This was such a fantastic video with so many useful tips that I'm definitely planning on using in my next cosplanning adventure.. I can't wait to see you work on this new project! For anyone interested in learning more about today's sponsor, that's me! I created Lumikha Cosplay Resale as a passion project, and have been working on it for the last two years. I hope you all will give it a try! 💖
@@SarahSpaceman just wanted to say that in case you havent heard of her Bernadette Banner has some tailoring info that may help you with the horse hair braid and flatlining type things... She also has a book out that may have the content you might like or find helpful
I just wanted to say you're quickly becoming my favorite cosplay UA-camr, and one of my favorite UA-camrs in general!! All of your videos are so informative but always entertaining, and I can tell you put a lot of work into them, one of the few channels where I can sit down and just binge your videos. love your channel
I will add, one important step between 2 and 3 is doing a must/can/may list. Write down the parts of the costume that ABSOLUTELY need to be done, then the parts that are important but not essential, then all that can be omitted. Then do the musts first. This is essential for me bc I always have little time and money so most of my cosplays go live w only the basics, and then add more details later on
As someone who’s only handmade cosplays through tutorials, I’m slowly grasping how to do everything from scratch. What’s nice is that I’m taking my first try and redoing it, allowing me to remember what I liked and what I want to change which provides me with some learning opportunities! This video is SUPER helpful for piecing those moments into a cohesive process, thank you for showing us this!!!
My sister had her Quince last year, and she had, and I’m guessing will forever keep, the most beautiful forest green dress and had a giant hoop skirt, I was the main chambalan and danced the waltz with her, the hoop skirt was huge so it was naturally difficult to dance around, and the fact she was wearing heels and I had to pick her up was challenging and caused her to step on the inside of the hoop skirt and trip during practice many time, but it was worth it seeing my sister enjoying herself and knowing that night was about her and her alone. I cried a lot that night since I’m very close with her and I was bawling when she and my mother danced since they’ve never had the best relationship but still love each other no matter what happens, so if any girls who are deciding whether or not to have a quince, you should, but make sure to save up, budget it, and plan, it’s extremely pricey and takes years to even save for it, but it’s worth it, it seems like one of the most memorable things to my sister so being apart of that just makes me happy (sorry for the long rant, the hoop skirt just reminded me of her dress lol)
I'm starting to plan a Puss in boots costume but with a Spanish Baroque styled outfit, this maybe my sign to start sketching. Also as someone who loves Romantism fashion and studies that, Regency, and Rococo fashion I'm so excited to hear the references and seeing Rebecca Edit: I'm nearly done making the doublet and sword, finish the hat and boots and it'll be ready to go
Nothing like opening up UA-cam for some background sound while you work and seeing four minute old content from your favorite UA-camr! You are so inspiring, thanks for the new content 💕
It was funny that you apologized for the math (because every seamstress hates doing math but damn we CAN do it because we have to) but I really appreciate that you showed in detail how you calculated your required yardage, etc. It’s SO important, and feels intimidating until you just do it! I’m new and I’ve been loving your videos lately ❤
:O You managed to get a call with Rebecca ^^. I love her work and it helps a lot seeing someone else plus sized do cosplay and explain how to make it look right
Not me exclaiming in delight to see you speaking with Rebecca! When you mentioned bonnet and historical fashion I knew this project was totally in her wheelhouse, so I think you spoke with one of the best creators to discuss this with, she's got so much knowledge with these types of gowns. Also, having a step-by-step on how you plan for a cosplay is a godsend treasure I'm gonna tuck away for later.
As someone who is absolutly horrible at planing, this is so helpful for me! Ur definitely my favorite cosplay UA-camr and ur content really helps me (as someone who wants to cosplay but has 0 knowledge of anything)
I can't wait to see the progress. I adore Sakizo's designs and I love how you're like it has a bonnet...I want a bonnet. Plus thank you for adding the Q&A with Lady Rebecca Fashions, I love seeing cosplayers cultivate this type of environment, we need to help and uplift each other.
Showing how to calculate yardage by the pattern was wicked cool! Thanks for that! I can't wait to see the final result. It's going to be totes adorbs (as my daughter says)
SCALLOPPED BONNET!! of course you were gonna do this one! Look at all those scallops! I'm barely into this video, but I know I'm going to love this finished work 🤣🥰
So excited to see a channel crossover with Lady Rebecca Fashions! I'm starting on a Princess Peach and a Princess Daisy cosplay soon, so this video is perfect timing and super helpful for planning😁
I know I’m late, and I know it’s highly unlikely that you’ll actually see this but one: your videos are helping me so so much, I’m making my Hoco skirt of my dress and this is gonna be my first big project! Second: would you be able to recommend any specific videos? It’s a mermaid skirt shape with a red over skirt that kinda look like scallops (I think that’s what they’re actually called-) and the skirt flair at the bottom has two-three different layers/tiers. The theme for Hoco is the 1970s, but as an emo who hates that much color and practices witchcraft I’m just doing the 1870s. Third: I absolutely love your work and look up to you, you’re a huge inspiration to me and I probably wouldn’t be so into cosplay and sewing projects if I hadn’t come across your page. Much appreciated and much love!!
This project is so exciting !! I love the fact you actually discussed about Historical fashion with an expert like Lady Rebecca despite not wanting to go fully historically accurate in the construction ! As I've never made ballgown, I hope the experience you'll go through with that cute strawberry dress will make up to it 🍓It's so entertaining to see you accomplish your projects and I hope your unfinished projects will see the outside world one day (that kinda motivates me to move my ass as well on those "dying to be finished" projects lmao)
I swear I had to sew orochimarus rope BY HAND (with no experience)and watching your videos really kept me going ( for those 2 days) ALSO funny that you made this video cause we are learning about romanticism in English THANK YOU FOR THE HEAD START!!!
Yes this was fantastic! And definitely no shame on using pieces you already had for the hoop and petticoat. I made one of those flounce historically inspired tiered cotton petticoats (with some crinoline for extra OOMPH) and it was.....a lot 😂 I love it to death now but gosh it was a lot of ruffling and hemming! If I wasn't competing in it I may have gone a different route. At least now I have it to use for future ball gowns
Laying out pattern pieces in adobe for yardage is peak genius. I've been laying things out on stash fabric or on a taped off rectangle on my cutting table. A related tip is to have a designated box/basket to keep all supplies for a project as you aquire them.
Oh this is so helpful, I’m planning a Céline cosplay from FE Engage and now I have. A way to go about it. A friend recommended your open front hoop skirt for it, which is how I found you, and boy am I glad you have the pattern up, even if I do still have to play around with it to get it the exact way I need. Honestly I rarely comment on videos but here we are, I felt you absolutely deserve to know how helpful you are to the cosplayers like me, who are starting to advance into more complicated homemade cosplays and need a little advice and a little confirmation that yes, it’s possible.
OH MY GOD! I'm so excited to see Lady Rebecca at Emerald City Comic Con! Your videos always make my day and I was saving watching this when I wasn't bogged down by work. Thank you so much and I send all the good vibes for your project
I FINALLY started my cosplay for summer, I'm making the Sumeru outfit Lisa from Genshin. As soon as the first leaks of her outfit came out, I started to draw out what layers are intact and what are individual pieces. My original plan was to make Lisa's standard outfit, but that plan got scrapped very quick😆 2 days ago I made the first pattern: shorts. I'm so happy I found the motivation to begin, I absolutely HATE patterning, they just don't compute in my brain. So what I did was trace a normal shorts pattern from a sewing magazine in my size and then begin modifying it. And I put pockets in it!! I was planning to start with a corset but tbh I'm quite terrified to make one for the first time😅 but in the end I just need to push myself to start and then it flows on from there, and I have your corset video to guide me!❤️ Your videos do wonders for my cosplay motivation😆 Can't wait to be The Electro Mommies with my friends as Ei and Yae Miko😍
I’m french but you really help me because i want to start making cosplay on my own and you make understand english words about making clothe or cosplay so your videos helps me in many ways, i want to say thank you so much for that 🥺
SO GOOD. I’ve literally never cared about making clothes or clothes in general but you make it look and sound so fun????? I’d try making stuff but I’m scared of being Dookie
Maybe you could make a pink edge on the scallops if the petticoat. Depends on how you want to finish them; a pink satin stitch edge finish if you are zig-zagging the edge. Or my quick and easy fabric paint trick; mark the cut line, fabric paint a border that goes past the cut line, once it’s dry cut the excess off - instant non-fray edge and a border pop of color.
AAAAAAAAA! THIS IS SO EXCITING!! REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT VIDEOS!! I discovered your channel a few weeks ago, and when I saw that you were going to work on Sakizo again, I legitimately screamed about it to my partners for a certain amount of time. I love Sakizo's work, and it's really cool seeing someone who makes content as good as yours taking on the endeavor! I hope it all goes well!
It's funny watching you use Illustrator for this because this is how I use Rhino 3D If you know a program well enough you can utilize it for all kinds of weird things. It's fun seeing someone do it with a different program And great vid always a fan of lists :)
I Wish Rebecca had also mentioned that LOCATION really mattered in historical fashion. 1880s Deep American south was vastly different from 1880s London. So when you're doing research make sure if it is in a time when the USA was more than just a fist of colonies to double check the versions. (French vs English can be an issue too but like no one cares as much about that in cosplay and that is fine.) It only matters when you're doing some research to know how to actually make the garments. We aren't going around and yelling at artists for inaccuracies obviously.
all of your videos are always so immensely helpful and i always end up learning new things i never would've expected in each one!! im so grateful that my gf started sending me your videos, they're such an excellent resource for creating things!! i also love your attitude that you don't Have to do The Most if you're not competing in it, it really helped me get out of my head on my own cosplay that i need a hoop skirt for and have just procrastinated on making a proper one for years. i may finally revisit that cosplay now!!
I recognize that Sailor Moon wrap cami shirt! 😊 You inspired me to work on making a dress shirt for myself. I can make skirts, but have never successfully finished a top that actually fits me. After watching you and other UA-camrs figure out how to make clothes and costumes that fit properly, I am trying again. I have already made a mock up in muslin and with my mom's help, have figured out where I need to alter the shirt so it flatters me. Thank you for sharing all your sewing tips and mistakes. It has given me confidence in my own sewing!🥰
Wow it’s so interesting you just announced your making this dress, I started working on the same Sakizou dress for a major historical project based on 1850’s dress, I had no idea you were planning to make it and now I’m super excited! I was inspired by the beaded strawberries on your Miku and have been attempting to make lots of strawberry for it (wow, the pain is unreal now I understand your pain! XD) It will be fascinating to see how you go about making it too ❤ hurray for strawberries! 🍓
When I was planning on Eclipsa Butterfly from Star Vs The Forces of Evil, I used the early Edwardian era as my reference, around 1903-1904 since they have long skirts (even for daywear) with trains and lots of volume and I will be using black silk for the petticoat frills and dust ruffles, purple velvet, black lace, and black organza for exterior, and neoprene as a lining to stabilize the velvet for the jacket. Im also using an actual Edwardian skirt pattern as a base but with a few modifications to create a really big hem while keeping the shape exactly the same above the knees because the skirt will be worn with a cotton and silk petticoat, a bustle pad, and my 1890s style corset since Mama (who is me btw) is too lazy to sew another corset from scratch again. I also have a jacket from when I made my Madame Red from Black Butler cosplay which has quite a dramatic back shape in the back and beautiful seam lines and I think it would work especially since I will be making a faux bustle that will go with it.
I just started getting into sewing and the amount of math in it honestly only makes me more interested. I love math because it's so useful and so I love any hobby that can require a lot of it.
i cannot wait for part 2 of this cosplay. ive never really been into sewing or cosplay but this is so fascinating to me and makes me want to create things. thank you for sharing !!!!!!!
I'm a newer subscriber, only a few weeks, but your videos continue to be so excellent and really make me nostalgic for cosplay youtube circa 10 years ago! Thanks for keeping that energy and resourcefulness alive and well in your content.
omg its so nice how all my favorite youtubers are connected. Lady Rebecca is such a nice creator. I love the way you planned this. And all the animations omg so cute!!! Really looking forward to the cosplay
my entier life revolves around planning no matter what I do , chores cook or experiment in my hobbies there is always a step by step plan In my head thats going on so this was a enjoyable video as always!
You allways give me so much motivation about cosplay making. I'm kinda lost at the moment, because i'm working on 2 cosplays right now and I kinda do anything but the parts of those cosplays, (other random props etc) but this video gave me the motivation to finally go back to those and kinda organise myself. Thank you so much.
Thank you for being you and communicating the way you do. You're chill, but not boring. Educational but not dry and ridged. Also, you don't over complicate things. I use to sew, lost touch with it, but am now inching back to it. But I want to do creative, colorful, fun fasion... I don't know much about cosplay or anime, but it's still cool. You go girl! ❤️🙌👏🌞🌠
Thank you so much for this!! I’m making a cosplay for Freminet from Genshin and I searched online for tutorials but I found none, so im going to do it completely from scratch, and all of your videos in general, especially this one, are going to be a big help!! I love your cosplays, and thank you for sharing them on UA-cam :3
This video has perfect timing!!!! I’m finally diving into my 2023 cosplans and honestly got so overwhelmed with ALL THE DECISIONS I needed to make so seeing how you break it down is very helpful!
I JUST found Aliexpress and I'm so glad I did, I get my hardware for purses sooooo much cheaper and it's saved me a lot of money. It is hard to narrow things down sometimes lol but totally worth looking into and NO ONE knows how to say Waywak lol
Would you ever wanna do the sakizo cherry pie walking dress or maybe the hydrangea dress? I love these videos and I love that you won the NCC and brought America into the competition! You very much are appreciated for all your hard work and dedication to the craft, your time and love for the pieces you make are amazing and have honestly gotten me back into sewing and wig styling again. ❤😊
You always explain so well, I love your videos so much ❤ I love this design so much and has mentally done planning for it since the moment she dropped the art (altough not sure I'll ever come around to actually making it) and I just LOVE seeing other cosplayers' approach to making a costume. I've always pictured doing my strawberries in velvet with little embroidery stitches for the seeds, and a very light flowy ivory muslin for the main dress, so seeing crocheted strawberries and pinkish ''dupe-ioni'' (totally stealing that btw XD) sounds so interesting!!! Very excited to follow this project
You're a god for drafting your own patterns... I've been making my own cosplays for years now and I'm still way too intimidated to try ToT Hope the making process isn't too crazy for the dress proper! Looking forward to seeing how it all turns out!
I don't even cosplay and don't plan on cosplaying anytime soon, but I love watching your videos because they are so aesthetic to me. Videography/editing really is powerful - even though your content is not THAT useful for me per se, I really enjoy how you "tell a story" through your videos. Keep going!
your videos are so helpful, the way you explain things and the visuals you make are so clear! im struggling a lot less with my fashion course after finding ur channel tysm ^_^
Thank you for making these videos. Even though I'm not interested in cosplaying (yes, who knows), but very interesting in sawing in general. Your explanation are very simple and visual drawing are the best. Right now I'm working on a dress for a ball and your videos kinda pushed me to do that!!
I've done a lot of pre-made hoopskirt modifications in my time for normal hoopskirts by lowering the waistband #1 thing I do to most hoopskirts to front opening or shortened hoopskirts. I haven't needed a full petticoat yet the last one I made was my Rose Quarts that had 9 visible skirt layers... this is the way for the future. lol
Oh I'm so excited to see this get made! I've been mass watching all your videos while making my own cosplays 🤣 I've been cosplaying for years but because of your videos my skill has increased significantly. I feel as if the stuff I'm sewing won't fall apart like always and looks 100x nicer than before 😳 Thank you so much for all the great tips 😢💖
I wish two things. 1: I wish I could super duper like your videos or something to get the algorithm to pay attention to how awesome your chanel is. 2: I wish I had friends. If I had friends I could share your videos and also help the algorithm in that way too.... Sadly all I can do is watch and rewatch your videos to support you and say THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR CONTENT!!!!
You could use interfacing instead of horse hair braid for the skirts. Since it's less stiff you shouldn't get the issue you were getting on miku but you will still have some of the effect you are looking for.
the production value on your videos is honestly insane! ive been watching you for a while now and i love your content! i dont even cosplay or know how to sew, but your videos are entertaining nonetheless. keep up the awesome work!!
This video was helpful to a degree (i admit I struggled with the math parts but that's probably because it isn't my project xD) I appreciate it. On a random note, I learned the name for that off shoulder collar thing is a bertha! Never would've figured that on my own.
I love how helpful your videos always are! Am I going to make a Sakizo? Probably not as I don't know if my skills are up to that level. But I learn so much from how you break things down and explain them in a way that makes it easy to understand.
You helped me gain motivation to work on a cosplay I need to finish, thank you! (I’m competing with it, and it must be 75% done by March 31st) I haven’t done too much yet, I need to work on it urgently. (Also if your curious, I’m re-creating Rui Kamishiro’s Wonder Halloween outfit)

If you know a program well enough you can utilize it for all kinds of weird things. It's fun seeing someone do it with a different program
And great vid always a fan of lists :)
I Wish Rebecca had also mentioned that LOCATION really mattered in historical fashion. 1880s Deep American south was vastly different from 1880s London. So when you're doing research make sure if it is in a time when the USA was more than just a fist of colonies to double check the versions. (French vs English can be an issue too but like no one cares as much about that in cosplay and that is fine.)
It only matters when you're doing some research to know how to actually make the garments.
I was wondering how to plan out huge projects, it always seems so daunting so this video is perfect 😍
Hi Lady Rebecca Fashions!!! I love all the helpful tips you've put in this video, I love making numbered lists too :)
Great video and full of good info as always! AND a guest spot by Rebecca!! Can't wait to see this come to life!
you are my main inspiration for sewing ^^
ANOTHER FABULOUSLY DETAILED COSPLAY!!!!! LETTTTSSSSS GOOOOOO SARAH!!!!!!!!!!
i cannot wait for part 2 of this cosplay. ive never really been into sewing or cosplay but this is so fascinating to me and makes me want to create things. thank you for sharing !!!!!!!
The level of info you put in your videos with the math and the info graphics is so so impressive!
Your videos are keeping me sane through all my sewing projects I have going on, I love it!
Yeey! An unexpected cameo from @ladyrebeccafashions
I love your mismatched socks and the cats
Also what an AWESOME SPONSOR!
Thank you so much for your interest!!! I hope you'll check us out 🥰💖
my entier life revolves around planning no matter what I do , chores cook or experiment in my hobbies there is always a step by step plan In my head thats going on
so this was a enjoyable video as always!
Now i finally feel like I have an idea as to where to start with my Sun and Moon cosplays
I don't need a hoop skirt and don't ever think I'll need one but the need to buy one is real. Also loved the cats not being shy of the camera.
I'm loving see this dress come together! It's going to be so beautiful! I have been enjoying watching all of your videos lately :D
That Princess Serenity costume and hair is gorgeous 😍 so cool
Thank you! The cosplay itself might not be finished but thats my favorite wig ive ever made :)
I can’t wait to watch all the progress videos for this next cosplay with popcorn and an icee like I’m at the movies
You're a god for drafting your own patterns... I've been making my own cosplays for years now and I'm still way too intimidated to try ToT Hope the making process isn't too crazy for the dress proper! Looking forward to seeing how it all turns out!
Oooo, just after I subbed and finished finally binging your Strawberry Miku series, A NEW UPLOAF! I’m so excited 💚💕
Hope you enjoy!
Thank you for teaching me about calculating the yards! Really helpful and moneysaving.
NEW SARAH SPACEMAN JUST DROPPED LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I don't even cosplay and don't plan on cosplaying anytime soon, but I love watching your videos because they are so aesthetic to me. Videography/editing really is powerful - even though your content is not THAT useful for me per se, I really enjoy how you "tell a story" through your videos. Keep going!
I love all the cats running around
this design is stunning you have such a good eye for beautiful dresses. Cant wait to see the final!!
The research interview bit was really cool! Loved learning a tidbit about the 1800s fashion eras!
your videos are so helpful, the way you explain things and the visuals you make are so clear! im struggling a lot less with my fashion course after finding ur channel tysm ^_^
Your graphics are 🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌
You're so awesome
Thank you for making these videos. Even though I'm not interested in cosplaying (yes, who knows), but very interesting in sawing in general. Your explanation are very simple and visual drawing are the best.
Right now I'm working on a dress for a ball and your videos kinda pushed me to do that!!
STILL SUCH A USEFUL VIDEO OMG I'm planning to do a cosplay of Tone Rions V4 and have no idea where to even begin, but this video is helping a bunch!!
I loved the way you use ilustrator for figuring out how much fabric to buy!! I struggle so much with this part, thank you for the tips 😄
You could use interfacing instead of horse hair braid for the skirts. Since it's less stiff you shouldn't get the issue you were getting on miku but you will still have some of the effect you are looking for.
wait why haven't I seen this video till now?! this is so helpful!
the production value on your videos is honestly insane! ive been watching you for a while now and i love your content! i dont even cosplay or know how to sew, but your videos are entertaining nonetheless. keep up the awesome work!!
Im SO HAPPY I know about Lumikha now I have way too many almost-finished cosplays that I know I'll never finish but I can't bring myself to pitch!
I love Lady Rebecca Fashions, she is so awesome! This video was fabulous, it makes me want to revisit Sakizo Cinderella that I started in 2020
we need more corsets!! im so excited!
I really admire you for all the attention to details you put on your cosplays, specially this one bc oh boi thats A LOT
