Used to think this too but the gibson signature or more known as the "jack casady" is wonderful and so is the triumph bass Those are 2 instruments where lespaul put proper love into The ripper is one that is more of gibsons "stingray" sounds cool but isnt my personal thing Alot of the known gibson designs like the thunderbird are instrument design where very little proper love and design where put into Tho this doesnt discard my love for Leo Fenders work either
Proudly having one of G&L guitar. Just bought a tribute series legacy, and I still want to buy more and more... Your CLF pickups are mind blowing tones and I am curious on your MFD..... Success for G&L 👍👍👍
It's not the single coil SB-1 (first style), it's more like half of an L-2000 humbucker. I don't believe those large pole single coil pickups ever made it to a production instrument.
It's really wild to think that Fender, Musicman, AND G&L were not only all started by the same folks, but were TRULY THE EXACT SAME shop at CLF Research. In a weird way, it's gotta be kind of secretly embarrassing for Fender and Ernie Ball today that neither of them are the true origins of their own instruments.
Still sounds better than any gibson bass :)

Great video David
Kickass video!! So what you're saying is, you're taking inspiration form the Breadboard Bass and developing a maple L-2000? Sign me up!!

I enjoyed this very much. Thanks!
Sounds really cool! Are those the pickups that ended up on early SB-1's? Would really love a reissue of those ones
