My cousin jeff zaun was one of the prisoners of war. I discovered that one of saddam hussein's generals layth muneer helped keep jeff and his pilot alive and safe for two days before they were taken custody by Iraqi police. They are good friends today. Not all of the Iraqi military were bad people I think everyone on both sides just had to do what they were told. I was 10 years old at the time and remember how traumatized I was watching it on t.v. I thank all of you who have served and those who have passed for my freedom and am very grateful for your service and sacrifice. May God bless you all ❤
i remember seeing this movie in 1991, almost right after the war; even as 13 year old who was fascinated and "trapped" by its messages, i always felt "this is too clean for a war", and my granddad (swiss vet of 2nd world war) started to educate me about war by giving me some books. my thoughts are with the veterans of the coalition of "desert storm"; especially those who suffered from the "new anti-c-warfare-pills", the "gulf war syndrom", and especially those with PTSD!
Pretty decent for a TV movie: quite a few stories from the '91 war that should have been told didn't make it into the movie, such as Spec.Melissa Rathbun-Nealy's POW experience, the A-10 drivers who killed 23 tanks in a single day supporting the Marine advance to Kuwait City, and the tank battle at 73 Easting...
I always had suspicions about how quickly they released this film. Trying to keep the positive vibes rolling, I guess. It wasn't all peaches and cream for all of us. For quite a few of us this war wasn't a glorious clean sweep as is so often portrayed by MSM.
There are people out there are gifted writers they just have that neck to take a new story and they know how to dramatize it's according to the laws of TV, they do some all nighters they invent characters in their head they take file footage they make characters they blend characters... Sometimes they'll come out with inaccurate or cheesy things but they are the ones that are first to the studio with the well-written draft they know what viewers want to see they appeal to corporate sponsors whose commercials will be run during that time... There's someone right now watching the news over the next big thing and they're going to make a screenplay about it
As much as I don't want to defend Bush, I think it was to promote a sense of togetherness; a country united for a trying time. He mentioned both Grant and Lee.

This and “The Finest Hour” are some of the movies to show the 1991 Gulf War in a positive light.

It’s never a glorious clean sweep. We did it but it was not easy. I was there. ❤
