Absolutely! It's unfortunate that the only location set we got was the Armada Sentry set. I would've loved to see a few more location sets in that style, as it was obviously different than the style seen in the Imperial Soldiers and Imperial Guards sets.

Considering the armada was clearly Spanish, I find that strange as well as their ship choices. Spain in this period is known for big ships and bigger fortresses.
Too bad we didn’t get something like one of the Morro castles in the Caribbean, seeing as they were huge, impressive and a nightmare scenario for pirates.
The castle in Puerto Rico even has a 300 year old treasure map graffitied into the prison wall from the pirate Cofresí.

    I have 2 theories:
    1. In the set pirates perilous pitfall, george is seen in a captains hat, which implies redbeard ran away and abandoned his crew, george as the new captain tried to fend off the armada but failed and was either killed or captured along with his crew. Or some sort of deal occurred between redbeard and the armada, resulting in him giving away his former crews location, which could have been possible with the bucaneers set.
    2. Redbeard partially defeated the armada, sinking their ship and killing or capturing the admiral, as the admiral is no longer seen in the final sets, as a result of this sergeant speedy and captain valiant mounted one final attack on the pirates but failed and they were killed, which might be possible judging by the box art of pirates perilous pitfall, where we can see a boulder falling on captain valiant. Again, captain redbeard might have ditched his crew and escaped on the crossbone clipper.

Something to note is in “perilous treasure pitfall” Gorge can be seen with a captains hat, which I believe leads to your theory of Red beard abandoning his crew. Gorge then took charge as one last attempt to come out victorious, but evidently failed.
Great video as always!, I’ve never been to interested in this line of pirates and Spanish armada, but honestly you’ve made me take a second look and I’m the happiest for it!, have a great day man!😁

I dont think George failed. In that set you can see the armada rapidly failing to invade the island. So I am pretty sure they were able to fight them off.

Lots of interesting ideas here! While the models themselves weren't the best (aside from Volcano Island; that one still holds up) this era of Pirates is one of my favorites because of the cool new minifigure designs--Captain Valiant in particular is one of my top ten favorite minifigures.

I find it slightly ironic that this line of LEGO Pirates is what sparked my interest in the theme way back in the late 90s, even though I didn't have much (if not anything) that represented it in my collection until recently. I collect LEGO mainly from purchasing bulk lots, and these sets are very rare to find! Somehow I've managed to find them. The last (and most elusive) set to find was "Pirates Perilous Pitfall".

Theory: The captain of the redbeard runner and crossbone clipper is not the actual roger redbeard whom we know from the pirate sets of 1993 and prior but his great-grandfather. This would explain the different time periods (spanish armada --> 16th century, redcoats and blue coats 18th century). The sets of 1995 and 1996 depict the later years of him as both of his ship are in poor condition and not as refined as the later ones. Furthermore, i seem to recall that the treasure of roger redbeard's great grandfather was a central element of the struggle between the pirates and the imperial soldiers.

Yo this theory is amazing you are a fucking genius I was always wonder why the conquistador and the napoleonic French and English soldier were at the same time and this theory simplifies everything.
I also think that the armada is actually the strongest Lego pirate faction as the admiral is depicted as the most important and powerful character of the pirate set because on an description he seem to have control all over the seven sea.
What you think of my theory about the armada?

    • @andrewvancheese7062
      @andrewvancheese7062 Рік тому +1

@@angantyrarmageddon2559 makes sense; historically, spanish hegemony over the Americas was hardly contestet at that time. Thus, i would not consider the spanish being the most powerful faction legit, for they basically were the first ones to even be there. Maybe Roger Redbeard's great grandfather was one of the privateers hired by the other (and/or later) colonial powers in order to break that spanish dominance.

Since the Armada represents Spain, I believe that since the lore takes place in the 1700s, that the Armada is on the decline. This is evident by their outdated 16th century uniforms, and smaller fleet with less bases. The Armada’s government simply doesn’t have the funds to supply their Naval forces better, leading to them using smaller ships with less guns, in outdated uniforms. However, it’s obvious that they are still a very potent force in the region. Factions like the Imperial Guards and Imperial Soldiers are able to build larger vessels (like the Imperial flagship) equip their men with state of the art uniforms and weapons (such as the classic tall shakos, and epaulettes,) and larger forts and trading posts that give them a much tighter grip on the region.

I think the reason redbeard wasn’t in the land base sets, is because he was deafeated, well, not quite. I think that the Red Beard Runner was destroyed by the armada and Redbeard himself was on the run, hiding using the cross bone clipper to stay off of their radar. After the defeat of most of his crew, he fled to the wreck of the black seas barracuda which was on an island near where the islanders once were. I also do not think that Redbeard and Kahuka are hostile, they are good friends and allies as stated by multiple sources. Great video by the way! Tomorrow, I am going to pick up set 40504 at the Lego House as I am staying in Billund right now.
