Props to you for actually explaining the internal mechanics of the connectors, not just saying "push it on and crimp it with the tool" like so many others. Your explanation finally clicked it for me. Well done
Bought the compression tool first then saw the video. I've changed co-ax plugs for years BUT! Virgin TV use the larger F type connectors as shown in the video so I bought some via E-bay as well as the tool. Followed the video and bingo! I was able to shorten the Virgin cable due to re-location of TV and now have a perfect picture as previously bought F type connectors were too small. Great video, informative and showed precisely the correct manner how to strip back modern co-ax cable in order to get perfect reception. Home d-i-y'er.
Excellent video. The roofers snipped my TV antenna wire and I need to do a repair. I got the tool kit off Amazon along with the male "joiners". I feel more confident crawling into the hot fiberglass filled attic. I'll be on my hands and knees. Thanks so much.
First rate demonstration, definitely a professional who not only articulates well but ensures that the video clearly displays the intent of each step. Like others who have commented about other DYI videos which were well intended but short on correct procedures, Vince's video is head and shoulders above. Well done!
I decided this time to make my own cable lengths, went to get some supplies and bought a Belden Coax F-Connector Installation kit. Was supposed to be an all-in-one. Instructions were useless (for a person being introduced to this) spent half a day going to the Belden web site (definitely for pros only). internet and you tube with no success. Your video was spot on for someone like me. Thanks
I know its 2-3 years ago, but this vid is very useful today especially as I have got the very same crimping tool before I watched your vid, thanks for all the tips, brilliant
Very good, very clear, thank you. You should be paid by all the people selling these on Amazon and e-Bay with no instructions! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I don't know when is the last time I watch you video, but i like those videos of yours and help me a lot too, and now I'm looking for RG6 and F-connector installation suddenly your video appeared and so with the same room. Thanks for the upload and knowledge sharing appreciated a lot. God Bless
That was the best explanation yet. When I was doing it for a wind turbine satellite in the blowing freezing rain in the black dark, by torch light. 😂 damn white bit kept breaking off. 😂
It is important to emphasize the need to prevent any of the braiding wires from touching the central connector. When you fold the wires back be sure to fold all of them. Even one small wire will cause a short.
I watched a couple of videos of yours, the other is about the RJ45 Cat6 and you make the best explanations comparing with videos from others. Great job and many thanks!
Good video and explanations on how to correctly settle the cable inside the F compression connector. Autofocus is sometimes not great (fuzzy image). Anyways, many thanks
Awesome vid, very detailed. Thank you so much! (I "liked" the video, just because you mentioned cutting the copper bit [I'm a girl-person, so thats the technical terminology 😁] at a 45° angle 😎 It's the little hints that impress me 👍) Edit: I've just gone through some of your other video content, you have gaming console hints and tips, internet stuff...good channel. I just bought a Nintendo Switch yesterday, who knows I might need to have a look if I run into any problems. I have all the other consoles too (PS3, PS4, PSP, PS Vita, Wii, Wii U, DS, 3DS XL, Xbox 360, Xbox 360 with Kinect, Xbox One - so let's see what tips you've got for them 😉) SUBSCRIBED...essentially - just because of the 45° angle tip. Heheheheh! Thanks Mate 🤗
Thank you for a detailed video. i bought a RCA kit with a crimp tool and 10 connectors, the instructions were incomplete at best. I expected the crimp tool pull the cable into the connector ... not so, you have to do the work on the front end.
Am I right to think if I purchase a tv Ariel extension kit it’s just a case of plugging it into the existing cable then into the tv or do I need to strip it?
Point to watch with a cheap non-adjustable tool like the one shown is it must have the correct fully closed distance for the compression connector used. It can sometimes be marked on the tool - mine's 21mm which seems to cover a lot of connectors including the Cabelcon CX3 sealed ones I wanted it for. It's the distance when compressed from the inner face that the core insulation has to be flush with to the far end of the connector, not the overall length including the nut. There are adjustable tools but they're around double the price of the fixed ones.
how did the cutter manage to cut the foil without touching the braid i cannot get this to work i am using white rg6 cable which seems less rigid than yours the cable sheath is twisting as i'm pushing the connector onto cable
I can tell the cable you have is a quality piece since there is copper foil, brad, center conductor bends easily. Can you tell me if that is standard where you are in England ??? Thanks for the 45 degree angle cut for easy insertion fella. I have not heard about using this technique anywhere except here on your UA-cam channel.
What connectors do you use and the stockist for them? Tried some "Blue Snap Seal Compression Type F Plug Connectors for RG6 WF100 Coax Cable" off Ebay and they just pulled off when tugged lightly.
Hi, the cables going into the back of my Sky Box were done vert badly, the F-Connectors are always falling off and the central conductor is cut too long. I was thinking of cutting new ends like you do here but I'm worried I don't have enough length in the cable to play with, i.e. if I cut off more of the cable then they won't reach the box. Is there any way to extend the length of the cable without messing the signal? Thanks
Bought one of these tools just from seeing this video. Odd thing is, looking online the cost of spare connectors is almost the same as buying new connectors and the two tools. Not found anyone selling just the connectors for a decent price.
Hi, when the copper core goes into the female F Type Socket then the f type socket pinches onto the sides of the copper core so the 45 degree angle just allows it into the socket a bit easier but the actual contact comes from the sides of the copper core. Thanks.
Very, very nice video. But I'm not sure about the removing the foil. As I can see you didn't answer to anyone who mention the foil. Is it all about the same, removing it or not? Did you maybe change your mind about it, in the meantime?
Hi Vince could you help I currently have two Sky boxes one in my room and one in my bedroom. I asked my cleaner to reorganise the bedroom but what I did not think about is the sky Ariel cable and now it's not long enough. I need another 5 meters is they anyway you could supply me with the extension I need I would be happy to pay via PayPal or bank transfer. I am not sure what I need but I see they is two cables so I would need to extend them both. Hope this makes sense and you can help I do not have a clue what to do regarding this it also is not an easy thing to put my bedroom back to the way it was as we have had an internal wall built for unsweet. So you're help is hugely appreciated. Thanks kind regards Leigh
Hi Vince! Great video mate, thank you. I'm looking for the same connectors and tools but for WF65 shotgun cable - are you able to recommend any? I'm finding them really hard to find as 99% of stuff is designed for RG59/6! (My understanding is that they are both different from WF65 but please correct me if I'm wrong.) Thanks again!
can anyone help me, is there voltage coming through setallite cables , I moved to a new home with cables everywere and my kids normally sometimes want to touch the cables , is it safe
The instructions for my DataShark (Stirling) compression tool explicitly instruct to NOT remove or fold back the inner foil. In terms of transmission line theory leaving the foil intact will present a more stable impedance through the connector.
Robstunner you don't need to take that most inner foil off, the foil is there to protect the dielectric and prevent any bleed through. I've installed tons of dishes and terminated tons of coax. Everything else in the video is spot on but removing the most inner foil around the dielectric is incorrect.
When crimping the plug on my coax able, the cable is just getting pushed back, instead of the device pushing the plug back on to my cable. I feel that it needs a crimper to prevent the coax wire from slipping back. I cant get it to work. Please help.
unfortunately the cheap tools advertised here (15-20$) available on amazon do not work (compression unsuccesful, the wire comes out easy afterwards). the only way not to throw money away is to buy a semi-pro compression tool, much more expensive (40-50$ range). at least your cables will last this way.
Props to you for actually explaining the internal mechanics of the connectors, not just saying "push it on and crimp it with the tool" like so many others. Your explanation finally clicked it for me. Well done

Great video! I watched about five others before I found yours and they all left me with questions. This gave a great explanation of everything!
Great video. Really helped me understand not only how to do each step but also why I was doing it.
Thanks for this, very easy to replicate on my own. good explanation about removing the foil which is the hardest part. THANK YOU
good demo and quality of detail video-ing. much appreciated Vince.
Very detailed and simple to follow 👍👍👍👍
Finally a good explanation! Thanks.
Thanks for the video. I couldn't see how to use these tools.
nice tutorial video thanks, got both tools + 20 connectors for £8 delivered from ebay.
link?
Can I ask what you put in ebay to get this kit ?

Thank you so much best video you explain it very well
Clear, informative, useful. Thank you
great video... the tools are cool 😎 thanks
Thanks for a wonderful detailed video, certainly it is helpful for me.and so, people want elecbee connectors or cables.why have a try?
Great Video helped fix a problem and save money too.

Thank you, very good video! Good man!
great video tks, salutes from monterrey mexico
Thanks for the video.
Excellent video, well explained and to the point. Thank you :))
Nice video 😊
Do you know if there is a tool to remove the compression connector instead of snipping the cable? Thanks
Very nice video ,tanks.

Very nice and helpful.By the way is it possible to fix the cable without any tool.?
I mean only using with cutting plier and a blade?.
Muy bien explicado. ..me gustó 💪👍👍👍
Great video, thank you for sharing.
Really useful it's work excellent thank you so much.
Well explained thanks
thanks for sharing the video :)
Great video. Is that tool work for bnc compresion connector?

well explained. nice video
Hi Mate ... when you cut the copper core to a 45 degree angle doesn't that reduce the size of the mating surface and as a result hurt the signal?
Hi, when the copper core goes into the female F Type Socket then the f type socket pinches onto the sides of the copper core so the 45 degree angle just allows it into the socket a bit easier but the actual contact comes from the sides of the copper core.

oh, now i get it ! Thanks.

Really helpful - thanks!
Is it possible to reuse these? Any video on this?
Question
I tried to do this just with basic pliers now I have no HDMI Signal, can it be I didn’t do it correctly
Great tutorial. Very well explained. Thanks!
Very very best video
Can the F plug be pulled off the cable and reused?
No

Hi what side are you using that on. Rg56? Only i have a similer tool but mine went straght though
very nice
Ace video, thanks.

he sorta destroyed the concept of the quad shielding
What if you didnt remove that foil to expose the dielectric? I did watched, and finished a DIY from another video where that wasnt mentioned :-/
Robstunner you don't need to take that most inner foil off, the foil is there to protect the dielectric and prevent any bleed through. I've installed tons of dishes and terminated tons of coax. thank you kind sir!
When will your eBay shop be open again?
Brilliant

Thanks!
The foil is not suppose to be removed it is suppose to be laped over tbe braids of wire.
That f-ing gold foil is a right bitch to get off! Yours peels off nice and easily, mine bunches up and messes up when I try to remove it. Any ideas?
No need to remove the foil
