Another part of my childhood gone rip Geoffrey Hayes thanks for being part of my childhood such happy memories watch you zippy bungle and George my thoughts to your family
Rainbow was a huge part of my childhood. Geoffrey Hayes was brilliant - he was that trustworthy father-figure who lived with a hippo, a bear and a talking tangerine. It was great. (Sigh) TV for kids now is a crock of shit I'm sad to say.
It's odd to see him as a copper and speaking in his normal Stockport accent. I for one am so glad he gave it all up to do Rainbow. My childhood was brilliant with that TV show. Thanks Geoffrey. Sleep well now. Will miss you xxxx
Geoffrey, You were the best!, Back in 1983 when I was 6 years old, I used to love watching Rainbow and learning new things, You, Bungle and George were always so sensible whilst Zippy was naughty, rude and funny! Like the other comment said You were a great childhood legend and made many, many children smile and happy (including me) who always watched your TV children's show "Rainbow" Although Rainbow started back in September 1972, No one could present it like you did and I think that you did a truly fantastic job presenting Rainbow from sometime in 1973 to the end of 1991 when Rainbow was recorded for the very last time (sadly) Now a grown up man of 39 years old! (in 2016), Watching many episodes of Rainbow put a huge smile on my face! and brought back many happy memories from my childhood days of the early 1980's :-) God bless you and your family Geoffrey - You're the best and will never be forgotten.
As another child of '77 here, well said! They were great times and rewatching things like Rainbow and others (button moon!) keeps my spirits up! RIP Geoffrey, gone but never forgotten 🌈
@@skylined5534 Thanks John, Timeless memories of Geoffrey, George, Bungle and Zippy that I'll never forget ! Us 1970's babies were so lucky to be born when we were as we got to see Rainbow and also Sesame Street at their prime ! Rest In Peace Geoffrey - You were the best part of my childhood 👍👍👍
What a rarely humble man - a large part of my childhood has again been lost but thankfully we can see some episodes on UA-cam. He seemed like a very genuine and down-to-earth man. Rest in Peace old friend xx
This man inadvertently taught me patience, I have been tolerating Zippys and Bungles for years but Geoff would have sorted it by reading a story about Tat the cat. I hope he knew how much he meant to us little kids.
I love rainbow! ! Still do and still watch it most days on youtube , even most nights when I gave a beer !!! Bloody love it in fact . He and zippy shaped me to who I am today , helped me grow up , helped my attitude and my sense of humor. 🤗👍👍👍💛
Quite differeant to see him now when I was used to seeing him as a young man when I watched Zippy and the Rainbow when I was a tiny boy, now it's me that's a young man now
I think its a rather wonderful Epitaph - but not so surprising - that Geoffrey is such a decent and nice fella in real life. To see and hear him speak, really highlights for me why he was such a success presenting Rainbow, definitely one of the good guys. RIP Geoffrey.
I know everybody ages, but whilst doing Rainbow Geoffrey always looked and sounded like someone who would stay physically top-notch into his late age, but I am always saddened when I see and hear him these days... He seems to really struggle to talk, like he either had a stroke or throat cancer...or both. I would have hoped he'd sound exactly the same, like the way Murray Walker, Nicholas Parsons, and others, have done until very lately. I know he had a tough time after Rainbow workwise, but that doesn't seem to be enough to account for this. It makes me so sad. Tony Hart was similar... Of robust build, shall we say, certainly seemed to have a good stock of energy reserves, like he could easily manage a game of rugger if he ever fancied trying it. But yet later in life it's like a switch was flicked.
so sad " he was part of my children,s lives and mine " i loved it just as much as they did " especially naughty zippy!..i feel like bawling my eyes out" can,t believe how quickly life has gone by...goodbye Geoffrey" RIP.. you will be sadly missed " gone but not forgotten..
Old episodes of Z-Cars can have some surprising and indeed shocking moments. But nothing prepared me for the sight of Geoffrey Hayes propping himself up on a Ford Cortina outside a shabby pub. And smoking. Geoffrey from Rainbow - SMOKING. I'm 47 and felt my entire childhood had been a lie.
@@Spectrescup Yes, that's right. Booze addiction, with a less less successful life couldn't be relevant. A crappier job, after many years in TV, can't in any way relate to Rainbow actor, Geoffrey Hayes', older middle age life. Check your own ruddy non sequiturs.
*RIP Geoffrey. so sad he's no longer here* 😞
You can see how I'll he is in this video
I miss Geoffrey so much.

RIP Geoffrey, Rainbow was a huge part of my upbringing. The acting (and accent) in Z Cars was very good in my view!

So sad as to how unwell he looked there. 4 years ago.
