    I'm a leftie but I just love Marshall and Saagar. They are intellectually honest actors. They criticise policies or political strategies based on their informed opinions as opposed to some strict party line, it actually makes me more receptive to hear views from the right because they are authentic and I trust them. Brilliant interview guys!

      Same boat. I actually appreciate the honest right. Cause when Saagar is honest about his exceptionalism and nationalism, then at least we can have a real convo. You don't have to spend all your time swatting the propaganda, you can actually discuss the real differences. First step to resolving problems is admitting there's a problem, and what that problem is. lol

      @@ODoyleIYourFamilysGoingDown He's conservative, socially. So that viewpoint is that drugs are automatically BAD. Changing your mind state, being addicted to stuff, etc.
      Grew up with immigrant parents. Even smoking should be illegal as far as they're concerned. lol It's a mindset. It's a worldview. Whether it's scientific or not (we're still in the infancy of marijuana studies so we can't chest thump too hard), it is a very popular view. It's something we have to deal with without just calling them stupid.
      I know, it's hard. I'm not gonna lie and pretend I stick to my own advice. I don't most of the time. lol I'm just sayin, that's the correct way. Let's talk to them rationally.
      What's the difference between coffee, nicotine addiction and alocoholism? Why is morphine legal but medicinal marijuana derivatives are not? All the industries involved in this - from private prisons to the COs who work there to the small business that manufacture n provide the boots, handcuffs, buttons, the cafeterias and parole officers - when they come out opposing the legalizing of a relatively benign natural plant, do we really accept that it's good faith opposition?
      When we know that they're on the same side as big pharma, and they would loose half their business?
      Last time I checked, something like 40% of people in the justice system were there cause of marijuana. That's a lot of unsold boots if legalization happens.
      Also, cause they're conservative, you can appeal on like tax grounds, reducing crime, etc., etc.

      @@ODoyleIYourFamilysGoingDown it happens. Haha. He’s quite young. The propaganda war on drugs with misinformation galore was an exceptionally strong movement, brain washing generations. His more recent statements referring to how complex his feelings seems much more accurate. God created mind expanding drugs. The CIA & pentagon weren’t/(still aren’t?) down with that kind of social progress. Evangelicals/ bible thumpers/ Republicans really should keep that in mind. Manufactured drugs are far far more dangerous.

      If you enjoyed this, you should definitely check out their show on The Hill's UA-cam channel. It's a totally fresh format, they speak to people on both sides of the political aisle and it's ALWAYS polite, civil, respectful, but also totally honest and doesn't pull any punches. It's an amazing antidote to the escalating partisan tribalism of late, it's like a prototype of what we'll be doing in the future. I'm Australian and not affected much by American political machinations, but I've been watching Rising religiously since they started mid last year just because it's so refreshing and enjoyable, I can't go back to anything else. Both of them are also awesome hosts, super knowledgeable & insightful, also light-hearted and always ready to poke fun and have a laugh. Give it a go and you'll wonder how you ever watched anything else.

      Lachlan Bell I subscribed 2 or 3 months ago. Gave up on cable news during Bernie’s first run. TYT, Majority Report, and all of their offshoots led me to Krystal and Saagar. @@philtronnn out of curiosity, do you still watch TYT or the Majority Report? I can't handle either of them, used to love TYT but can't stand them these days. Don't know if Seder's show was ever good at some stage, but I first found it last year and to me, it's the most cancerous political show in the general sphere. Maybe there's some legit Stalinesque people out there, but of the stuff I've seen that's mostly within the overton window, I've found TMR to be the worst. Curious if you still follow one/both of them? And if so, what do you like about them, or what value do you feel you get from them? Genuine question, I'm always wary of being blind to the positive aspects because of any bias or preconceived ideas I might unwittingly be allowing to cloud my judgement.

    • @philtronnn
      @philtronnn 4 роки тому +1

      Lachlan Bell not so much TYT these days. Occasionally if something in my feed sparks an interest.
      MR almost every day. Typically podcast. I like Sams take on things given his prior life/work experience, and his ability to debate and defend positions. I’m also a huge fan of the in depth interviews that he does. I love the long conversation format, an have picked up some crazy little gold nuggets thru that. I personally vibe with most of the views, and I appreciate the comedic aspect adding levity to sometimes hard/sad/concerning news. I think the thing that I like most about the MR is that Sam has allowed his platform to become community. He’s got thoughtful, educated kids on that team, and he’s created a space for them to explore their own views, assimilate info, and then regurgitate what they find back into the community conversation. And they’ve all got side podcast projects where they are going deeper into their specific interests. The humanity, and organic growth, that I’ve heard over the last 4 years and continue to hear every day is what keeps me coming back. Learning combined with regular daily discourse amongst a variety of age groups and mindsets is a really interesting experiment to listen to, or at least it has been for me.
      Also love the shit out of Chapo Trap House.
      I don’t think too much about getting indoctrinated by another persons undercurrent belief systems (Stalin, Marx, Friedman, Smith, or whatever) because every human has a whole world of experience that has led them to where they are today in their personal human evolution. And I believe everyone’s personal experience is completely valid and has value. I don’t always agree, but differing views make me question my own programming, which I find important for my own continued search for enlightenment, and evolution. My conversations, debates, arguments, and empathy for other human viewpoints have become much stronger thru taking in what my heart and the universe leads me to; weather that means rabbit holing on UA-cam, following breadcrumbs from one show to the next, or taking suggestions from friends or completely random people in comments sections. I just trust that if I keep the mountain top of Loving and Learning on my life’s horizon, that the universe is going to allow me to keep seeing connections regardless of what information I’m putting into my brain. All these different views are opposite sides of the same coin. The dark and the light. But you can’t have one without the other. It’s all a big game of loving to learn, and learning to love. About the yin and yang of my own nature, and that nature amongst our earthly humanity.
      For shits and grins. My main go to’s these days are;
      -Majority Report
      -TMBS
      -Pitchfork Economics (can’t suggest this pod highly enough. Everyone should listen to every podcast they’ve done. Absolutely mind blowing content)
      -Chapo Trap House (I’m 43 and these kids are so f’ing smart. I enjoy the humor, though some of the more nuanced stuff goes over my head. This kids are doing live shows in primary states, and it’s impressive to see kids so passionately involved in the revolution)
      -The Hill (only The Rising)
      -Humanist Report
      -Kyle Kulinski
      -Rational National
      -David Packman
      -Ed Mylett (awesome pod)
      -Jim Kwik
      -Super Soul Sunday’s
      And to round out all that shit, on the spiritual side I listen to a lot of;
      -Alan Watts on UA-cam (always thought and insight provoking)
      -Abraham Hicks podcast and on UA-cam.
      On the recent audible front;
      -Utopia for Realists by Rutger Bregman was eye opening
      -Becoming Supernatural by Dr. Joe Dispenza is pretty wild.
      -The Monk who gave away his Ferrari is off to a good start
      I drive a lot for work, so I have the amazing opportunity to soak all of this info up during my work days. Blessings from the universe.
      And blessings to the universe for the opportunity to be an active, and aware, part of it.

She has pretty left-wing values, which is fine, but she tends to take it as a given that these quite left-wing interpretations are objectively reflective of reality. She seems to lack the ability/skill of detaching her emotions and understanding the issues from different perspectives. Saagar is much better at that, which I think is why he's almost always bang on.
      I just clicked - one of the really surprising things discovered by research into the psychology of morality is that conservatives generally have a pretty accurate understanding of how progressive types see the world, but progressives cannot accurately identify why conservatives see things differently. Has to do with the relative value each side places on the respective core moral foundations, too much to explain here but fascinating nonetheless.

Without any supporting context your comment reads as sexist nonsense. If you think Krystal has clouded emotional judgment about something do tell, but it seems like you’re content to leave your comments vague. In terms of you characterizing her as more ideological (once again without reference to specific things she’s said), I would say they are both equally ideological and pragmatic: both are similarly concerned with values of the working class in America and actual policies that can get support those values, but are realistic in what they believe is achievable and effective (e.g. in their discussion about immigration, in which both lay out their value systems and the solutions they think would best support the American middle class). Pedro Barrenechea you’re using anecdotal absolutes, keyword I had used was “more”, meaning it’s relative to and not absolute to.
      I think there’s a misunderstanding but I will address the reasoning of your anecdotes which have very little to do with my prior statement.
      You give “hope” an absolute non tangible example and marginalized to a figure of speech while giving the reasons behind “fear” the flexibility of meaning from anecdotes. This is irrational.
      Also I wasn’t arguing whether hope or fear was better than the other, a balance of the two is ideal but like I said, the persons mentioned were “more rooted than”. That being said, Saager’s fear lead him to say that we should send the MIC to China .... An irresponsible thing to say, China has nukes and getting to a hot war with nukes doesn’t benefit anyone.

Why not instead we make an enormous investment in diplomacy and global economic populism that invests in the working class around the world such that people will become our allies because we help people, not because we have aircraft carriers off their shores and funnel billions of dollars into various countries oligarchies through their military industrial systems!

    I commend Saagar for having this discussion, but he is basically advocating for a police state. We must stop criminalizing everything and start meeting people’s needs. I’m not saying we don’t enforce laws, let’s just be smart about when to be punitive and when to help someone down on their luck or suffering from addiction. You know how we stop addicts from dying from fentanyl? Have drug testing and injection sites to make sure they are taking drugs safely and give them access to mental health programs and other supports. If we spend all our resources on interdiction, we can’t possibly direct our attention to policies that would actually save lives.

    We need to go beyond unions. We need a democratic economic system, where the business decisions are made by EVERYONE in the business, not a tiny group of owners. We already have them - they're called worker co-ops - but somehow we need to support & grow this sector. No reason why we have to work for bosses - aka capitalism - we can control our own work lives!

    • @botousai
      @botousai 4 роки тому

      And if everyone shares in the decision, does everyone also go bankrupt if the business fails? Or just the guy who invested in it? And there is nothing stopping any business owner right now from creating a worker co-op.

    • @mduckernz
      @mduckernz 4 роки тому +2

      @@botousai Yes, everyone would.
      They're technically possible to do now, and some exist, but it's very difficult to get loans for distributed power structures like co-ops. The legal system isn't really set up to make them viable or easy to start up and run.
      I think these legal reforms are needed to help get them set up and operate.
      I ALSO think that they should get large tax incentives over capitalist companies, because they are a mechanism for fighting wealth inequality, and so preventing the corruption of the democratic system through massive power imbalance. This is an important function deserving of tax incentives. It will reduce the need for social services and so balance out economically, through reduced utilisation and so costs to social services.

    • @lawsonj39
      @lawsonj39 4 роки тому +3

      I agree that co-ops are a much more democratic alternative to the corporate system. I don't think they're a total panacea, though; worker-owned enterprises are still private enterprises with all of the market-based incentives to keep prices low and maximize profit that impel private companies to abuse the environment, to find suppliers that exploit the hell out of their workers, etc. So co-ops will continue to need careful regulation.

    And on the topic of Sagaars's views of U.S. power projection, I'll do him one better. We don't need to be in the Middle East or protecting Europe or Asia. But we do need to be in space and in the cyber-world. That is the future of any potential warfare/military threats. We need to allow our allies to develop their own military forces and protect themselves. But if we want to safeguard our own national defense down the road, then cyber and space based warfare is will be the new frontier.

    27:30 You are fundamentally misrepresenting a large portion of the Left/Socialists. We don't think America should be the sole arbiter and source of world policy (and also foot the bill as its enforcer) while we starve our population at home. We think we should be pro-American business, but not to the extent that we go into other countries and overthrow them to keep sweetheart deals for nominally American corporations (Re: South and Central america for the last 50 years). We think our global militarism and foreign policy is actually a large driver behind any immigrant problem we have right now - people fleeing central america to the USA is a direct result of USA foreign policy, and we demand a change to both rather than just a wall to try to keep them out. We think the hostility and disdain for which we treat current and future allies is driving them into China's arms.
