I have had around 4 HB guitars so far, they are equal to anything 2-3x their price points !
I recently purchased the Harley Benton HB35 in Lemondrop and love that guitar. Wonderful sounding. Comfortable and easy to play. May have to get that LP Lemondrop to go along with it. I have a hard time calling these “budget” guitars. What you get for the price is unbelievable. I started playing in the 1960s and the budget guitars at that time were pretty much plywood and 2x4s with barbed wire for strings. “Budget” guitars have come a long way.

It's a housebrand with mass production savings and no dealerships. If Epiphone produced the same thing it would cost twice or triple that with all the overhead plus bame brand premium. So I just see them as being able to buy from the factory before a label is slapped on. So I think you can triple the price. So this should be 600 bucks and about equivalent to an Epiphone. While the top end HBs at 400 bucks would be over a grand and they compete favourably with guitars in the 1k+ range. Store brand is always a great deal. So it's not completely extraordinary. And by also making their own hardware they don't pay retail for bridges, pots and other components, just pickups but they buy so many of those they probably get a steep discount. Who would have ever heard of Roswell or Tesla pickups without HB? So they get sales, we get cheap components put together quite decently. And peofit margins can be slim as they move so much product and they already had the distribution network by virtue of being one of the largest online retailers with massive warehouses. So they could skip half the costs. If you could buy a Gibson in Nashville directly from the guy who made for cost of materials plus labour snd 10% profit you could buy a 60s Les Paul for 600 bucks probably. But instead Gibson does add more profit and a brand name premium, then a dealer buys it, adds profit and shipping to your local area and then sells to a guitar store who add profit on top and then you walk in and pay 2.5 grand. And Thomann own the entire chain. No need to take profit multiple times on the same product. No third parties to pay for hardware (like say Gibson, who pay a pretty steep price for say Grover hardware, or Floyd Rose guitars paying for either hardware or licensing).

I'm not a fan of how Thomann describes it but if you actually ask them they will be honest. Even my much more expensive SC550+ is veneer. So there is an actual maple cap but not AAA and that has a veneer that is of very high quality maple for the flametop. So it's two kinds of maple. Standard practice ESP does it too but they should specify it's AAA veneer on a regular maple top...

Re; the maple cap,someone else on the Tube did a tear down,and it is indeed an approximately .25 inch/6 mm thick maple cap(visible when the pickup cavity was revealed)My body appears to be a three piece mahogany,but the joints are so good it’s difficult to tell! All in all,my opinion ties with yours in every detail,and,incidentally,the setup was astounding,and it was almost perfectly in tune straight out of the box! Only small quibble-I’ve put a little felt pad on the end of the pickguard bracket bolt,as I felt there was a possibility for it to cause damage to the finish should too much pressure be accidentally applied to the guard. Other than a snobbery about the name,or a preference for the nitro finish,why anyone would buy a Gibson over this completely baffles me!🙄

I have a couple of HB guitars which I have been playing over the last few months. They are great guitars for the price you pay. I have recorded with them and the sound between them and a much more expensive guitar is negligible, and depends also on what equipment you use in conjunction with them.
I have the Roswell sc550. Similar tones. It's nice. No coil split though. Enjoying your content Jake.

I have always wanted to have a guitar to play around with and for $219 including shipping I just bought this exact model. I have to admit that when I opened the box my jaw hung open! It was like a 13 year old gazing at a naked woman for the first time! Is it as good as a Gibson? Of course not. But it's amazing for the price. They have been raising the price recently and with the popularity of these guitars the price probably will continue to rise.
Hi jake, received my 450 on Thursday, had a quick look, then put it in a padded gig bag and on a stand, went to play it on Sunday, and the neck is cracked from the nut to the tuners, I think the change in climate has cracked the plastic coating that the guitar is surrounded in, sending it back to thomann for a replacement as I really like the guitar, my guess that the wood has slightly moved and cracked at the nut.

been craving a les paul type guitar for a little while now. This looks amazing for the price! dont wanna spend the extra for a 550 II from HB as i wanna be able to use it just for home recording and to upgrade with some parts like wilkinson pickups and stuff from ebay for a fairly cheap price! Getting this one as soon as i get my refund from thomann from my fanfret 8 string in flip flop blue

I used to own an actual gibson LP custom from the 70s... Stunning guitar, incredible tone and intonation, and a neck to die for... but it cost me £500 second-hand from a dude in my local paper, and was bashed up to all hell... I've used epiphones that don't sound as good as this HB.
It has a maple cap, with a flame maple veneer. Looks great and sounds far better than any guitar at this price should!😎
I stand by my slightly weird belief that les pauls (and PRSs) are one of the few models that are defined by both their pickups and the wood they're made from. I have absolutely no evidence to back this up, but I'm happy to die on that hill 😂
@@peterclarke7240 My only disagreement would be the idea that few models are defined in this way🤔 I would say it's pretty much all of them! Also the neck / body join is a huge factor. Bolt on, set, or neck through construction all make for very different guitars.
I believe these are just rebranded corts. The headstock design is identical. Great guitars from what i hear.

@@JakeLeighGuitar So, My Harley Benton SC450 plus HB arrived today, was blown away by the build quality, no sharp frets, intenation needs a little tweak. Tuning pegs are nice and tight🤩 sure it’s not Gibson but i absolutely love this guitar! And for the money, well… it was money well spent 👍🏻
I brought a les paul epiphone years ago for about 8 hundred quid, why didn't i know about harley benton back then.

I have several harley benton guitars i have the sc450 like that one I have the DC 400 kind of a sg style and I have s620 Tb rock series with the floyd rose , my other guitars I have is a 93 Mexican strat a Wolfgang standard and a charvel san dimas ,the harley benton guitars I have are very very well made I've them for around 2.5yrs they are still holding up great playability they play great I mean they are not the quality of my charvel however they rank well above any guitar in their price, so if you would like to try one for the money they are great in my opinion, i live in splfd Missouri in the us and it only takes thoman 3 to 4 days to have a guitar at my door their customer service is superior , and they stand behind what they sell and will refund your money no questions if there is an issue ,when I ordered the DC 400 sg style guitar it had very small scratch on the back I called thoman they sent me another guitar and told me just to keep the other one I had ,I play my Hb guitars often and in my opinion you can't go wrong if you only have so much money to spend its the way to go for sure you won't be disappointed
Had one for a few weeks. Thought I'd give something this cheap a shot. I will not be buying a Gibson. I am completely satisfied with the 450.

sorry if you covered it. How is the neck profile? I had a 550 I loved but i didnt like how thin the neck was so I was looking at the 450s wondering if its a little bit rounder or thicker?

I will NEVER PAY GIBSON/FENDER 1000's for a guitar that plays the same as a Harley, Ibanez, Yamaha, so many other great guitar brands out there! Again, it all depends on the musician, if you can really play, thennu can play anything!🍺🤣👍

I’d play one at a gig because it’s cheap and good. Couldn’t bring myself to bring my Les Paul to a gig unless there was a proper stage and even then I’d prefer not to. I can’t justify replacing a 2.5k guitar.

Sounds like the nut is high,.. if you were actually in tune.
A lot of the guitar for the money I reckon, I think I would take the scratch plate off, and perhaps mismatch the knobs, just for the look of greeny moore.

@Jake Leigh Guitar Hi Jake my harley benton is taking shape, scratch plate off and I have replaced with miss match knobs, I will change the tuners with some grovers, I am keeping the pick ups, they are fine and sound alright.
ok yeah that sounds like the color is Lemon Drop. ----on the site i think the colors shown are wonky. honey looks like actual honey color on the edges but in reviews it's almost red. so it's kinda like UGH how do you pick a color based on inaccurate photos? so many beautiful guitars out there than to settle on one that the pic was off and you don't like it too much!

@@JakeLeighGuitar driving me NUTS! color can be really important to some, and when "blue" can be anything from super light pastel blue, to a pretty significant aqua blue............... ARGGGGGGGGH. (based on fender colors, sonic blue and... something green. beach green?) anyway, some sites are worse than others. but like... how do you skimp on that? it's literally displaying the one thing you do. -__-
@@JakeLeighGuitar You have to remember that what you see on a website is down to your monitor. It might not be the most accurate way to judge a colour. What you see on your computer and I see on mine, can be very different.
@@lurklingX yeah, Sonic Blue, Daphne Blue, Surf Green & Seafoam Green can change so much depending on the the camera, lighting, your monitor, so many variables! Have you ever bought anything that you’ve been really disappointed with because it wasn’t the colour you were hoping for? I had a Strat painted a few years ago, I really wanted Graffiti Yellow but there were just too many shades so I played it safe and went for Surf Green 😂
@@JakeLeighGuitar yes! just knowing i want something *specific* and the deviations not being to my liking... i would play it safe too. thing with the colors you mentioned - i know i want PALE. some pics show pale, some very very saturated.
you know how sometimes you have a very particular thing in mind? well, that's what it is for me. i want a pale strat style. maybe to relic. OR, a transparent green maple top. (green would screw me up if the pics show a bluish green and a yellowish green. because i don't like the slightly blue ones. usually people prefer one or the other.)

😂 my fav is lemon yellow, not schoolbus or taxi yellow. and it matters to me. took a while to track down that yellow les paul where the back wasn't reddish, and the yellow was bright enough. pics were.... not always super helpful.

I am removing my subscription because they have removed the comments I made concerning the SC-450 plus LH LD that was delivered to me for my birthday! Well the guitar came all busted up in the box. Talk about shitty Quality Control ! Now I am having a hard time with Thomann. They are pretty much blaming me for the condition of this Bloody Guitar!

Honestly you can see you kind of struggled to make it sound really good and even then it just sounded "good".
Certainly not bad at that price but if you want something really good I'd look elsewhere.
tbf he also played it just out of the box, I personnally own one and brought it to a luthier and he told me that the quality of the guitar is really good but the factory strings are terrible and it's not setup properly (string action, pickup height and co) so yeah this guitar requires some work before being really usable

Thomann didnt assist you with any refund? Ive been doing alot of research and I see you on other peoples videos... Im on forums and facebook groups for harley benton and people have always said Thomann has been good to them, living in seperate countries outside of GER as well... How was your customer service process...?
Regardless you likely spent less than 200 dollars. Can you even be mad at that price? And as the others said. The customer service is apparently excellent so did you call them?
