Actually, its the APFSDS round which is the armor penetrating round. The round basically went through the building without actually fragmenting, causing minimal structural damage since its a solid slug. The HEAT round, has a shaped charge at the tip. Hence, it exploded once it made contact to the wall of the building, causing actual structural damage.
@@babunzaho8244 Indeed it dose, HEAT is an HE shape charged round. A little bit more info is that shaped charge energy will go into the building much better than the APFSDS round witch over over penetrates, aka. goes through the building and cant deliver much of its energy int the building compared to the HEAT, but something like an HE or HESH will be the best at destroying soft targets
Either hes stupid, or he actually doesn't know what he's doing (No hate of course I enjoyed the video but it made me cringe) Edit: He most certainly has no fucking clue what he's doing "These are the HEAT armor penetrating rounds clearly" he says 3 seconds after switching away from the actual armor penetration shells.
Good news guys Bohemia already got back to me on twitter: 'Not sure if within scope, but forwarding this to our QA Lead to take into consideration. Thanks for sharing!'
+LuetinGaming Great! should definitely be addressed. Blastcore really helps to hide the building transitions too. I don't remember those huge chunks of wall flying off in vanilla. thanks for the vid
I know there is no music on the Intro I clearly forgot to add it in editing. If people just post comments repeating this I will remove them to avoid pointless spam.
I do hope that in the future of ArmA they will be able to add the level of detail to destruction Battlefield: Bad Company did so well. Ever shifting battlefields are lots of fun, even for such a tactical game as ArmA. Not talking storms and sand storms as you have in BF4 but more like, covers being destroyed by i.e a granade, tank shell and etc. As of right now the game only has fixed structure models. Good condition, half broken and leveled. Shooting a shell in one spot of a house won't create an open crater where the shell hit, only where the fixed model shows the crater. Then again, ArmA's engine is a strange one so who knows that Bohemia will do with it in the future :)
The destruction effects in Bad Company 2 looked great despite the destruction mechanics being extremely simple. Bohemia Interactive should copy this system for their future releases. The buildings on the maps in BC2 were all copy pasted just like in Arma 3 so it doesn't seem impossible to implement this into Arma. The destruction system in Arma 3 is terrible for a game released in 2013. I really hope Bohemia Interactive gets some serious competition in the future so that they stop being lazy with these essential details. Arma 3 felt very unfinished when it first came out. It was basically Arma 2 with better graphics but way too little gameplay improvements. I'm loving it now that they've added a bunch of new game mechanics.
That level of destruction in a game like Arma 3 is simply impossible. They simply do not have the money to provide destruction on that scope whilst also providing the combined arms gameplay Arma is known for.

@@Worse_Alex THAT IS LITERALLY NOT TRUE AND LITERALLY ABSOLUTELY NOT THE CASE! Can Arma 4 be like this but with stuff that we all like. And the buildings can be more destructable so like you can actually knock holes in walls instead of it being seprated into phases.
The Pawnee isn't actually that bad, not many people know how to use it properly; it's more of a scout chopper than a strafe runner. You are suppose to pop in and out of cover shooting at whatever you can, hence the small, highly agile setup of it. I'm personally a terrible pilot in ArmA so I don't do that, but my friend is pretty decent/amazing and can use it in the most effective way possible.
I'm very glad you did this video... That last mission when you sent the artillery was amazing, the effect on the ground must have been intense (without abusing Ares/Zeus)! Real Levelution!
Today checking out the destruction levels in ARMA 3, its great to have this but I think some of the weapons could use a tweak, 5 rounds from an RPG to destroy a wall? and how many from a Slammer? some tweaking needed from Bohemia PLZ
@Luetin, the reason why it takes longer to destroy things with the tanks is because they're setup for penetration.....hence armor piercing. If you use RHS tanks with the HE rounds they'll destroy much easier. Although after this recent update with random hit point crap who knows...

+Nathan “Poet” Parrish You may want to delete those repeated messages (I've also accidentally posted the same comment multiple times before) Btw, while yes proper HE rounds rather than the HEAP rounds, they still take an absolute beating, which just shouldn't happen considering it's still a tank shell against plaster and some brick.
both slammer rounds can penetrate armor. but the first rounds couldn't bring down the house because they were over penetrating and causing little structural damage. high explosive armor piercing is better used for light armor/buildings/dug in infantry
Awesome vids! I dont even play Arma but I still watch religiously. Once I can afford to build a decent desktop im looking to get into Arma as its right up my street! Cheers and keep the vids coming!
I miss playing Arma 3 so much. I've got to the point of not able to play it anymore due to my system specs. Also the destruction, don't remember walls fragmenting off in pieces.
This may have already been mentioned, not going to take the time to search for it. Those APDPS rounds are armor piercing. So the were actually going through the building. You get much better destruction results from the HE/antipersonnel rounds. The explode on impact rather than just busting through.
I think maybe some more gradual destruction could be good, rather than jumping from a couple of cracks to the half the building missing and it would make it much more noticeable as you don't need all the rockets in a squad to take chunks out of a building. One thing to note, you were using the slammer UP, which has a smallest caliber of the MBTs, 105mm compared to the 120mm on the standard version. Still, I think this only meant one or two extra shots, but thought I'd point it out. A single shell should certainly blow a hole in the wall of one of those houses.
I remember when I first started playing, the explosives made me mad in this game because of the lack of destruction. That, and I was upset there was no chance of cool things happening, like being ragdoll-thrown into the air, or being knocked unconcious by rubble/concussive effects..
Watching the Shacktac videos you can see some surprising effects of the destruction and also thing like people who stand up and fire after surviving an explosion of an entire building. Helicopters can destroy entire buildings and structures also.
It looks like the AP rounds don't do damage, but they go right through walls and kill everthing on their path. You can even kill soldiers and vehicles through whole buildings and it seems the buildings take no damage.
I've tested this as well with some tanks and there is a sort of trick... If you fire through the window like into the room of the house, it sometimes will blow it up with just 1 or 2 shots
Hey Luetin love all your Arma vids i just got an idea for your next Zeus mission i was wondering what you think of this idea. I was thinking that for your next Zeus mission it could be like a reinforcement mission where you create an AI battle between CSAT and NATO forces in a city but make the CSAT force slightly over power the NATO force and make the players have to come in and be the reinforcements for the NATO AI. I feel it would create a cool situation where players have to land in an all ready raging battle and quickly go in and help take out the CSAT force and take the objective what do you think?
Oh also.. Theres more explosion in zeus but i dont remember wheres is it.. Its called instant explosions.. It have Mk2 explosion and more AWSOME AND POWERFUL BOOM!
The RPG and Heat (tank) rounds won't destroy buildings because they're shaped charges designed to penetrate, not cause explosive damage. The mortar rounds are a lot more effective because they have huge concussion effect.
Perhaps it matters where you hit the building with subsequent hits? Much like in BF4 if you hit the same spot on a building the building won't come down. So if you hit the same spot with the tank shells you aren't actually "damaging" the structure much more than you already have. Whereas artillery is more likely to hit all structural zones at the same time. Maybe?
+Old Men Gaming Yeah, I think that might be it. Pumping the same wall full of armour piercing shells is unlikely to tear down a building. Try going for the corners.
