No reason for prime to regress him just to make a plot
To be fair, prime wasn’t the first to regress him, he was more or less like this in colors-lost world. I’ve been thinking of this as more of a “redemption arc” for Sonic that’s set before Forces, the IDW series and Frontiers.
@bontonexofficial5075 and also another thing to add I do think by the time the series ends they might just say it's not cannon and just a different sonic or if they want it to be cannon mabey have it take place before force wanted to take place after forces but realize it wouldn't make since because in idw comics 1 issue eggman was gone
And plus sonic had awalys been a flawed character and its even established muilti times even before prime even happend he's not some idealized hero who can just fix problems he's just flawed hero and yey everything what you said was correct about sonic but other times he can take things to far and plus example of his reckless still being persent is frontiers in island 1 sonic even if the titan is so hige decided to beat it and also the cyber corrupted but also its a lose lose satioation so if sonic leaves everyone is trap if he frees theme his cyber corruption increases so even if it was reckless he knew its a lose lose satioation beside him trying to fight titan 1 without knowing how strong this titan is even in idw sonic thought eggman had change until eggman got his memory back and also sonic amost became corrupted from the metal virus and sonic trys 5o help surge change even if she's stubborn and refuses to and also more example that I won't be telling since we'll be here all day
I kinda see this as in character and out of character at the same time. Sonic had a flat character arc with flaw, such as cockiness, impatience, attitude, and is kinda mean, but they were never got in the way of his heroic, compassionate, brave, determined, laid-back, free-spirited side. That is Sonic, someone with flaw but never has them get to his head. But in prime, while his character is intact, now his character has to deal with his blind trust, something that wasn’t a problem with his character. If this was in his early days, then it could work, but Rouge and Shadow are present, so this has to take place recently. So, this is consistent/inconsistent to Sonic’s character.
Love to see some lore love about Prime, and I'm pretty happy that the writers are actually fixing traits from certain characters, especially Shadow. Despite all, I think SEGA is starting to realize this, since Frontiers also brought up a great evolution in these characterizations, but, even so, yeah, I agree, they still need to pave more the road away.
I agree! It’s great that they’re actually trying to fix the characters and give them meaningful arcs; in my opinion Frontiers was also a step in the right direction.
I am an older fan of the series, I do notice most of my fellow generation tends to think this series is such a bad characterization of Sonic. The archie fans grown up with these wild expectations for an ultra dark and serious at all times story. I am glad to see the younger generation can appricate the writing for this series which I honestly find to be better written than Sonic X in some places.
Yess I agree! I love Sonic X, but it wasn’t the best written at times. I think Prime has more of a solid grasp on the characters in general. Thanks for watching!
I kinda like thinking about this being a parallel to Blaze's arc in Sonic Rush. It takes a look at characters needing to look within themselves and grow from their active or passive self imposed stagnations. And to open ourselves to change in order to push for the future better shard by shard.
I feel like Chaos Sonic was included to deconstruct Sonic as well, much like how the shatterverse versions of Sonic's friends (and Eggman) all highlight a different element of their character. Normally a robotic Sonic is either very one note with them just being like a normal baddie but Sonic shaped with Sonic or like in Metal Sonic's case. The robotic double is more on the receiving side of an identity crisis with Sonic's distaste of them not really bugging him all that much in all reality, at least not as much as it does for Metal Sonic or Mecha Sonic. Both of those bots desire to be Sonic himself but can't as they both were made to mimic a pacific element of him (either his speed or strength) along with both being soulless and hollow for the most part which is by design. Chaos Sonic is a reverse on this idea though, he's a robotic Sonic dream come true for Eggman with him perfectly replicating the hedgehog full sale. He has a similar personality and probably could replace the hedgehog in New Yolk somewhat decently even if he still lacks the soul of Sonic all the same. Because of his 1to1 twisted mirror nature he gets under Sonic's skin because of how truly close he gets to the goal of replacing him, his characterization being some lifted from the AOSTH era makes this even more real but the twisted nature comes from a misplaced ego Metal and Mecha (even if he briefly slipped into it) has as well where they are self focused to a thinking friendships are a detriment to their success. This all comes to head in the end for Chaos Sonic as he dies by blindly heading face first to a goal of eliminating Sonic but getting hit by the shard energy shoot by Nine instead. Both highlighting the use of friendships but while also being a haunting reminder of what started this all in the first place, Sonic blindly barreling towards eliminating the problem of Eggman and the Paradox Prism.
I completely agree, I think Prime does a great job at giving us a new look at Sonic while still maintaining what makes him Sonic haha. And yess dude I love Sonic and Shadow’s dynamic so much💚
I definetly apreciate them trying to make Sonic not perfect. He's always been a good guy, but it's always felt like he can never do wrong, atleast for a long time. And the few times he does get some arc, like lost world, the problem kinda solves itself. Tails is caught, and Sonic gets sad and regrets his actions. But not only does Tails savehimself but it kinda is what allows them to win in the end too.... effectively making Sonics 'mistake' a good choice in the end. It just works out. Sonic once again charges head first into fourof his old baddies and another new threat in Forces and immediatly loses, and then the world gets taken over by eggman. Sonic could have tried to force them to chase him, get them away from the people and Tails and try to pick them off or stall for time(Since the dlc shadow story shows he was on his way and was just too late to help Sonic. Sonice doesn't know that but just saying) The game doesn't really emphasize just how badly Sonic screwed up, people died, lives were ruined. And he just comes back with his grin and it's like nothing happened. It's refreshing to see a show point out his blind actions don't 'just work' and it's kinda irronic that Shadow has been mostly right through much of the show. He is obviously the type to just get the shards, run and get the job done, without caring for anyone. But he has been mostly right. Don't trust Nine, don't mess with the crystal, and focus on the mission instead of trying to free Nine while he works on the inside. He's been wrong, like his assumption that the tech would allow him to enter other worlds, but it's nice to see the show isn't just making Shadow 'just an asshole' all the time. Now if only they could fuse together we'd have a good middle ground hedgehog.
My biggest issue with Prime is that it’s trying to be canon to the games, I don’t like this characterization of Sonic but if the show was its own thing. I’d be much more forgiving.
This was a Very good video! 😃 👍🏾 I liked the way you explained Sonic’s character in A very respectful and mature way. Hope to see more videos like this one 💙

I hope you make more of these sonic prime character deconstruction videos or just more character deconstruction videos in general. you really have a knack for it!
I've always considered Sonic similar to Spider-Man there's a symbol of a Great hero but when you pull back the layers their true identity is a flawed human character making them a perfect character ,the most realistic character is one with flaws.
1. great vid again! 2. here's a request or an idea, whatever you want to call it, i need someone to explain about tails' trauma (him getting bullied, cosmo ect) and how his anxiety and ptsd impacts not only himself but his friendships (examples like Sonic). i don't know about you but, recently in games, his been having more self-doubt, feeling like a burden to his friends... almost like he doesn't want to lose them (also, you don't have to make this video ok.) 3. you slay😍
Are you planning on doing an analysis on Shadow next after Prime ends? I'd like to hear your take on him in this show, because I quite like your character analysis videos.
I... Feel like I disagree. There's aspects I can agree with to an extent exploring the concept of trust. But it feels like a regression in his character at times. Like it's a younger and more naïve sonic. It isn't anywhere near what colors onward did to him, but seeing how he fell for eggmans taunt's? That just feels so... Out of character... Sonic's fallen for eggmans ploy's in the past due to arrogance sure. Just look at the opening of unleashed. He was super sonic, curbstomped eggman, and took a moment to chat with eggman with his guard down. And he got punished HARD for it. I do agree that they do understand these characters and it feels like they sorta got a handle on sonic taking advantage of his sassy nature. But it feels... weird. It is and isn't sonic to me. And this being a point in time where shadow and rouge are present just makes it harder to accept. I feel like there were better ways to potentially portray his ego and his ideals getting the better of him like we have in the comics. But it is a good show and explores these characters in great ways. It's an interesting take in sonic and there's validity in what it's trying to explore. But it's definitely a bit of a seesaw for me. Like they understood sonic's core traits but sorta... remolded him if that makes sense?
Fair enough! I see Prime as a slightly different take on the character; I think in order to give him an arc they had to remold him just a bit and personally I think it works well. But I def understand why some people aren’t fans of it.
I personally think that sonic should be a flat arc and should help other characters grow rather than growing himself. Because this is the way that sonic is in the main sires and prime is cannon apparently for some reason, if prime takes place before the main sires and shows sonic growing into the flat arc character that he is now then that’s fine but if it takes place after frontiers or any other post SA1 game then that is gonna make me mad because it makes no sense
I don't think "trust" is the right word. I think "optimism" is a better word for it. When you write a character that does something in a story, its up to the writer to create the consequences of that character's actions. Irregardless of whatever that character does, it always turns out fine because of plot armor. But what if the protagonist doesn't have plot armor? That's what Sonic is in this series. He could do something that he thinks is right but it turns out wrong in the long run because he's not protected by plot armor. That's why this is the best Sonic I've ever seen. He's not smart or insightful. So he should be relying on other characters that sees angles he can't but no, he just jumps in there, devil may care, and hopes for the best. I've seen people who ruined their lives doing stuff like that, irl.
I can see where youre coming from. On its own merit, Sonic Prime does a great job deconstructing characters, but not sonic IMO. Prime Sonic is NOT sonic in my eyes

He’s been levelheaded and cool since adventure, and went thru this arc in Sonic 3&K when he works with Knuckles after realizing Robotnik tricked him to steal the master emerald. No reason for prime to regress him just to make a plot
