I normally prefer songs that have unusual structures. I hate the manufactured generic normal uninspired type pop chords. It gets boring sometimes. But this, this is just different in the best way possible. He is legit one of my favorite artists ever and i don't say that about many artists, only a few good ones.

- [ ] Being black in America ( a introspective in 2020 )
Imagine being born in the 80s as a child of the black panther movement , the LA riots and racial upheavals now in 2020 is it all that different I think not : go into the void with me if u will. As a child of the 80s (1984) I was born during the Rodney king riots in Los Angeles bcoz of the killing of an u armed black male where racial fights were happening between Koreans and blacks (one of my aunts on my moms side happens to be Korean) bcoz of a misunderstanding of culture. Now what does that have to do with me well...A LOT
When I was in elementary school ( late 90s ) bcoz of my skin tone ( wasnt really black wasn’t really white : which you think would’ve benefitted me but when u have only black , white and Latino kids in ur school it’s not the best of situations, I wasn’t really afforded a race : I was labeled black not only that but I’m autistic en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asperger_syndrome which basically means all my auditorial sense work at once and I can’t do a damn thing about it. That got me labeled in school as the “slow kid “ ( I was academically ahead but socially behind ) which means I didn’t have friends until MUCH LATER IN SCHOOL. In middle school ( around 1996-2002) I was in a learning development program which actually stunted my growth luckily for me though my school matriculated in 2003 ( I hated a vast majority of my schoolmates who were “disappointed “ in the decision but had they not treated me like 💩 then maybe I wouldn’t have turned on them but they did so it was no skin on my nose”.
After matriculation in 2003 to a performing arts high school( starting my country music fandom : man I feel like a woman by shania Twain ) I started thriving socially bcoz unlike my previous school there wasn’t a clique system it was more like a algorithm that supported each other. I see that this requires explanation, since it was a performing arts high school the so called “geeks “ were the most popular people in my school so much so that i ended up staying at the school an extra year to help a friend of mine who was a year behind me ( I wasn’t gonna graduate with people who I didn’t like nor respected plus the guy that needed my help was also socially inept. In middle school I started playing piano ( which labeled me as a nerd but at the high school I graduated from I was not only a black nerd but as it would turn out also a black goth ( I hung out with the kids who listened to rock groups like My chemical romance and smashing pumpkins rather than Tupac and notorious BIG
How connected was my new ( and eventually graduating ) class , well at the urging and behest of a football player who I had been friends with , he asked me to participate in the school talent show , well knowing my introverted personality I looked at him all kinds of sideways but agreed bcoz maybe it would be a step in a forward direction (plus the other football players on the varsity team urged me to do it but of course I had the condition they had to be there ( little did I know they’d ACTUALLY SHOW UP bcoz you know people: if u ask them to show up they gonna be wishy-washy at best) so I do the performance ( it was a poem about my grandmother on my mom side who had passed away after a church camp incident that had me stay all but a day bcoz the girls in my cabin were ruthless bcoz I was more reserved than them and they couldn’t take it all to only the next day get lauded and embarrass them for embarrassing me.
In 2010 bcoz of my sports background ( I never played a sport but my dad played college football) I became a bull riding fan lemme be ABUNDANTLY CLEAR , IF U CANT GET HIT OR GRAVITY DOESNT BRING U TO THE GROUND IT AINT A SPORT ITS A RECREATION (CHEERLEADERS ARE ATHLETES) in 2011 I became a NASCAR (NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF STOCK CAR AUTO RACING ) fan after watching the Daytona 500 : in 2016 becoming a hockey fan as well as a rugby fan and in 2018 becoming a MMA fan : all of the aforementioned would get ur black card taken away bcoz the stereotypical black woman doesn’t like sports and would much more prefer shopping...well I’m 5”7 and got giraffe legs so the best I can do is go shopping at plus size stores and as for musical taste I’d rather listen to country music any day.
Furthermore and this has nothing but everything to do with all of this in 2010 my sister ( who’s Nubian black, I’m more peanut butter ) graduated high school and gets accepted to Georgetown university but bcoz of a racist incident involving my father ended up going to and graduating from Loyola Marymount in California with a graphic design degree.
All of that to say that in 2020 even in a pandemic I’m thankful for the scars it gave me bcoz it taught me how to stand on my own.
