You forgot to mention in the beginning that Gearbox worked on the ROR2 DLC, although not being the sole developers, they did provide a decent bit of the content.
Good point, I kinda lumped summed that one to hopoo since it seemed like it was mostly guided by their vision but credit where credit is due to gearbox
Large companies have this weird habit of looking at easy, long-term constant money generators and going "hmm, but what if we could risk ruining everything for a large temporary increase?"
I am just concerned if they know how to balance the game right. One of the new maps seen in the new DLC trailer was VERY vertical and while that is something new and innovative, it feels kinda wrong because most characters dont even have that much vertical mobility.
Idk if it’s that new, since Sundered Grove is pretty vertical in some areas, but like Grove, I bet it’ll have many paths upward or bounce pads that they just haven’t shown yet. (Some like to forget Grove has those though, so it’ll probably be one of the more divisive areas regardless.)
@@Maskeroff. Personally never had problems with Grove because it has like 3 "floors" with flat space and platforms if you feel like playing around them. The new map consists of only platforms and the island at the bottom as far as I rember.
i wouldn't call day & night "innovation" not because its a simple real life thing & in other games, but because its most likely came from the Stage Aesthetic mod. I love it when they take known, good mods and put it into the base game and even improving on them, so i hope they do it even more. (tho i don't like it when mods never get mentioned and it just feels stolen then in that way)
@@RematodeRangerfr, I would say this should especially be the case for Sky Islands since it’s the only stage 5 (for now?), then again, I’m not sure if Gearbox will touch base game content.
This is incredibly dishonest. You have 0 proof of them adding a mechanic as old as videogames themselves and calling it "stealing". That's ridiculous. That's like saying that Hopoo games stole Lunar items idea from classic rpgs
To say that I'm worried about RoR2 is an understatement, after what gearbox did with Borderlands 3 I am convinced they are incapable of understanding the depth of lore in games and they always try and pull this weird comedic twist on a rather harsh and unforgiving world, which can be seen again in the mobile version of the IPs cinematic [I know it's not the main game and it's just a spin off but it always seeps in from somewhere]. I really hope they work hard not only on the game itself but also on understanding the lore and community behind it.
While I really, really see what you mean regarding them doing things like adding more comedy than it should to things, and failing terribly like they did with the story of BL3, Risk Of Rain has always had some degree of comedy with the quirky texts and descriptions, but... yeah I've seen the mobile game trailer and it has gearbox written all over it.
Yeah, there's good humor, and then there's the Reddit-brained Marvel-tier quippy type of humor Gearbox seems to enjoy. Makes it hard to believe they take their development _or_ customers seriously at all.
On the other hand, though, Bl3 had the best post launch content in the series. Gearbox is not some hivemind. There are many different teams. And if we get somebody reasonable as a lead, it's entirely possible that new DLC(s?) will be great
Let's be honest. The Marvel movies were disastrous for the entertainment industry, and these issues would not even exist if not for those movies doing so well.
I think RoRR and RoR2 are safe from potential future problems and that's all I care about tbh. The former will probably be maintained by hopoo and won't likely even receive updates besides mod support and if gearbox decides to add microtransactions to the latter in an update they will have basically wasted all the money they spent on buying the IP as the backlash it would cause would probably be among the biggest video-game controversies. As for the future of the franchise I don't know and I don't care, I'm mainly a hopoo fan, not a risk of rain one. If the new games are good then cool, if not I still have returns and 2 to fall back on.
I have VERY much against gacha games. They’re pure evil. I’m sorry, you can’t be a parent in this day and age without knowing the extreme danger hiding behind this “benign” monetisation model. Not to mention the armies of “child psychologists” working in the industry to promote child spending, which is in itself horrifying… The whole “people can choose what to spend their money on” just doesn’t ring true if most “people” have no fully developed frontal cortex yet…

Consider this. How would you react if they said that most if not all profits feom the mobile gacha went back into developing the ip? Of course I doubt their intentions are nearly that pure but it is an interesting throught and explains some of the dichotemy of them being anounced at the same time.
The profits will be reinvested into what is most profitable. If the gacha does well, it's going to hog the development resources. This is why Destiny 2 keeps getting more expensive despite being a slow motion train wreck. Adding more stuff to the cash shop is just a better idea than fixing the game.
Sorry about the random drops in mic quality, my mic bugged out on my first recording pass so I had to splice in some edits afterwards. I have a very questionable recording space that takes ages to set up right in my closet so on my second recording sesh i think I didn't seal it properly. Anyway, hope yall enjoyed my ramblings regardless. Edit: Also wanted to add that I didn't know gearbox made a decent bit of the content for SOTV, my bad for not adding that in the video. Great to hear tho, hopefully that means they can take that experience with dlc development and apply it to their own solo dlc
Yes gearbox was making a lot of content for the survivors of the void dlc, but hopoo still owned the IP back then. They had the say on how things would go. Gearbox now at the helm causes a lot of concern from me
It's interesting to consider the older history of Gearbox when they worked with Valve on the Blue Shift and Opposing Forces expansions for the first Half-Life game. However, that was over 20 years ago at this point and their development processes have clearly changed to focus more on their original games like Borderlands. Maybe this is an attempt to go back to their roots of supporting already great IPs with just as quality additional content but that's up in the air. The one thing that I've seen in regards to the new RoR2 DLC that some people have questioned is how the lore was presented so directly, which is the opposite of what Risk of Rain's story has done before. I'm in the camp of concern about how the lore is implemented but at least the concepts and designs for the characters and visuals are fantastic. But at the end of the day, the mobile game is gonna fail because of the music like wtf was that trailer 😂😂
I totally forgot they worked on half-life, I was going off their og games like borderlands. But yeah hopefully they do return to their roots for sake of risk of rain. Also good point, one of the main reasons I like risk of rain lore so much is because of its ambiguity, I like games that let you make your own connections while guiding you along a broader narrative. And agreed rip Chris fr he was carrying
lets be honest the entire community collectively agrees hostile worlds doesnt exist i mean if you look it up and only the trailer pops up and even if you find a video it only has like 300 - 6k views oh and its hostile worlds not risk of rain: hostile worlds it is NOT part of risk of rain
The DLC is gonna be a rube goldberg spelunky path addition because it's predicated on the death of Mithrix. That's why it focused on lore, because all of the main bad guys are now one big giant unstoppable stone statue.
I think it's time to add further uncertainty now: Gearbox has apparrently been bought by take-two.. God forbid they lay their filthy hands on the devs of the dlc.
@@TheFrosif best outcome honestly is if take-two underestimates Risk of Rain 2 and lets it exist on it's own. But, considering how they were willing to send thugs after someone and mass DMCA strike, i have absolutely no idea what they'll do.
If the gacha game is a necessary evil for the Risk of Rain franchise to be the best it can be then so be it. There's plenty of gacha games out there already, if you don't like them, don't play them, simple. These developers for Seekers of the Storm seem like they themselves both play and love the Risk of Rain franchise so I believe it is in good hands. Despite seemingly similar gameplay, the mobile game and Risk of Rain 2 are still different games at the end of the day, content in one does not prevent content for the other. All of the Risk of Rain 2 survivors aren't even in the mobile game if you look at the character roles in the discord. Hostile Worlds and Risk of Rain 2 both have exclusive content. I believe the reason they're even making a gacha game so early is because it's much harder to monetize singleplayer/co-op games than regular multiplayer titles. No wonder they're gonna pump Hostile Worlds out for money if they're trying to keep that sort of stuff out of the main games.
I'm fine with the phone game as long as they dont get greedy with the actual games If they use the mobile game as the funds it could work out pretty well, remaining optimistic
im remaining optimistic. the new dlc looks fucking phenomenal, and the dlc looks insanely good. as for the mobile game, fristly this feels a bit like with mighty doom, where everyone looked kinda silly after it launched. not saying its gonna be great but just keep in mind that its not immediately joever. in addition the contextualization of gacha means the people who make it clearly care, the vast majority of gacha games dont put that effort in because they dont care. plus the gameplay itself looks solid with it being isometric ror. i dont think its remotely reasonable or fair to immediately say "its gonna be shit." because until we get it we wont know. its also more fun to remain optimistic than just immediately give up. even if the gacha isnt very good, we still get the dlc.
Hostile Worlds basically shattered the Thin Ice Grace I was giving Gearbox. If they hadnt announced Seekers of the Storm on stream, Id likely be doomposting about the death of my beloved IP.
The thing about Hostile worlds it being a gotcha game but could we potentially hundreds of new survivors I think bloating the main risk of rain two with that much new Contant would be a bad idea for you to make a valid point of why spend creative energy on a game instead of focusing on the main line franchise 😅 I’m also worried about the future if gearbox wants to stop solo for the first two games I can’t imagine what they’re trying to pull next we all know that popped u i’m also worried about the future if gearbox wants to cash hungry for the first two games I can’t imagine what they’re trying to pull next we all know some of you might know what happened with plants versus zombies two and they took a originally great game and filled it full of micro transactions took out so much of the soul 😢
Speaking as an ex-Destiny fan, I am more concerned than not over the future of RoR. That whole trailer for SotS just felt like a Bungie ViDoc. All the glamor and production making the DLC look better just to secure those purchases while the content itself is either bad or mid. Also, them saying that they have 5-10 years of content planned is a huge red flag for me. That's something directly from Bungie's book. It really makes me think they're going to take a "velocity over quality" approach like Bungie does. Or maybe it's a trauma response from their bullshit lmao
It was said that the mobile game was to fund the main games. Alsobit was gear box that didnt tell us shit about console SOTV. We got 1 actual update and a "surprise, the dlc is coming out with RORR." It felt like the dlc was a 2nd thought.
As a longtimes borderlands and seeing the "STRONGER! STRONGER!! STRONGER!!!" In a ror trailer made me groan a little bit but gonna cautiously optimistic
Literally struggling trying to 100% the original game so I can get into returns. These monster logs are such a pain. 😭 In any case thank you for your continued coverage of this series. I really hope that after this things start chugging along for both PC and console players as new content and updates roll out.
@@abra_escaped Trust me, I have been on that grind like it’s the only game I have. I need 4 more monster logs, and providence I know is gonna drive me bonkers. The RNG to get them is just absurd. And there are hardly any tutorials on how to make it easier. This almost ranks right up there with unlocking the hand cannon in RE 4 original. But I beat that regardless so I can beat this.
@@k90v85 sheesh you are telling me. Terrible RNG built in to farm for them but I said 100% so I’m not quitting. I already bought RoRR so that will be my prize when I finally get there.
Maybe this is just my interpretation but in the festival of gup seekers of the storm showcase, gearbox were talking about the lore and this girl mentioned mysterious space sickness as the reason the brothers could not leave the planet. I always read that part in the logs as just generic radiation and the vacuum of space like most creatures being unable to survive in. My concern is if they dig too deep into the lore to overcompinsate and lose the dark comedy the logs offer by trying to continue after the ambiguously funny cut-offs. I guess we'll see..
I'm pretty optimistic about the ror2 dlcs but skeptical of any other projects. One thing I am hopeful for is that Gearbox may be willing to do something that Hopoo said wasn't gonna happen if they kept going with the IP: The return of other ror1 characters that haven't been officially added to ror2, namely CHEF, Enforcer, HAN-D, and Miner. Hopoo's apparent reasoning was they don't wanna throw away the community's mod work, but that always ignored console players with no mod access and the fact that the mods utilize the 2-D kits from ror1 in the 3-D space of ror2, which doesn't always translate well. I'm hoping they focus on adding more ror1 survivors along with new ones, and maybe Drifter and Pilot from Returns, and leave Hostile Worlds survivors till later if ever.
While yes I believe there was thought of money behind risk of rain hostile worlds. I think the main purpose is to put risk of rain in more people's eyes to get a bigger and better following. All three ror games are amazing but pretty underrated or overlooked. Obviously they need to get a bigger following for the game to keep it moving, and that's what the mobile game is for. If people see and like the mobile game they'll definitely like the games before it, and ofc they have to make some money off of it.
I just have to say it, you cant praise hopoo and trash gearbox for the future of ror. Hopoo left they are the reason gearbox owns it now, yes the mobile game is sketchy but hopoo didnt have to sell, and are not this amazing studio that cares about its community. This was the first opportunity they had to sell and took it. Gearbox may bury us but hopoo dug the grave.
With some more images coming from hostile worlds I can say with full confidence that it is soulless. Character designs except a few like technomancer look garbage simply said it. Even field doc just looks like it's riffing on the glass dome helmet with the sole intention to riff on the classic commando look without putting any care into it hy having the bloody goggles outside of the helmet. Anyway check out the other designs you'll be shocked that characters like rocketman exist
It’s kinda hard to judge these things… on one side, a company is still a company and they need money. So, although bad, the mobile game will make sure risk of rain as an IP can continue to grow and, hopefully, they’ll use this money with care and not greed for more
Seekers of the Storm is still very promising, and i quite like all of the dev thoughts for that And i don't think the new gacha game for ror is the main focus
Normally my reaction to seeing gearbox would be one of concern. However, given how amazing risk of rain returns came out. I don't think I'm too worried.
Great video! I just have one response to add based off of your take that the mobile game having exclusive units could possibly be harmful to the IP due to them being payed only. I agree that greedy micro transactions and gaccha are generally bad as well, however just because the mobile game gets unique units and variety means its taking away something as a whole. Risk of rain 2 and the mobile game will most likely play very differently, and due to that it is not very fair to say that exclusive units take away the possibility for them to be added in ror2, because they might not be a good fit in general or be what the devs want. After all these are two seperate teams here. However it could inspire hopoo to add cool new survivors in the future. Anyway I liked your video regardless and I will say sometimes gaccha games can be genuinely good and fun to play even without spending a dollar. (The Battle Cats for example).
I’m cautiously optimistic for the future of the series. The mobile game was expected for me and the dlc is fine. Hopefully the dlc is more representative of series than the generic mobile game though.
Apparrently according to the community manager on a livestream, Hopoo still influenced parts of the DLC's development, likely nudging some things in certain directions. I will say though: with the Dev Diary spilling hefty amounts of lore, i think after the huge delay of absolutely nothing happening, that they're trying to show that they understand and value the lore. Which they've certainly succeeded in, as the DLC looks like a double legacy: the legacy of Hopoo Games continued by the unnamed team in Gearbox, and the legacy of the two brothers continued by those that still live. (I still hate how we don't have a name for the gearbox team. Out-of-touch higher-ups in the company could meddle with the team and insert their own goals without us telling where the corruption is.)
Dunno how I feel about the "LoREmaStEr" thing, honestly. I hope they don't mean it's just one person deciding the entire lore for the franchise, rather, just a spokesperson for the creative department. Also, I feel worried about a team that isn't Hopoo writing lore for the franchise at all. Especially since they all appear to be... "unique" individuals (if the dyed hair wasn't enough of a hint). Hopefully, Hopoo left them some sort of lore guidelines to follow.
@@bugjamsThat's just given at this point. Diversity hires have been a thing for a while now. Though, since this a smaller IP, chances are that the team will have more creative control, and less meddling from narcissists
conspiracy time, I think its more like they purchase the IP so they can create something else like the mobile version one. And also probably the risk of rain 2 is more like the development team is from gearbox however they are supervised by the dev from the Hopoo games itself, so the contents of the dlc are in sync with the original lore itself(probably similar how nintendo handles smash bros, by letting sakurai handles most of the supervision for the creation of super smash bros). Nevertheless its all just plain guessing without prove. But I do really hope that the newest dlc that came out will be great also. hopefully(with jokes intended), the risk of rain hostile worlds is just a way for the dev to gain money so they can boost the production of the dlc further, polishing to be one of the greatest dlc created.
I want to point out that the content in Survivors of the Void was a collaboration between Hopoo and Gearbox. in fact, Gearbox had developed a large portion of said content, the maps most notably. that was probably the best way to see what Gearbox could do with the series, instead of blindly selling off the IP. let's see what they can do without Hopoo's creative influence
I played Hostile Worlds and as far as the current version can go it has no problem on the monetization (yet) it's quite friendly towards F2P and P2P as of current situation goes, though, sometimes Westerners should understand that some monetization formula works on this side of the country and doesn't on the other side, take southeast asia for example, due to harsh cost of living, sometimes you just want to play some games without having to buy anything due to as I said "cost of living" Though one thing should remain clear, "If people doesn't like the product, they don't have to be oblige to take part to it"
Personally I would have preferred if hostile worlds would’ve been a fully fleshed out Pc/console game with a one time Fee cause gacha elements aside the game sound’s actually really fun
I agree with pretty much everything except the new survivors for the mobile game issue, i actually think its better there is at least some new stuff they are adding, plus i dont need there to be the exact same survivors across all 4 games
The + about the gacha game is that they'll likely release a lot of new survivor and/or abilities which can be added through mods. Thats only nice for pc players tho
Honestly, I think even if Gearbox were to go full greed and even go as far as stopping development on Risk of Rain 2 and Returns entirely at some point and make the mobile game monetization hell... I don't think they can actually Ruin the IP? Or at least, they wouldn't be able to do anything particularly terrible that the community wouldn't be able to just ignore anyways. I mean, unless they directly attack the community and modders and stuff, the games are kinda set up perfectly to just avoid anything too terrible. Most realistic worst case scenario we'd just kinda be going back to just making mods for each other to play with and expanding the world and story on our own with Gearbox off in the corner trying to entice us over with treats that none of us particularly care for, and if they do come up with something good actually passionate people Will figure out how to translate it to RoR2 and RoRR. We'd still have passionate and talented people putting their hearts and souls into the game, just in an unofficial capacity instead. Best case though? Gearbox's team seems actually passionate, they do good with it and make good content the community loves and can further expand upon, and Hostile Worlds ends up being an actually pretty cool side game that's worth the time and lets you get everything decently without paying money. As much as I hate gacha games in general, there are well constructed ones that can be fun and relatively unobtrusive about everything. Really, I can only see things going annoying but otherwise okay or Actively Really Good.
Honestly, if they don''t make cashgrabs out of the regular games and just use the gachas for that I'm ok, they have to make money somehow with the IP and it's better if they do it with isolated mobile gacha games
I think people are dooming a little too hard about the franchise at the moment. Gearbox had a large hand in SOTV and returns which are both amazing in their own right, so personally I trust them to continue the franchise somewhat well (especially with all the talk they've done about the lore in their recent releases, as someone of who loves the lore of this franchise it's relieving to know they very much know their stuff). The mobile game looks decent for a mobile game (low bar, I know), but I'm not a big fan of it at all. Atleast it isn't being made by gearbox themselves. I think mainly the only real change is that risk of rain is gonna be treated like an actual IP and not just an indie game, and it doesn't warrant a lot of the doomed reactions I've been seeing.
I dont really care for the mobile game tbh, as long as it doesnt affect the main franchise and developers then I'll be fine. Will give it a go, see if i like it or not, and go on looking forward to the next dlc
I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt. If only for a bit. The mobile game announcement made me cringe, but everything regarding the upcoming DLC looks fantastic. GB can do whatever they want with spin offs, just don’t screw up the mainline. And hell, I’ll probably end up checking out the mobile game anyway. Morbid curiosity and all.
What I'm mostly upset about regarding this whole thing is that the first truly original thing- not a dlc or story thing or bug fix or port -was a fucking mobile gacha game. The first new game of the IP and the living greasetrap of Randy went "hmm yes we need more money". No hate on the devs, and I appreciate that it's a completely separate team from the seekers devs, but c'mon. You cannot tell me that doesn't make one hella skeptical. Another thing about it is that of the 2 big announcements for festival of gup, the gacha game was the one that got accidentally posted early. Imagine how different things would've been had seekers been accidentally posted first. I'd say there would be a lot less worry and skepticism. All in all though, I'm cautiously optimistic. As you said, all the stuff we've seen so far for Seekers seems pretty good, but I'm just worried greasy randy may ruin things for good.
i'm sure that they don't have this intention, but i know i share this sentiment with others. in a way, i see them making this mobile gacha game as a way for them to feed that money back into development of main franchise installments - as much as it feels like a blatant cash grab (and chances are it probably is), i hope that as a result of that extra monetary gain the risk of rain franchise can continue into the future in a positive light; i love ror with all my heart, all i hope for is that gearbox treats the game and its fanbase with respect and care.
Yeah, that mobile game is not gonna play anything like ror2, its a pokemon rumble style gameplay type. Mobile games wise theres basically only gacha moneyfarm for monitizing something you wanna keep running. A whole new dev team for it and its basically like one of 800 pokemon spinoff games
i hope gearbox doesnt just turn it into a giant cash-grab, i recently got into it, buying rorr when it was on sale and im planning on buying ror2 soon. but i guess only time will tell
The new survivors in the gacha game aren't "exclusive" they are just playtesting them first in a guinea pig game before transitioning those new survivors in the mainlike ror, at least i think so.

Thing is the best stage 1 is distant roost that has a good bit of verticality. The vents were there though so maybe the add some stuff
i wouldn't call day & night "innovation" not because its a simple real life thing & in other games, but because its most likely came from the Stage Aesthetic mod. I love it when they take known, good mods and put it into the base game and even improving on them, so i hope they do it even more. (tho i don't like it when mods never get mentioned and it just feels stolen then in that way)
I hope this makes it to other stages too, major stage variants of the first stages exist, but arent present for any others.
I doubt something as common in games as a day and night cycle was stolen from a mod.
@@broom673yep.
I mean, Borderlands 3 does show that they can at least make good gameplay and from my experience I don't think the story is the focus of RoR.
Not to mention the armies of “child psychologists” working in the industry to promote child spending, which is in itself horrifying… The whole “people can choose what to spend their money on” just doesn’t ring true if most “people” have no fully developed frontal cortex yet…
will this whole child exploitation apply to the more adult centric Persona 5 X? or will it still matter?
@@hgmd3284As a long time Persona & SMT fan, Persona 5 X looks to be no different. Sorry man, but Persona is absolutely NOT adult centric.
@@hgmd3284 it will matter to a lesser degree, if only adults are involved, in my opinion. Gets more in the neighbourhood of gambling law. Which is up to nations to enforce and regulate, as far as I’m concerned. Plus adults have the freedom to destroy their own lives as they see fit. Where it involves games, it will be pretty hard to convince me that no children are involved and that the game companies aren’t actually focussing on child exploitation still. Even if the game’s content LOOKS more adult oriented, often a large part of their consumer base is still
@@CoenBijpost i wonder why that is?
I have a feeling it’s going to swing face first right into “live service” and promptly fall into the graveyard. A “5+ year plan” screams live service to me, and that’s not good.
I only watched the trailer so i thought it was providence coming back for round 2
Adding more stuff to the cash shop is just a better idea than fixing the game.
ror 2 enjoyers when almost a year without updates:
Sorry about the random drops in mic quality, my mic bugged out on my first recording pass so I had to splice in some edits afterwards. I have a very questionable recording space that takes ages to set up right in my closet so on my second recording sesh i think I didn't seal it properly. Anyway, hope yall enjoyed my ramblings regardless.
Edit: Also wanted to add that I didn't know gearbox made a decent bit of the content for SOTV, my bad for not adding that in the video. Great to hear tho, hopefully that means they can take that experience with dlc development and apply it to their own solo dlc
Don't worry about it dude I didn't even notice it. 👍
@@BetaSol yeah i didn't notice anything either lol
And agreed rip Chris fr he was carrying
lets be honest the entire community collectively agrees hostile worlds doesnt exist i mean if you look it up and only the trailer pops up and even if you find a video it only has like 300 - 6k views
oh and its hostile worlds not risk of rain: hostile worlds it is NOT part of risk of rain
The DLC is gonna be a rube goldberg spelunky path addition because it's predicated on the death of Mithrix. That's why it focused on lore, because all of the main bad guys are now one big giant unstoppable stone statue.
Loaders grapple is so fast now I hope they leave it alone lmao
Anyone that’s heard of Gearbox has heard of Randy Pitchford. That was enough for me to doubt RoR would be in good hands.
I think it's time to add further uncertainty now: Gearbox has apparrently been bought by take-two..
God forbid they lay their filthy hands on the devs of the dlc.
I honestly don't know if this is worse or better than bring under embracer 😭
I'm fine with the phone game as long as they dont get greedy with the actual games
If they use the mobile game as the funds it could work out pretty well, remaining optimistic
im remaining optimistic. the new dlc looks fucking phenomenal, and the dlc looks insanely good. as for the mobile game, fristly this feels a bit like with mighty doom, where everyone looked kinda silly after it launched. not saying its gonna be great but just keep in mind that its not immediately joever. in addition the contextualization of gacha means the people who make it clearly care, the vast majority of gacha games dont put that effort in because they dont care. plus the gameplay itself looks solid with it being isometric ror. i dont think its remotely reasonable or fair to immediately say "its gonna be shit." because until we get it we wont know. its also more fun to remain optimistic than just immediately give up. even if the gacha isnt very good, we still get the dlc.
Hostile Worlds basically shattered the Thin Ice Grace I was giving Gearbox. If they hadnt announced Seekers of the Storm on stream, Id likely be doomposting about the death of my beloved IP.
If this game keeps execs happy, allowing ror content to continue, then I will happily welcome it into the franchise
Also guessing Chris Christodoulou didn’t want anything to do with the mobile game which is funny to me.
I really dont think youd want hostile worlds exclusive survivors in ror2. There are two characters called Turret and Machine, enough said
i'm worried for the future of ROR because of gearboxes past and how they will be directing the content in hopoo's place.
It was said that the mobile game was to fund the main games. Alsobit was gear box that didnt tell us shit about console SOTV. We got 1 actual update and a "surprise, the dlc is coming out with RORR." It felt like the dlc was a 2nd thought.
I’m optimistic because I adore this franchise, which will make it so much more crushing if they do fuck it up
As a longtimes borderlands and seeing the "STRONGER! STRONGER!! STRONGER!!!" In a ror trailer made me groan a little bit but gonna cautiously optimistic
Always a great time you upload man
The next updates and future i feel like probably locked on dlcs on RoR2, hopefully i am wromg
Literally struggling trying to 100% the original game so I can get into returns. These monster logs are such a pain. 😭
In any case thank you for your continued coverage of this series. I really hope that after this things start chugging along for both PC and console players as new content and updates roll out.
Holding out on Returns until 100%ing ror1 is some major dedication. Good luck and I promise you'll love rorr!
But I beat that regardless so I can beat this.
ror1 logs hurt

Gonna have to rename the hopoo feather to gearbox feather
5:58 tbf if they dont add them some modder will probs add them in game kinda like the ror1 guys
5 minutes stage one he is actually throwing. Happy to se an upload. It was really good timing.
Truely I have defied the great words of woolie 😔😔
It’s kinda hard to judge these things… on one side, a company is still a company and they need money. So, although bad, the mobile game will make sure risk of rain as an IP can continue to grow and, hopefully, they’ll use this money with care and not greed for more
I think the one good ting that can come out of this exchange is that now hopoo games is probably gonna come out with a new ip which is cool.
I can't wait to pull for 5 copy of ATG missiles for my lv 100 commando
The garbox team did like ,half of the SOTV stuff, so as long as its that same department itll be fine for a while.
The second they add pay walled characters and content that’s not a DLC is the second I start modding in all the new stuff.
Seekers of the Storm is still very promising, and i quite like all of the dev thoughts for that
And i don't think the new gacha game for ror is the main focus
survivors of the void DLC was also a join development from gearbox and hopoo games. Gearbox made most of the new stages and the void jailers
The stages are one of my favorite parts about the dlc. The best being the absolutely killer music. Chris just doesn’t miss.
They should rework the gotcha mechanic.
Paid dlc , for map and 3 surviviours.
The gotcha mechanic should be for skin characters.
I hope that cloaked purple guy from hostile worlds gets into the new dlc, he looks sick
I hope this game doesnt lose its way like borderlands
Normally my reaction to seeing gearbox would be one of concern. However, given how amazing risk of rain returns came out. I don't think I'm too worried.
Honestly I don't mind Hostile Worlds, I'll probably play it every now and then
Great video!
What i think is that maybe they are making hostile world for money indeed but then invest it into ror main line content
Though, since this a smaller IP, chances are that the team will have more creative control, and less meddling from narcissists
most likely the mobile game going to be souless gatcha but new content for ror2 seems like it's going to be good
conspiracy time, I think its more like they purchase the IP so they can create something else like the mobile version one.
I played Hostile Worlds and as far as the current version can go it has no problem on the monetization (yet) it's quite friendly towards F2P and P2P as of current situation goes, though, sometimes Westerners should understand that some monetization formula works on this side of the country and doesn't on the other side, take southeast asia for example, due to harsh cost of living, sometimes you just want to play some games without having to buy anything due to as I said "cost of living"
Though one thing should remain clear, "If people doesn't like the product, they don't have to be oblige to take part to it"
Personally I would have preferred if hostile worlds would’ve been a fully fleshed out Pc/console game with a one time Fee cause gacha elements aside the game sound’s actually really fun
I agree with pretty much everything except the new survivors for the mobile game issue, i actually think its better there is at least some new stuff they are adding, plus i dont need there to be the exact same survivors across all 4 games
Gearbox:we made new dlc for ror2...
i:yes it s cool
Gearbox:.... and we making gacha game of ror
I:oh NOOOOOO(genshin flashbaks)
Tbh i could not care less that hostile worlds is gonna be a gacha, it'sy favorite game coming to my phone.
I was worried bout these deals but I'll give the gearbox the benefit of the doubt.
Gearbox supposedly came up with Collapse.
I am less worried.
gearbox cooking with those new stages tho
Vote with your wallet people, not hard.
One thing you didn't mention is that gearbox is the ones that did most of the work for sotv
Added an amendment to my comment for that
Gearbox helped make the entire Survivors of the Void DLC
They love the series
I like to think that they did the mobile game to fund other dlc and stuff ror related
Honestly, if they don''t make cashgrabs out of the regular games and just use the gachas for that I'm ok, they have to make money somehow with the IP and it's better if they do it with isolated mobile gacha games
As soon as I heard "A movile game" I knew risk of rain jumped the shark...
Im just happy console versions are fixed
You NEED more subs man, good vids
the pitchford reaper is coming…
The only thing i hope hoppo games can do with ror2 is add crossplay.
I have faith they'll do it right...
I just want a sequel to Deadbolt
I think risk of rain 2 is going to be okay as for any future games no clue
I doubt anything bad will happen gearbox top games has a lot of games honestly
Tbh I really hope we get cross play across consoles. Like it’s both console it’s not like console an pc it wouldn’t be that hard right?
i'm sure that they don't have this intention, but i know i share this sentiment with others.
in a way, i see them making this mobile gacha game as a way for them to feed that money back into development of main franchise installments - as much as it feels like a blatant cash grab (and chances are it probably is), i hope that as a result of that extra monetary gain the risk of rain franchise can continue into the future in a positive light; i love ror with all my heart, all i hope for is that gearbox treats the game and its fanbase with respect and care.
I’m still gonna play that mobile game, as disappointing as it being a mobile game sounds, but I won’t spend any money, probably…
