Thanks. Yes, I'm finally getting the hang of playing like I want to at will on camera. I made this a point for myself from the beginning: play before you talk in one continuous shot so viewers can see that I can play what I teach, no cutting or just little snippets. It was very difficult to do this at first but by forcing myself to keep doing this it's getting easier and easier. Lots of people can "talk a good solo" but I'm only interested when they can play a good one first. Hanging out with Stochelo and Mozes Rosenberg showed me the importance of this! Those guys ALWAYS play a good solo no matter the circumstances. I'm slowly getting there myself on guitar!

    A very powerful lesson, Christaan!
That F# diminished over Ebmaj also you pointed out Eb maj and G minor are the same chord
i have started looking at the pentatonics that out line scales like D minor melodic
if you play E pentatonic minor starting on A, that is called Dorian Pentatonic by many players
It can out line the Dorian mode, and the same pentatonic pattern kind of outlines D altered a half step up
the incredible thing to me is you describe Eb major/Gminor/F# diminished . I look at G minor Pentatonic blues with Ab 1/2 diminished as if the G is the ii chord of melodic minor
or iii chord in major modes
, it is the same relative diminished if you look at Minor pentatonic as out lining the Phrygian. That being said, if you play D melodic minor over the D7 the relative diminished is also Ab 1/2 W diminished.
I'm sure you under stand, there are a lot of common shapes with all these names which are really synonyms . people have told me i have found a round a bout way to play , but i think you have the more direct route right here in this video

At first glance in the thumbnail, I thought your guitar was an Epiphone Emperor Regent. Just like mine. What brand, model is it?

It's a Peerless Monarch. I really like it although one day I want to try a well setup Gibson L5 or other high end archtop just for comparison sake

@@ChristiaanvanHemert There are no end of High End, High Priced Jazz guitars around. Mine was only $600 U.S. It sounds great and it's based on an L5.

That price is for a used one though. And, the internal bracing is just two parallel bars for the top. They use the same body for a floating pickup like mine. But, they also have a two and three pickup model. The two pickup is the Joe Pass signature guitar. It's not quite as deep as an L5 either.
