Once again, I truly just enjoy your videos. Well done and I always learn something. I think Sangiovese is my desert island grape. Love Rosso and Brunello and Chianti Class!

Just opened my BDM tonight, but I wish I could try Rossos. Sadly, it's a lot harder to find Rossos in my country than Brunellos haha. Thank you for the video, your Sangiovese videos are always extra fun!

You mentioned this in earlier vlogs: Rosso di Montalcino is bang for the bucks. Just like Rosso di Montefalco. Glory to Sangiovese (and our wallet ;-) !

Thx for the tip on Pietroso, will pay them a visit next summer. Best value rosso I’ve is La Magia, give it 4-5 years though as it is a so called “baby/young Brunello”

Great video and completely agree! In our travels through southern Tuscany our favorites were: Chianti Classico Riserva’s, Gran Selezione’s, and Rosso di Montalcino’s. We love the sour cherry and liveliness of these wines. BdM’s and VdNM’s were richer and deeper, but we preferred beauty of the younger sangiovese. Our wallet thanked us, too!

A question for you if I may: Are Rosso’s 100% sangiovese? Brunello’s are 100% Sangiovese but once the winemaker decides to make Rosso, do they/can they😊 blend in other grapes?

Great tip! Rosso di Montalcino is a fantastic alternative to Brunello di Montalcino, offering a taste of the same region at a more accessible price point. Perfect for those looking to enjoy high-quality Italian wine without breaking the bank! 🍷

No Rossos tried yet, but the Altesino is the only Brunello I have been lucky enough to try yet and I thought it was fantastic, so cool to see their Rosso here!

Rossi di Montalcino doesn't seem to have the cachet or popularity of it's bigger brother in many markets. That's not to say that you can't find it, but the selections are often limited. This could be due to marketing or price points, as it seems like importers/distributors will offer CC (R) at lower prices and then offer Brunello for those looking for higher priced wines.
I haven't drunk it much as, I didn't know if I would be getting any noticeable difference in quality or taste compared to Chianti Classico (or Riservas), but it does seem to be good quality and offer decent QPR compared to other higher priced Tuscan wines. Cheers and great video!

Based on your way of describing what you like, I can recommend - Il Colle Brunello di Montalcino 2016, 2019 has just been released you will love it! High acidity, Grippy tannins, floraly, graphite covered by sour cherry and other light red fruits!

In years past I drank a lot of Brunello. Palate has since shifted to Piedmont. Favorite back then was Valdicava Madonna di Piano. The Rosso's from Valdicava & Frescobaldi were mainstays at the dinner table. Best Tuscan (Sangiovese) wine ever for me was 1980 Caparzo La Casa.

Rosso di Montalcino = instant like. Couldn agree more. I also tend to drink them more than my brunellos, just goes well with everything. Best Rosso I yet had was the 2019 Le Chiuse, better than many brunellos. For QPR I also often buy the Ciacci Rossos, readily available everywhere.

Rosso di Montalcino is a fave. Recently I've been on a string of good Aglianicos, and, at least to my not-so-educated palate, they really remind me of my cherished Rossos di Montalcino and Chiantis and Langhe Nebbiolos. Do you have something in mind for Aglianico?

Fantastic content as always! I find most of the time that for the same price point the Rosso di Montalcinos ($30ish) are much better than the "cheaper" Brunellos. Have you had similar experience?

I far prefer Brunello as a wine for drinking when I want to take it seriously but the wines (at their best) are powerful and take a lot of thought. To kick back and relax with something like Italian meatballs in tomato sauce I far prefer Rosso. Fuligni Ginestreto is a great wine for this given it´s higher acidity and tart cherry fruit. Given the elegance in its Brunello I was surprised how big the Rosso 2020 from Le Ragnaie was...

Ha, When watching your interesting video I was devouring a Rosso di Montalcino 2022 from Argiano. (Sheer coincidence). Here in France I paid €21 for it. I came about it buying some Argiano Brunello 2019. For which I paid €60/btl. The 2018 was selling at €115 thanks to WineSearcher nomination. I believe the 2019 will increase as well.

Good evening everybody!!!!! Looking for good quality price Rosso & Brunello? Check out for La Gerla or the local cooperative the Cantina di Montalcino, like the Produttori del Barbaresco in Piedmont solid and traditional wines for reasonable prices.

Forget Brunello and their baby Rosso
I value much more their neighboring Sagrantino di Montefalco of Umbria often dry, savory, and earthy, with notes of dried cherry, plum, and cranberry. It can also be powerful, mineral, and structured, with some of the most assertive tannins in wine
And it cost 2-3 times less of any Brunello
