    I love movies like this that acknowledge the greed & acquisitiveness of humans. like the scene where Emily says “we shouldn’t have even been down here” I really felt that bc just like in films like Kong: Skull Island, The Descent, Alien, Annihilation, and many more, when humans start dying it’s because they were snooping around in a place they shouldn’t have been in the first place. It really makes you learn something. don’t go searching for things if u can’t handle the consequences of what’ll come once u find it.

    Through out the movie the cast seems to be effected psychologically by some outside force. One character thinks he's hearing birds chirping, but no one else hears it, the captain forgets his daughters age, the Asian chick mumbles nonsense to herself, the same with her boyfriend, and the main character says something weird early on, but I don't remember what it was. I took this as Cthulhu effecting them. Update: according to the director, the captain was on the original drill, where everyone went crazy hearing things, and it was abandoned. They later returned, and this is where the movie takes place. So the captain knew that there was something weird going on. Which may be why he refused to escape early on, and only gave the excuse that a captain is the last one to leave. So the company has already rebooted this project before, and will seemingly continue to do it again.

    I just got done watching the movie for the first time, and it was something about the Captain and his daughter being connected to that monster being awakened.
    If you remember near the beginning of the film when he was first introduced onscreen, Kristen's character asked the Captain why he didn't leave with the escape pods to go home and be with his daughter, the camera cuts to his face and he looked troubled, then quickly changed the subject. Then halfway through the movie as they were all talking while going down to the ocean floor, the other woman with them asked him how old his daughter is, and he said "she's 14", and Kristen Stewart's character then said "14? I thought she was older than that, like around my age?" and the captain again looked worried as if he had slipped up, then jokingly stated "I guess I'm getting old", as if he was lying about something. Then near the end of the film when Kristen made it to Shepard station, she saw in the captain's locker under the map with the Pentagram drawing a pamphlet with a picture of a girl that read "In Loving Memory, Died at Age 14", and Kristen looked confused.
    I'm guessing he sacrificed his daughter to the sea monster long ago or something, but he was definitely tied to that monster and his daughter was obviously involved.

      Interesting theory! I did read on a few articles though that the Cthulhu drawings was just an easter egg. My assumption was that when he answered Emily's question about his daughter's age and Norah corrected him, he became worried because he didn't tell Norah the truth that his daughter had actually died at age 14. Norah eventually found out the reason why he said his daughter was 14 when she found the memorial card.

      its not being down at that depth with that pressure can mess with ur head just like he said anyone at that depth can't survive that long. he wasn't worried about "slipping up". im assuming he lost his daughter at 14 and when she asked she assumed the daughter was still alive but his daughter died at 14 so thats the number he gave her then realized she died. and the map in his locker was I believe the dig site of the Mariana trench showing something was down there and he knew putting all those lives at risk, that's why she seemed upset when she saw it. this is just a prediction, good theory ig but ik his daughter had nothing to do with what went on, they simply drilled too far and woke up cthulu.

    • @lindsaymonroe567
      @lindsaymonroe567 3 роки тому +1

      @@JaySmooth_ if the pressure was messing with his head like you say, then why was he still holding a pamphlet of her funeral in his locker and also tried to quickly change the subject when he was asked "why didn't you go back to the surface to be with your daughter?", it was as if he KNEW she had been dead and was well aware, that DEFINITELY was not the pressure of being underwater messing with his head and neither was he looking confused either, he was very conscious of her death already and tried to evade the question.
      I will admit that I could be wrong about the connection between Cthulu and the Captain's daughter, but the fact is that there is surely a connection between the two, after all why was there a Pentagram in his locker along with her photo of her funeral? It wasn't just a coincidence that they were drilling and mistakenly awakened him, this was all on purpose, the only unsure part is what the purpose was.

They new exactly where to dig, they wanted to study and observe and as usual without thinking of any large consequences. Also Cthulhu didn't die in the end which could open up a sequel but I think it's best to just end it as it is.

      An astigmatism (which is what I have) is slightly fuzzy all the time at all distances, but I can see well enough without my glasses to do much of anything other than read medium and small text. Even then, if I squint _just_ the right amount I can make text sharp enough to read in short bursts. If she has a mild astigmatism, she may still be perfectly capable of reading text without her glasses, but working an 8-12 hour shift without them would give her a headache from the long term effort of the eye's straining to focus.
