Amazing video mate! Great vlog. Pretty cool to see these new buses up and running (I still remember the original Station Link pink buses when Epping-Chatswood had to close for the Metro conversion!), though it's a bit unfortunate they aren't electric, definitely a missed opportunity there!
as electric buses are only just starting to become more common, they would all be busy. While you could bring all the electric buses to do bankstown service and put diesel buses on the lines that currently see electric buses, the passengers on those lines would probably be annoyed at having something taken away from them. So, it's easier to give the temporary bus line diesel buses plus, battery charging takes a while and needs to be done fairly regularly, while fuelling is not as long of a process- and these buses will be pushed to the limit, so I suppose the very fast turnarounds would be important
@GreatAussieDrives I wish it was that simple. Only some depots are currently set up for electrics & all region contracts require an average fleet age of under 25 years. Furthermore, electric buses don't have the range & charge speed for most back2back shifts.
@@TANGARASandOSCARS I did cover the back-to-back shifts issue, but yeah the fact that some depots simply don't have the capacity to charge the buses would be another problem. Charging on 240V isn't at all practical- even a car takes an entire night to recharge from empty, a bus would take much longer- and you can't just make a fast-charger appear out of nowhere, let alone one a fast charger system that can handle dozens of buses at once...
@@briannem.6787 Sorry mate was trying to reply to the master comment not you. You're 100% right, though I recon some of these new BCI diesel buses will be fit for the scrapheap in 15 months. It's a rough route & they had many door issues on the 1st weekend alone.
The majority of them (the pink fronted, new looking ones) are Diesel BCI integral units, made in China. Some older Volvo and Scania units with Custom Coaches & Volgren bodies are in the pink colours, and there are also some buses being provided by NSBC, Punchbowl Bus Company & Sydney Bus Group, manufactured by various companies.
Great video Phil! At least they are decent buses and the stops are well signposted and organised not like the pathetic attempts here in the UK. Nice to see views of suburban Sydney district.
wow their very nice. their mostly from my operator transit systems. with my region region 3 hoxton park accreditation on the units. great job of filming their first run @SydneyTrainsVlogs. I been wanting to see these.
Hi Phil, interesting video. Those buses seem to be a good size, though articulated buses may fit more passengers. It will be interesting to see what route the buses use to reach all the needed locations. I am curious as to how the Southwest Link bus will travel from Dulwich Hill to Sydenham, as to get to Marrichville Station, it will have to detour along Illawarra Road and then somehow head back to Marrickville Road to travel on to Sydenham. As far as i know, there are no direct roads near Marrickville Railway Station that go to Sydenham. Anyway, take care. Rob in Melbourne Australia.
the southwestlink runs exactly the same way the existing 10T3 rail replacement has ran, from illawarra road the buses turn right at the lights onto marrickville road then theres a loop road at the end into the station, without traffic this takes about 5mins
For me - not the most engaging video of all time. Perhaps if you had sat up the front to look forward etc. You'd probably have to engage the driver before leaving Bankstown... Then again, listening to the radio was a bit different for one of your Vlogs.. And like all Sydney buses, following roundabouts is merely a "suggestion".....
and what about passengers blasting their music and phone calls on speaker? cant bus drivers have just one thing that keeps them in a good mood while ferrying around ppl who dont appreciate them?
Thanks sir. For showing us this video. I can see what's going-on there. Makes me prepare for my travel.
No problem!
Thank you for watching :)

The Subcontractor's buses (NSBC Group) are 90% electric BYD/Nexport & 10% whatever else was left lying around the yard

They sound almost like the Go Zero (Green Buses) that you see around Sydney these days. Wonder if they are?
Why do they make emissions though
I still see trains on the Bankstown line so idk whats going on
Maybe change your channel name to Sydney Transport vlogs? :) You'll still have the STV logo haha
They stopped industrial action since last Friday. Didn't you see the news, Phil?
Can you go to central station now and record
I can’t right now lol
Later
Sydney buses vlog will be alsome instead of Sydney trains Vlog
Why do you pronounce the word route the American way?
I alternate.
I pronounce it one way and people carry on about it so i pronounce it the other way and i get the same thing.
No big deal really
Oh no…
It has to happen :)
Can you came to my honeymoon is at Campsie
awww so sweet, i'll join you!!!

You may not agree but I think there should be a law against bus drivers inflicting their choice of radio station on their passengers!
i dont see why the drivers compartment doesnt have its own sound system independent of the rest of the bus.
and what about passengers blasting their music and phone calls on speaker? cant bus drivers have just one thing that keeps them in a good mood while ferrying around ppl who dont appreciate them?
2 CH for oldies and 2JJJ for the kids ;)
