Thank you for the fair and balanced review. I have had my Polestar 2 (non performance) for 3 months now, racking up 6k miles, and I love it. I have coworkers who are Tesla guys (All the way from a guy with 2 2012 Model S, up to 2021 model 3 dual motor guys.) The like the design and the interior as well. I am hoping that with the 800V system coming in the Polestar 3, they begin to catch up to Tesla in range and efficiency. Again, thank you for not personifying the rabid Tesla fanboy.

Want to point out, every Polestar 2 sold in the US carried the 25% Trump tariff. If there was no import tariff, with Federate tax rebate and some local state EV incentives, a base model long range AWD Polestar 2 will be a hair over $30000. For low-$30k you get a 250mile EPA range, 4.5sec 0-60 entry-level luxury hatchback made with Volvo parts, it will absolutely annihilate the EV market here. As an American, I am glad the Chinese tariff exist.

Alex: As a satisfied Tesla owner, it would be difficult for me to give an unbiased review of another EV brand; you did a good job! IMHO, the Tesla supercharger network, the higher charge rate and the slightly higher range still gives Tesla the edge over other products. Hope you had a chance to drive the Polestar down Colorado Blvd. (because, you know, that's just a cool thing to do) LOL!

  • @benjaminsmith2287

Thanks. Good to see a Tesla owner do a fair and objective report on a competitor.
A few things. Polestar's single engine car is actually FWD, not RWD. Yeah, strange but it is.
The Polestar 2 is Volvo's Concept 40.2. It's a sedan version of the XC40, Volvo's Concept 40.1. Both the Polestar 1 and Polestar 2 are Volvo Concept cars brought into production. Polestar made very small tweaks to the exterior, like the light bar in the rear wasn't part of the Concept 40.2 design.
There are Polestar versions of Volvos, like the s60 Polestar. It has the same gold trim where you'd find in this Polestar.
I feel the PP may be too stiff for broken and rough toads. I like the dual-motor with the regular shocks. They're comfortably firm and the ride is sporty yet absorbent over moderate to big bumps with only a really bad road intruding. Since the P2 is built on a hybrid chassis, there are compromises to aerodynamics and interior storage and such. going forward, Volvo and Polestar will be built on proper dedicated EV platforms. I do find the Tesla much more airy and I wish Euro manufacturers would go back to lower beltlines and larger windows. The rear window especially is small in this P2.
I feel the steering could be heavier. Even the firm setting isn't firm enough. I also think the console is just too obtrusive but it'll be gone in future Polestar. The car feels, honestly, like a Volvo with a very sporty tune because that's what it is. It's rock solid. Don't get the squeaking suspension, that's not normal and something that Polestar should be made aware of to fix in this particular sample.

My parents chose the polestar (single engine long range). While we agree that a similar priced Tesla beats the polestar in every technical metric, my mother wouldn't be comfortable with having to use the touchscreen for everything (I'm doubtful I would but I'd give it a try). In my opinion Polestar hit the sweets pot with just enough physical buttons.
A big question mark is build quality - tesla improvemened in that regard but if I'm informed correctly it's still depending on luck what kind of quality you get.

  • @tor2919
    @tor2919 2 роки тому +1

It needs to be understood that Geely simply owns Volvo. But Volvo is a far more genuinely Swedish brand now than during the Ford ownership. All design, r&d and production happens in Sweden.
Ownership doesn’t necessarily have much to do with how or where a product is made. Especially when it’s hands off ownership like Geely. Ford was awful and forced their platforms on to Volvo, which is why Ford era Volvos are much less Volvo than Geely era.

There's a couple Polestar 2's in the neighborhood, but I've yet to catch the owner's outside and chat with them. Not a bad looking car by any means and if Tesla didn't have such a lead in range and charging network, this car would definitely be one to take a look at. The single motor is FWD, not RWD as you stated.
Pixel headlights (think Adaptive High Beam headlights) are not active in the USA as they are technically not legal yet. Part of the Build Back Better bill approval will force US regulatory agencies to change the rules and allow more than two distinct headlamp settings. Whats nice is that once it is legal its just a SW update (I know Audi will up-charge if it happens). Lets hope Polestar provides it for free. Reviews from folks in Europe say these are some of the best headlights in the business.

It’s great to have many different videos to watch even if it is similar information! You could watch two separate videos and hear something a second time but it doesn’t hit you until you hear it that second time.
Some people won’t ever watch any video BUT this one either so it’s great to have it!

I’m not sure why but it was highly annoying you mentioned that you had to pay for your rental like you’re not a regular person. 🙄🙄😑😑😒😒 ***unsubscribes***

I drove both tesla model s 2019 and polestar. Here is what I have noticed...
    1. First the key feels like a matchbox..something like a Chinese toy
    2. Very Small frunk
    3. Car in-car display feels like mini Ipad, very tiny compared to tesla
    4. Car UI is a joke, feels like using an HTML page.
    5. Ride is much better than an ICE car closer to tesla model 3y
    6. Front storage/cup holder - no space and we don't know what is in there taking all space
    7. Car has maybe 20% of the smart features that Tesla has.
    8. Moving from ICE to EV people might like this car. Someone who has driven tesla will never touch this car

Gold touches? That's jewelry and nothing more. In fact I flat-out hate the fact that Polestar (and many other legacy OEMs transitioning to EVs) recreates a front radiator grill appearance because of some weird ICE-related knee-jerk impulse. Failure, IMO. And Alex Sibila looses credibility giving the Polestar a pass where it doesn't deserve a pass.
And spec-wise Polestar has a long way to go to be competitive in the EV space.
