The Xbox Series X can indeed play 4K Blu-Ray's. Sam & Team, the launch PS3 models were 20GB & 60GB in 2006. 80GB did not come until late 2007. The 20GB PS3 was FULLY backward compatible as well making BOTH launch units capable of playing PS2 / PS1 games.
The PS3 was a great console, I'm sad that there are games from the console that it appears I'll never be able to replay, the 8 player co-op from Resistance 2 is something I'd love to play again but appears impossible to do now.
When the Wii released I was almost 10 years old. However, my parents had a baby (my youngest brother) in October and we're not quite "on their game" when it came time to hunt for the Wii. Christmas was ho-hum because that's all we wanted, but when Easter rolled around, we got the Wii (which was crazy because usually our biggest Easter basket gifts were DVDs). It was the most amazing, magical Easter of all time.
Guardians of the Galaxy is a surprise fun single player game that reminds me of the PS3/Xbox360 era. When devs made good single player experiences that would have plenty of fun times and surprises in store. More of this please.
As if I wouldn't already enjoy this show enough, Justin subliminally playing a Metroid clip in the background made me happy the whole episode. Quite possibly the first background item to rival Sam's pinball machines....Absolutely love this show! I worked at Gamestop during my college days when the Wii was brand new, and let me tell you, working retail at a video game store at that time was both so fun and so miserable to. But it was nice because I was able to lock in my Wii pretty easily because of that. I also got the rare 60GB PS3 used on an incredible sale and during Employee appreciation week when we got a big discount on used stuff. I bought the system and like four used games for like $170. One of those games, SAM, was Resistance, and that is the most underappreciated shooter series in Playstation history ;) But the Wii completely dominated most of my time. Hearing those games you mentioned really brought back some fun memories. And I had Rock Band on a 360. What a great era.
The Wii Shop Theme Song immediately transports me back to waking up on the couch at 3am after a college party and hearing the music loop as I get up and stumble to bed, wary of the hangover to come the following morning.
My launch system story..... I was so pumped for PS3 just in hopes of playing MGS4 one day. I got my ps3 launch day and I was in high school at the time. I skipped school using my grandpas truck and my grandma made me take her cell "just in case". So after buying this almost $700 system I was going home with going up the bridge to get on the highway and wouldn't you know it the truck stopped. So this is not a great part of town and here is like 16 year old me with a ps3 that were being delivered to stores in armored trucks. People literally were shot over this thing and me being a kid wasn't even thinking about my life I only thought about my system being stolen lol Then it hit me grandma saved me with the phone! So I get the phone and wouldn't you know its dead! So now I'm freaking out and I'm standing on the bridge and I see some old factory looking place in the distance. I wrap my ps3 in my jacket and ran my ass to the building which turned out to be a lumbering mill. They let me use a phone and I waited 2 hours but I was picked up by a cousin and made it home! It was a damn adventure lol.
The space monks? They’re talking about the iconic Gregorian chant like music all over that series. You guys would get that reference as soon as you boot up the menu for Halo CE and 2.
I didn't like how the PS3 looked but I liked it felt like an expensive piece of tech, and honestly, I really liked the UI way more than the PS4 UI. I was all in on xbox and so where my friends. But we all got the three rings of death. I got a replacement from MS after I sent mine. My friends said "fuck this shit" and transitioned over to the PS3. My uncle who fixes electronics had gotten a broken PS3 first gen and the client didn't want it back anymore. My uncle fixed it and gave it to me for my bday. So it all worked and it was for the best as I got the PS3 when all the really good Sony games were coming out later in its life span.
I think the game they're talking about at 43:40 is Infinite Undiscovery, published by Square-Enix/developed by Tri-Ace? I actually just pulled this off my shelf last week to attempt to play again, but haven't yet bc my massive backlog of games got in the way.

Gran Turismo doesn't surprise me at all. It's really big all over the world, especially Europe and Asia, not just a specific place. It was the best selling PlayStation franchise ever. I imagine that's probably GTA now because of the massive success of GTA5, idk though. Gran Turismo has no equal in racing games as far as physics, features(post launch), online, livery creation and of course, nostalgia. I was 7 when GT1 came out, and it was everything. It still has pretty good physics today.
For the 360, I made the decision that I would get one when I could walk into a store and see it on the shelf. I found one in a Target the spring after launch, caught my breath, and asked the clerk to fetch it for me along with Oblivion. I loved that 360... and its two warranty replacements.
Watching this more than a year later, but seeing Justin's face doing math in his head for about two minutes about Skyrim release was for sure a LMAO moment

Sam is mistaken. The 360 was hard to get at launch, I had one pre-ordered but the store didn't even get it until x-mas eve. I worked at gamestop when ps3 and wii launched. Wii's were impossible to get but PS3's were regularly in stock, even at launch we were rarely sold out of them.
Omg I share the exact same story with Justin at the exact same time. I kid you not. I drove a Honda and the window got stuck rolled down right around the launch of the Wii. And I lived in Utah at the time so it got pretty freaking cold. I was also the first person to wait outside of Walmart for the Wii launch. It didn’t take too long for people to follow suit. Eventually someone even brought a CRT television and an n64 and plugged them into the side of the Walmart and people were playing smash bros. Dude. It was cold. But man… that was a good time.
They did not came out with an AO rating for GTA San Andreas, what happened is that the copies that were already in stores, they put a AO sticker on top of the plastic wrap of the box. They did eventually re-released San Andreas with a M rating. I remember this cause it was weird.
Weren't the three FF13 games they announced back than - Final Fantasy XIII - Final Fantasy Versus XIII (which later became Final Fantasy XV) - Final Fantasy Agito XIII (was that a mobile game or did that become Type-0?) They were all part of this "Fabula Nova Crystallis" and share the same in-universe creation mythos. Although, when FFv13 became FF15, I think it got its own creation mythos.
Hooked my PS3 back up today because you cannot play any PS3 PSN games on PS4. I wanted to play Final Fantasy 6. Which I own on PS3 and is completely unavailable on PS4 or PS5. Many other games as well. Indies too.

I was very confused when Daemon was reading the list of best-selling games and he read "NCAA Football" at 1 and 2 as "Madden"... then he continued reading the list, when he came to the next NCAA football then he mentioned them not making it anymore lol --- Madden isn't even on this list haha
They did release a version of San Andreas with hot coffee removed with a M rating. So you were both right guys. Also chromehounds was a mech game with pretty cool online. There was a giant map and multiple factions all trying to capture it. The PS3 and 360 era both had weird things going on with them. The 360 not having a hard drive was such a stupid thing and my god the red ring of death was insane. I went thru 4 360s. Working at gamestop at the time I saw so many red ring xbox systems. I had one customer who went thru freaking 12 of them! I loved ps3 but the online was a bitch. My friends and I would either have to call each other to talk or usually we would get in a Xbox party chat while playing uncharted 2 multiplayer lol
One thing I thought worth mentioning about the PS3 what’s the black out. Also FF12 was not a good game. The entire battle system could be automated and the story you could tell once you played it that the MC was not the original intended MC. They actually added two characters to the story. A young man and a young woman. I thought the young man would be more appealing to the target market and if you played the game I’m sorry you just didn’t like him as a character. No the world of FF12 is phenomenal lots of legend lots of lore and a Final Fantasy enthusiast would love to go back to it in a different setting
The automated combat was great though. Really ahead of it’s time. I spent hours trying to find the best loop for grinding, made it oddly satisfying. Definitely better than grinding in earlier ff games. Story was too complicated for me as a kid though
3:48 Sony might have ended up selling slightly more PS3 than Microsoft did with the X360, but I think it's laughable how some gamers seem to think Sony "won" that console generation. Microsoft has 11 games on the 360 that sold over 10 million copies (currently tied with the Nintendo Switch for the first place in gaming consoles history), Nintendo has 9 games on Wii with 10+ M copies sold, and Sony only has 2 such games on the PS3 lol

i feel like the ps4 was the begining of the sony first party domination, not ps3. uncharted 3 and tlou but thats one studio, it wasn't till ps4 we got infamous second son, horizon, gow 2018, spiderman, tlou2, ghost tsushima. ps3 had nothing like the amount of studios producing that sort of first party super high quality games, with the exception of naughty dog.
Not even close. Uncharted 3? Try Uncharted 2 two years earlier. Infamous Second Son wasn't as good as Infamous 2. Killzone 2 was a big game on PS3 (certainly for the online multiplayer), God of War 3 was a fantastic game. Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time and LittleBigPlanet 1 and 2 were also really high quality and well reviewed/received games. Even if some of those games came out before some of those studios were officially acquired by Sony they weren't producing any other games of note that weren't PS exclusives so they were almost first party studios already.

One thing I thought worth mentioning about the PS3 what’s the black out.
Also FF12 was not a good game. The entire battle system could be automated and the story you could tell once you played it that the MC was not the original intended MC. They actually added two characters to the story. A young man and a young woman. I thought the young man would be more appealing to the target market and if you played the game I’m sorry you just didn’t like him as a character. No the world of FF12 is phenomenal lots of legend lots of lore and a Final Fantasy enthusiast would love to go back to it in a different setting
But do you think FF10 is better? I personally hate FF10 and find it hilarious everytime Mark and Tina praise it.
The automated combat was great though. Really ahead of it’s time. I spent hours trying to find the best loop for grinding, made it oddly satisfying. Definitely better than grinding in earlier ff games. Story was too complicated for me as a kid though
3:48 Sony might have ended up selling slightly more PS3 than Microsoft did with the X360, but I think it's laughable how some gamers seem to think Sony "won" that console generation. Microsoft has 11 games on the 360 that sold over 10 million copies (currently tied with the Nintendo Switch for the first place in gaming consoles history), Nintendo has 9 games on Wii with 10+ M copies sold, and Sony only has 2 such games on the PS3 lol

FF 6 is the best FF of all time; I can't wait for a remake. Now, this is just my opinion, but I must agree FF7 is the most overrated FF, but I've never played the remake, and before ppl cancel me, I did play the original
FF6 is tied for my favorite FF game. FF7 is great except for the ending.

i feel like the ps4 was the begining of the sony first party domination, not ps3. uncharted 3 and tlou but thats one studio, it wasn't till ps4 we got infamous second son, horizon, gow 2018, spiderman, tlou2, ghost tsushima. ps3 had nothing like the amount of studios producing that sort of first party super high quality games, with the exception of naughty dog.
Not even close. Uncharted 3? Try Uncharted 2 two years earlier. Infamous Second Son wasn't as good as Infamous 2. Killzone 2 was a big game on PS3 (certainly for the online multiplayer), God of War 3 was a fantastic game. Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time and LittleBigPlanet 1 and 2 were also really high quality and well reviewed/received games. Even if some of those games came out before some of those studios were officially acquired by Sony they weren't producing any other games of note that weren't PS exclusives so they were almost first party studios already.
