    I just received my set, and it's not true to size. My pups size is 3"wide. But the boot was way over 3" almost 1/2 size over, and the boot felt like it was siding off. I tighten the straps even more, but after his 2nd trip? Yeah, I'm returning them the next day. Now I'm thinking of buying them again with a smaller size for the right fit. But maybe going in a different direction. I don't care about the price. I just want a boot for my 10 year fur baby that will be completely comfortable and will be protected of allergies and stubbing his 🐾 on rocks when we trail walk. Can you recommend a company or a boot that will have a premium fit with quality?
    Thank you again.

      Check out Ruffwear. I use their jacket/coats for winter and have been happy with them. They have a variety of shoes that are reportedly very well made and durable. I personally do not have experience with them but that would be the route I would go with if I needed dog boots at this point.

    Hi, I was wondering if you found a better alternative. I am just curious because dog shoes are generally really expensive so quality is really important.

    • @AndrewRockYoutube
      @AndrewRockYoutube  Рік тому

      Thanks for asking. No, I never really tried to get another pair. We just minimize the longer walks in the winter with the ice/snow. If I were going to get a pair, I’d probably just spend the money and go with the Ruffwear shoes. Their sweater has worked really well and the quality of their products justifies spending more. They have several options if you wanted to look into them more.

      I would just look at them closely when they arrive. Mine had clear quality issues from the start but I didn’t really care all that much. They worked pretty decently while they lasted but if I bought another dog boot I would probably go with one of Ruffwears pairs. Let me know how they look when they arrive.

    Good video, I wish I'd seen it before I bought the same boots. We had the same problem with them slipping down and the toes dragging.

      Thanks for the comment. I was curious whether It was just an issue with the pair we received or something with the overall design. Either way, we can do ended up not using any boots this past winter and it was not too too bad. Just had to watch a little more carefully for debris and extent of salt/snow accumulation.

      Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, the dewclaws definitely got pressed/caught at times. Not sure if there’s anyway around that. This videos from a while ago but I never ended up getting any replacement shoes. Just kind of work around it and protect his feet more carefully when it’s icier out.

    WELL? I got the smaller size boots, and it fits way way better. I returned size 8 and went to a size 5. My pups "paw" was 3" WIde. Size 8 was way too big, and the same thing happened where the tip kept scraping on the cement ground. The boot itself measured almost 3"-1/2 wide. So, with the size 5, it fits just right, and the boot doesn't flop and drag on the cement. The only thing is? I can see that the boot will not last as the rubber looks like it's not built for cement. I've only used 2x
    10 min walk each time. Down the block and back each time. Because of the slim fit, I feel that at some point, the nails might punch through. 👊
    But? His paws pads are doing better and don't look erritated after the walks. I only use the fronts 🐾 not the back. So I might keep them and keep the extras when needed. But? It was $30+? I was thinking of trying the other brand, Ruffware, but I didn't feel going through the size thing again. It's not true to size. I feel the boot shouldn't feel like a clowns boob. Remember, I went from a size 8 to a size 5.
    Not sure if Ruff ware is true to size or?
    Hope this helps.
    The way I determined what was the right size was using the measurement tape and did an Mcgiver solution. Lol, but so far, it's going well.

    • @AndrewRockYoutube
      @AndrewRockYoutube  Рік тому

      Thanks for the feedback. Is there a reason why you need the shoes for a 10 minute walk for your dog? Most dogs ‘paws’ and pads should easily tolerate that on cement without getting irritated unless they are not accustomed to walking at all. Seems rather odd. My dog easily tolerates walking or running any distance; outside of winter; without any problems. So, not really sure why you need the dog boots at all if it’s not winter time.

    • @3AmericanPie
      @3AmericanPie Рік тому +1

      My dog can go without the boots, but he has some kind of allergies to the pads and then gets semi bruised. We do go trail walking as well and go to our local shore areas for a 4-hour walks to spend the days out. Sometimes, the areas have rocks for ground cover. For the short walk, he does go to the wooded areas in a dead-end street. There's sticks and grassy areas. But so far, so good, and I hope the boots will last longer than I think.

  • @Sar-ahG
    @Sar-ahG Рік тому +1

    We only go on short walks in the snow and yeah, they might come off if you are in way to deep of snow, and I had to order two different sizes to find her fit, she acts like she doesn’t know how to walk inside the house but as soon as we go outside she has no issues with the boots. It’s been over a year and they still just fine as far as quality. That rock salt on the sidewalks can feel like a chemical burn if you stand on it for even a short time so the boots are necessary sometimes. I’ve used them on extremely hot days as well but only use about 20 times a year - they are better than nothing is my review

    • @AndrewRockYoutube
      @AndrewRockYoutube  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the comment and feedback. I wonder if I ended up with a defective pair or the quality had improved over time given the rubber was pulling off pretty much straight out of the packaging. Definitely agree the shoes are better than nothing in deep snow or on salt.

    Did you find any dog boots that fit your dog? It would be much better if you had a brand that is good so you could compare. It could be that your dog has feet that are hard to fit for boots. I live in montreal where there is snow, ice and salt all winter and I have not found any product that works for my dog. I buy things like that at stores so I can try them on. Better to pay a bit extra than end up disappointed. Most things are no problem to buy online, but not dog boots unless it's the second or third time buying the same ones for the same dog breed.

    • @AndrewRockYoutube
      @AndrewRockYoutube  2 роки тому

      Yeah. Sorry I couldn’t offer an alternative at the time of this video. It’s been a while. I researched online and was actually going to go with the Ruffwear Polar Trex but never actually got to it this winter. So we made it through all winter without major foot issues. I live in upstate NY so we consistently get snow/ice throughout the winter. What I learned living here is mainly to avoid walking immediately after a snow storm when the sidewalks are not uncovered yet. Charlie’s feet will get too cold in that instance and a lot of times there will be too much sand/salt specifically on the roads where it will cause harm to his feet. What I’ll end up doing is multiple shorter walks in areas where it’s better where I live. The rest of the time we got by with longer walks on the sidewalks because it will be partially cleared and they don’t actually put salt/sand on the sidewalks. Usually we do about 2 miles at a time. Other than that I routinely check his feet everyday during winter and make sure his nails are trimmed and feet are wiped off to prevent any salt/sand damage. Occasionally I will apply a paw balm when his feet are too dry but I do not do it much because he’s had issues with yeast on his paws in the past. Beyond that I have tried Mushers balm which is marketed as a protectant for winter weather. I found it mainly causes all the dirt and such to actually stick to his paws more. So I do not use it anymore. With where I live now and our routine I do not think I need another pair of dog boots but the Ruffwear Polar Trex seemed like the best option out there. They are more expensive but Ruffwear’s quality holds up so I do not think you would run into issues. I hope that helps. Andrew

    How long did they last before coming apart? For $30 its reasonable to assume that you'd have replace these every couple of months, especially with daily walks.

    • @AndrewRockYoutube
      @AndrewRockYoutube  3 роки тому

      I would say we regularly used them for about 2 months. The quality of them was very poor from
      The start though. The portions that ultimately came apart were not entirely glued together well from the beginning. So I doubt it was really an overuse issue. Seemed more like poor quality control and they just became dangerous for use at that point where my dog would catch his paw or trip just from the shoes.
      I hope that answers your question.

      These were the first ones I ever purchased. So, I don’t have personal experience comparing different models. But, these fell apart pretty quickly and easily. I am looking into other brands for this upcoming winter given we have a good deal of ice/snow on the ground at times. So I’ll follow up with something on whichever brand we pick this winter.

      Hmm. How often are you walking her? The nails should grow out on their own if you limit the cutting. Then you can just maintain them at the right length. He just hops straight on the couch lays there and I treat him throughout.
