Quick translation: 00:01: So, welcome to Aurora! 00:09: I feel that I am in very good company today. What you have done is very admirable. And it’s only this that can … which is necessary to save this one world which we have. 00:40: I believe that there is hope, if we do the right things now and in the years ahead. We have to believe that it is possible, because we are the only ones who can do something - there isn’t anything else. 01:02: And now you’ll be getting the whole of this year’s action-song with wonderful Aurora. Here’s “The Seed”. 05:46: Many thanks to Aurora. She’ll be swishing in here soon, but now we’ll soon get a new country overview. We have to say that we’re in a state of emergency, we’re in a pandemic, people are laid off from work, the community feeling that people could get by participating in the TV Action physically is now replaced by digital solutions, so this is a very different time. 06:09: And Karoline, Secretary-General, how is it to see that the generosity is so great when our state of living is so different? Karoline: It’s fantastic. It’s also nice to see the campaign of knowledge that is the TV Action, everyone is now talking about plastic and are getting engaged despite Covid-19 - and that we have the great Aurora with us here. And then we see that people have already donated so much money. People, small children, have donated the money they got on their birthdays, they’ve had “school races” - it’s fantastic. I don’t know what to say … I said “fantastic” a lot now, but … Ingrid: But it is fantastic! And now I heard a happy sound from you, Aurora, because I know that you’re extremely committed to helping the environment. It’s been a part of your life for a long time. How is it to see how committed people are? Aurora: Oh, it’s fantastic! It’s easy to be overwhelmed when we see how we have damaged this world we live on. But all the damage we’ve done has been done by individuals before us, so it makes sense that everything can be fixed again by individuals. It’s us, you and me and you and all you at home. So it’s fantastic to see, it’s touching. We’re in the process of saving the soul of humanity again, because now we’re the ones who saved the world, not the ones who destroyed it - or we can become those people. Ingrid: You were part of a beach cleanup, you came as a surprise. Cleansounds has a concept where famous Norwegian artists give tribute to those who clean our beaches. There is hope that this will become a global movement, and you are now going to challenge some new artists. Aurora: Yes. Where should I look? Ingrid: Yes, where should you look? Look where it’s red. Aurora: Hello. I challenge Sigrid, because I know she’s going to love this. She’s an awesome lady. Ingrid: Oh, I think it’s so cool. If it wasn’t for the pandemic, we’d have had a lot of people here and there’d be a big applause in the studio. Instead we could get applause from WWF’s gang, who’s in a different venue where they’re sitting one meter from each other. Ingrid: Yeah! They’re so excited! They loved that you challenged internationally, Aurora. And now we’re going to check the numbers, because it’s also about that tonight, it’s not only about information, it’s about money. We’re going to check out the top five municipalities. And we can see Utsira, 278.92 kroner per inhabitant. That’s great! Træna, Lurøy, Bokn and Rødøy. Then we’re going to what was the country overview and hopefully get a higher amount. Karoline: We usually have fundraisers who go door-to-door, and they collect 70 million in cash. All this we now have to do digitally, and look! Wow, look how you’re delivering out there. And you can still call, call many times, vippse (use the mobile payment application Vipps) even more times, it’s just… Ingrid: Yes, it’s beautiful. Aurora: It’s awesome! Ingrid: Aurora and Karoline, you can now go and cheer backstage. And I have to take the opportunity to mention someone who has been INCREDIBLE at mobilizing: The Norwegian Sailing Federation has managed to collect almost 300 000 kroner. If there are more of you out there in boats who love the ocean, then you can find the sailing federation’s digital collecting tin and make sure that they get past 300 000 kroner. You can also vippse to 2133.

Great admiration to Aurora for her beautiful spirit and amazing talent, and I appreciate everyone's intent in these kinds of efforts - but I also must say, as a lifelong ecological activist, that focusing on beach cleanups as a substantial way to help the environment can be very misleading. Many, many times the amount of trash that might be picked up in such an event is being dumped into the ocean every minute of every day. The answer is not picking up a tiny amount of trash and then feeling like something is accomplished - the answer must be to stop creating the trash in the first place - stop using (and paying for) disposable plastic. If those who the public admires, like Aurora (very understandably), would encourage everyone to drastically reduce their consumption (of everything but particularly disposable plastics) and/or petition the government to ban such things, then we might be getting somewhere. Same with drastically reducing our driving, flying, and eating animals (and their "products") in order to reduce the climate crisis. Cleaning a beach really just makes the problem less visible to beach visitors. I also pick up trash, but let's not think it's really addressing the root of the problem - to imagine it's a solution is just "greenwashing". We are going to have to really change our lives - but it can be truly joyful!
The point is that it raises awareness. If people don’t see the problem, they will not change. We can blame companies and governments, but true change only happens when we as individuals change our behavior.

I know that politics seem like theatrics and puppetry to some (I mean they're not wrong...) But if we shout loud enough and convince people to follow global strikes eventually politicians will have no option but to listen.
Totally agree with you when it comes to coal and oil but this year's fundraising program on NRK applies to something that is just as important.
