One thing to keep in mind when doing the mod - when these were built, the quality was wildly different. Zach has a super clean pedal in the video. My 1995 TS-9 was a mess - lots and lots of excess solder all over the board and worse, the chip's legs were bent in all sorts of angles ... which I couldn't tell until I removed what felt like a gallon of solder. So word to the wise - don't start yanking on the chip until you make sure the legs are straight. Take your time and clean the board. (P.S. Thanks for the great video!)
Just the info I was looking for! I'm lucky enough to have just bought a used TS9 with a JRC 4558D chip (£40 delivered) so I only need to change the 2 x resistors! Thank you so much for such a great video :D
+Jesse Belanger Hey man shoot me a message and I'll hook you up with some mod details and you can use any dual op amp in a TS style pedal, Jrc4558, Rc4558, TL072, an assortment of others.
This is an old video but I just wanted to say thanks. I have an original 82' TS9 with the undesirable chip that has always been a little glassy or gnarly. I completed this mod last week and now I can't get a sound I don't like out of it.
+Thunder Death 2 Stevie used a pair of tubescreamers with the gain all the way down and the volume all the way so the story goes. This mod will make a TS9 Reissue to the same spec as an 808 pedal. There are other mods you can do to elevate the tone. This isnt they keeley mod per se but it's part of the tweaks you can do. If you want other mods hit me up on my website mythospedals.com
Looks like he does this 808 mod plus additionally replacing led's, and removing a diode and a capacitor. Replacing capacitors, and two other resistors. Hopefully he posts that video as well.
@@nickwilson9210 The TS808 reissue has the correct chip and resistor values. The older TS9 didn't have the 4558 chips but do currently. They do not have the 2 changed resistors. The TS-808 is a reissue and has the correct modern equivalent parts
@@nickwilson9210 From the analogman site "In early 2004 Ibanez finally reissued the TS-808 pedal due to popular demand. This pedal uses the new 2002+ TS9 reissue board, made by Ibanez, not the older, slightly better quality MAXON board like the original TS808 and pre-2002 TS9. It does have the correct JRC4558D op amp and output resistors, so it sounds good, pretty close to our CLASSIC TS9/808 mod." I have been inside MANY of these pedals and this is true.
Why not just get a demon tube screamer? It has a ts9, and an 808. It sounds pretty fuckin killer in front of a a pharoh, or void master distortion - fuzz pedals. Gives it a warm overdrive going into a high gain fuzz tuned down to like A standard, or B.
I just did this last night
SO MUCH BETTER THANK YOU!!!
Wish I knew solder braid existed last time I made a feeble attempt to fix my wampler pinnacle.
What is the wattage of your iron?
Would any of this work with a Mini TS?
Chris Twarowski sadly no. The mini is all surface mount parts. But sounds great!!
Chris Twarowski good question bro

Thanks for posting this. My TS9 already had the JRC4558D chip so all I had to do were the resistors. Subscribed.

+NG One Seven you're very welcome
which year was it from?
Im a beginner, how many watt of resistor do I need?
1/4 watt :)
Hey Zach! Thanks for helping with my first mod! - another Zach
Hey. Thanks soooo much. This video was so helpful. Can you do one or send me s link for a easy mod I can do to the 808 reissue
Also I have a socket in one ts clone. Can I try any op amp that will fit

So glad it helped!
is this how you do the keely mod too or is this a separate mod. I just want srv tube screamer tones

damn we just been dipped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What power rating do those resistors have? Half Watt, quarter W?
1/4w
@@ZachBroyles thank you! Would a 1/2W work too?
Hi Zach, was watching Rhett Schulls last video, was there any detail video on the mods you did to his ts9? Thanks

@@Cpt_Adama Agreed that would be an awesome update!
I have a ts808 how would I put a 4558d chip in that ? Would I need to change and resisters ?
It has that chip and resistor values already :)

Zach Broyles sorry I must be thinking of the 1458 sorry
Do you have to use a socket?
You don't have to, but it's very helpful if you want to experiment down the road.
