always complain about games.
    - Flick has very high intensity training methods which may cause fatigue for players but they will improve massively. This can only work if the team has strong squad depth.
    - It's also a lie that Flick doesn't know how to adjust, yes he can be stubborn at times but he can make in-game adjustments that improve the gameplay. In 80% of the time here at Bayern, Flick always turned the game around to his favor with his subs and adjustments

      @jurgengjidia8657 4 місяці тому +16

      Barca have barely any squad depth so we’ll have to see what happens to the players and how the training impacts them. It’s probably why Barca also seriously struggle to beat Bayern due to the difference in physical training

    • @clips7701
      @clips7701 4 місяці тому

      @@jurgengjidia865720/21 Bayern had no depth as well, and still, in my opinion, played really good and attractive football, and could’ve won UCL back to back if it wasn’t for injuries and lack of depth. As long as Barca can find that consistency in their playing style, that’s an upgrade from xavi.

    Is making a separate channel for dedicated Barca content possible? One where you could commit to post match analysis, season reviews and previews, preseason reviews, player and team depth analysis (a pretty much similar format as your older Barca content) while using this one for general football analysis content like your deep dives(which could still include Barca if we’re interesting enough 😅). It’ll be okay if that’s not possible; I just think the English speaking Barca fan base lacks a content creator as astute as you in terms of tactical and player analysis.

    When people talk about Flick, I think it is valuable to talk about his role as assistant to Joachim Löw from 2006-2014. Not only was he part of a team that won the World Cup in 2014, and reached at least the semifinal in every tournament, he was also part of a very significant transformation of the German national team that went from being a bit backward, sterile and overly focused on tactical discipline and physicality to one that openly embraced attacking football for the first time in a long time. Löw's Germany was arguably at its very best with Flick right beside him on the bench.
    Other than that, I think you the video is spot on that Flick will be merely an evolution of Xavi's Barca. But I think that's a good thing!

    • @twentytwo138
      @twentytwo138 4 місяці тому

      Joachim Löw can harness the power and knowledge of the football gods by scratching and fondling his balls then sniffing his fingers. It's a mystical ritual, it has nothing to do with tactics. They don't even train tactics, they just train ball scratching and finger sniffing. Like a rondo drill, 10 players in a circle are scratching their balls, and 2 players in the middle are chasing down to sniff their fingers. Whoever's finger gets sniffed, he goes in the middle.

    Excellent video, I’ve always thought that Xavi to Flick wasn’t as much of a drastic change that the fanbase thinks it is, especially when you look back at the “best” periods of football of each coach. For Xavi, that’s Barca(at times) in 21/22, and Flick at Bayern in 19/20. Going even further, you can see how they suffer in the absence of key profiles for their systems.

  • @atroxozaur
    @atroxozaur 4 місяці тому +47

    Xavi's idea of play on paper, is whole another thing from what we have seen on pitch.
    When you described Xavi's philosophy here, it didn't look anything like that Barca from this season. Like you described a one particular game, or completely different team.
    I don't know if Xavi struggled to get his idea to players or maybe there was some heavy pressure on ballplay, or maybe he just couldn't deal with the pressure, but we did not play vertical football at all this season. Sure there were games when we did execute it really well, like against Betis, but then we always reverted back to mundane passing, which makes me thing if it wasn't a fluke or something. Few things i remember specifically often getting frustrated when we had a counter and players slowed down, or when someone make a good run, only for ball to recycle to centre backs. There was also total lack of movement, where one player moved, but the other stayed, no runs from the deep, no nothing, which kinda doesn't make sense if you want to play more vertical, direct football.
    Also also that might be me, but i feel the pressing was all over the place, if we didn't catch the team high up the pitch in first press, players seemed to not know what to do next. Gavi's loss heavily hinders the press, but the team seemed all out of sync.

    One key aspect where xavi failed miserably but Flick’s bayern was fantastic at is Pressing and counter pressing. Under xavi, I saw barca trying to press high time and time again only to see their defensive lines get obliterated in just a few passes. If Flick can coordinate that aspect alone, he’d have made 70% of the job already!

    I personally am very interested in how it's gonna pan out and do think Flick is a better choice than an unproven Spanish coach or promoting Marquez.
    The first thing I'm feeling good about is the fact that they're doing an overhaul of the coaching and fitness staff, I feel like that was needed for a very long time to try and take this team to the next level and hopefully get the team physically fitter and less injury prone.
    Barca also has quite some profiles that'll already fit perfectly into Flick's style of play(Araujo, Kounde, Cubarsi, Pedri, Gavi, Lewa and Lamine). Players like Balde and Fermin have potential for stepping up to the next level under Flick management and getting some new roles and tasks because of Flick.
    I don't like to look at Flick's stint at Germany as an example of his level because there is a very big difference between coaching club football and international teams. The amount of time spent with the team is very different and makes it way harder to implement such a intense and unique style like Flick's. .

    Few managers come to implement the same things they did . At a new club in a diff league . I think its a bit of a hindsighted view point though reasonably so we can only look at what he has done to know what he can do . But the thing is none of us know what Hansi is actually planning . The media is just using his bayern munich tenure as a reference . You cant come to a team like barca yearning for the job if you havent thought this through . And flick looks like he has done some research concerning being its manager prior to getting the job . Also the team is very different and so are the players . So its only logical to say the least that You can't use the same blue print for every house you build no matter how good it looked , it can always look better .

    Couple that with his lack of tactical response to the other managers changes was a lethal combination that killed our season early

    There are definitely problems at Barcelona - they conceded 44 goals this season compared to 20 last year (that's over double) and many times you're scratching your head wondering if the defense are actually professionals.
    They scored 9 more goals this season despite missing Pedri and Gavi which suggests that unless they contribute to saving goals, they are really not contributing to scoring goals. I don't believe these two players are anything like Xavi and Iniesta.
    Then there's Lewandowski who can easily score 50 goals and scoring crazy things as he's not getting service and falling back to give service to everyone else. It makes no sense - he's the danger. He needs to stay up top to keep the other team honest as he needs a split second to score.

    I think the biggest difference between Flick and Xavi will be in their training styles because they both play very intense football but Barcelona players clearly aren’t physically capable of handling such high intensity because Barca focus more on training with ball instead of without and in the way the game is played today and with the amount of games played too you must be in insane shape.

    The biggest change and most important for me and i think many fans is the mentality change. Xavi never criticized his players and his transfer targets just seemed so odd. Flick has already reversed the decision to resign Roberto, Olmo is no longer a target and flick actually acknowledges that Barca has an endurance and stamina issue. Xavi just wouldnt acknowledge anything negative hed always point the finger but never in the right direction.

    Purist is very good at analysing tactics. However, I think Flick is more to Enrique than Xavi. There is no movements in Xavi”s Barca, it’s like to players don’t know what to do: he also doesn’t react to other coaches changes. In other words, his in game management is not good. Flick is an elite coach, if things aren’t working he’ll change. Also the physically will be a massive improvement.

      This, completely agree.
      You can't say Xavi was doing vertical direct football, if all they did was pass around in station with no motion. one or three direct passes does not mean the team plays direct football.

    Could you elaborate on "both wants to arrive in the opposition box as soon as possible"? This season Xavi got 67% of possession meaning he doesn't like to force the play, but he prefer to build up with low tempo. Also I disagree on "Barcelona going back to front quite quickly" : Blaugrana are the last in the liga for %forward passes, meaning, again, that they spend a looot of time with the ball before going vertical

    Strategy and formation are less than 50% of the a manager provides. There are other things like game reading, man management etc where Xavi lacked. I think flick could do what xavi was unable of

    You are spot on about Xavi's Barca. I don't know how Flick will set up this team but one thing that I think he will bring is a new mentality. Barca, for a long time, have missed a winning mentality.

      @@bythecliff You're the one talking about mentality here, and to put it in words you can understand, Hansi Flick is a softie. Gundogan has said this, and his videos of his team talks when he was Germany's coach also shows this.

      @@joseoku6946 You're the one bringing up "mentality coach". There is no such thing. Flick is known to demand a lot from his players. Xavi was too soft and almost lost the dressing room.

    Flick will improve Barca physicality, that is the only thing we lacked prior to Flick. If this aspect has been solve, I can see Barca will be a combination of Man City, Liverpool and Leverkusen. We will strikes fear against our opponent with the profile Hansi Flick brings in to our squad.

    No mention of pressing/counter pressing which has been horrendous under Xavi. Flick will massively improve that as well
    Plus, yes while he does not have a super serum, he also doesn't hire his friends on the fitness staff like Xavi. So i think we'll have improvements related to fitness as well
    One last point, you fail to mention the possibility that Flick will adapt. All good coaches adapt, it was only Xavi that failed to do so. His Bayern team was very different to his Germany team
