Build a Tiki Bar from Recycled Pallet Wood - Off Grid Project

  • We build a tiki bar using recycled pallet wood to add to our off grid cabin site in the forest. For the first part of the building process we break the pallets down in our garage, using power tools to help speed up the process as we wanted to build this whole project in one day. The pallets we reclaimed for free from various industrial sites. This helped us to save money. Once we had cut and measured the pallets to size, we began building some bar stools from parts of pallet wood. We then sized up the frame for the bar itself. With this part of the building completed, we carried the wood into the forest to start work on building the tiki bar itself. We nailed the basic frame together, and then put some timber support poles for the wood roof. Using wide pieces of pallet wood, we built the roof of the tiki bar using the simple frame that we had made. We then made a small floor area out the front of the bar.
With the main build complete, we added some willow screening to the front of the bar to make the pallets less visible. We then added a few small shelves to put bottles on.
With the tiki bar in the woods now complete, we got the campfire going and cooked up a bbq on the cast iron grill and cooking tripod. The meal was burgers with cheese, and chicken and chorizo kebabs on the grill. We finished off the episode with some theory time.
If you want to watch all the episodes of the Off Grid Pallet Wood Cabin Build then follow the playlist here: • Off Grid Log Cabin Bui...
The aim of this wilderness project was to build a small, one man tiny cabin from recycled pallet wood. The homestead site itself now has the pallet cabin complete with raised bed, woodstove, shelves, book case, folding table, plus a raised vegetable bed, front porch, bench, pallet picket fence and outdoor washing area.

As I'm 5 days away from the 3 year anniversary of my Father shuffling off this mortal coil, I find this video.
Your Pops reminds me of mine: an excitable, lovely man who strives for nothing more than more time with his loved ones.
For anyone who might read this, do not take for granted fun, goofy projects such as this.
A project isn't even needed. Tell them that you love them. Interview them. Ask them their thoughts on world changing moments in their lifetime (every generation has had them as evidenced by the "theory time" portion), ask them about their day to day in their youth, ask them about Love.
Thank you for this fun project idea and for the peak into your relationship with your Dad.

Can't begin to tell you how much we enjoyed this video. Your Tiki bar is adorable. I think your barbecue station over the fire pit is already so perfect. Great setup. We still have acid rain here in North Central Ontario. Not so bad nowadays. SO2 (sulphur dioxide) emissions were visible in the summer after a rain, on patio furniture and wood decks. The surfaces actually darkened with a very fine black powder. We live in a mining community. It was worse in the 1960''s to early 2000's. Our plastic garden furniture would actually get damaged. Things are quite a bit better in the past decade, due to new regulations for emission from mines.

When you named your video series you really (to borrow a phrase) hit the nail on the head!!! All of your videos are Awesome, but this one really hit the spot! Please keep making the videos and especially with your dad in them! I very much love to see the two of you cutting up as you did in this one. My dad died with Alzheimer's Disease, and I so wish I had talked more with him and had more on tape, video, or something, but alas, I don't have anything other than my memories and there are precious few of them. What winning the lottery would be to most people, being able to spend a week with you two would be to me! I think that the reason I enjoy your videos so much is that you make me feel like I am a part of your family, and I much appreciate that!

Get the drum out of a old/ broken washing machine or spin dryer. We use them at hunting camp so that the chance of starting a forest fire is greatly reduced. They have many small holes in, to create a great draught to get the fire nice and hot for cooking. Great video once again.

The acid rain was primarily caused by coal-burning power stations. They emitted lots of sulphur dioxide which, when mixed with the atmospheric moisture, resulted in dilute sulphuric acid returning as rainfall. We now have far fewer coal-burning power stations in Europe, so the problem has naturally reduced. Well, that's my theory anyway.
For a future project, I reckon you need a small, thermal siphon, rocket stove powered hot water system for dish and hand washing! Something holding maybe a couple of gallons would be enough and it would warm up reasonably quickly. And you could perhaps find some wild honeysuckle (we used to have that in my local woodland in Sussex) or maybe Ivy to grow up those green mesh panels. I think it would add to the 'tropical' or maybe 'jungle' atmosphere!
