Myrmoteras binghamii in test tube nest

You are watching a short video showcasing my small colony of Myrmoteras binghamii ants in their test tube nest.
These particular ants are known as trap-jaw ants due to their hunting mechanism. They swiftly snap their jaws shut like a trap to capture their prey. Remarkably, trap-jaws have evolved independently three times among different ant species.
The genus Myrmotera belongs to the subfamily Formicinae, which also includes ants such as Lasius, Formica, and Camponotus. Therefore ants of the genus Myrmotera don't have a sting.

Ich bin immer wieder aufs neue von der grossen Artenvielfalt bei Ameisen begeistert. Immer wieder sieht/liest man etwas von einer Art die man noch nicht kennt👍🏻 btw schöne Aufnahmen natürlich

Das schöne an dieser Art ist, dass sie recht klein bleiben (in der Natur meist nur so 8-22 Tiere, in der Haltung bis zu 100 etwa).
