Our apathy toward voting is going to send us back to pre-civil rights. We need to stand up and fight people. 😡
Slavery, KKK, Jim Crow, redlining, Biden's Crime Bill and all black oppression was done by Democrats but you still vote blue? That's the definition of a sellout.
Karen just laced us with a good one. Fire! Good ideas, gooood. 8 years more before the big score.
Facts!
Again..Exactly what are we voting for that helps BA? Ex..I live in California. And there's nothing to vote on any ballot that helps BAs? I don't care about Latino/Hispanic/Asian issues..If any of it was about closing the wealth gap or equality for BAs then I'd vote..
And FIGHT HOW? Voting has NEVER HELPED BA...And we have no BAs in Politics Fighting for the Rights and Equality of BA..so what's the point? Voting as a Civic Duty has gotten BA NOTHING..We need a different strategy and different way of fighting for the Rights and Equality for BA because voting is getting us NOWHERE..🤔

AIPAC money defeated Mr. Bowman 🤬!!
Bowman defeated Bowman. He played games with his votes in Congress, as well as his support for President Biden, and it backfired on him. He basically wrote AIPAC's ads for them.
Yes and J Street disowned him. They'd already gotten their Iron Dome vote, which - among other things - cost him a lot of the progressive base that helped get him elected in the first place. You have no shot at beating re-districting when you've fractured your base. Karen's right, the Dems do play the long game.
🤷🏾♂️
Jamaal did it to himself.
And people didn't vote...
We lack political discipline so we suffer the consequences
Quick question and this is an honest one. He pulled a fire alarm to stop a vote. Is that political discipline? I hate the government so I am just asking and not trying to be a gotcha question?
*We also lack a critical thinking **#PoliticalEducation**!*

We can't repeat 2016. Period.
The fact that WE don’t vote in the primaries is why we lose! I have been saying this to anyone who would listen. We can change everything in a single primary election but WE don’t vote 😢

I never understand being "apathetic" at this point. We're losing unnecessarily. I blame the collision of politics & aggressive emotionalism. We need political tactical & strategic awareness, urgently.

Was Bowman as vocal for Black people in his district as he was for the people in Gaza? Did he get money for community centers, job programs, anything? I truly don't know.
I really hate that he lost. He made a few missteps. Seems like ever since he pulled that fire alarm he has been targeted. I didn’t know his district had been redrawn, though.

He didn't just pull the fire alarm. You can see in the full video that he took/knocked down the emergency exit signs from the doors first. My guess is he had marching orders to delay that vote. Maybe the Dems didn't quite have all their ducks in a row.
Shame on NYers for the low voting turnout. Where were these progressive for Rep. Jamaal Bowman? They do a lot of talking online but when it counts they don't show up.
What have Bowman done for his black American constituents?
Brought to you by vote blue no matter who and money in politics. I've had friends who would vote in Republican primaries in an attempt control who runs in the general. Not a bad strategy, but one of many tools. The problem is no one wants to do the research to vote for progressives in primaries and fail to understand the concept of voting down ballot. I always tell people, you can contribute to campaigns and volunteer for them, regardless if you can vote for them. People think it starts and stops at the ballot box, but the truth is it starts long before we get to the ballot box.
Jamal bowman defeat tell us that he was never in a black American district, his district is primarily Caribbean immigrants African immigrants Latino immigrants. The other half was a bunch of white moderates in New York State.
APAC went after him because his district was not black American. And could easily be persuaded via anti-black American sentiment ,
This would never happen in a black majority district across the black south.
And by black, I mean, black and American (descendants of USA chattel slavery)

The corporate establishment didn't want Bowman to have that power.
Alarms should be blaring loudly today. This is a direct hit 🎯 to Democracy and people are apathetic as it occurs.
Excellent question… what do we want? I will think about it but the first thing I want is representation …stop splitting our districts to reduce our AA voices. It goes back to taxation without representation. 2. Removal of qualified immunity for police officers. 3. While we are giving extra funds to recent migrants… there should be communication of what grants our communities have access to improve their financial situations, elimination of price gouging…stop playing into the hands of big business. If I continue with points ppl can get overwhelmed.
yup...but that requires a strategy, right?
@@KarenHunterShow oooo Ms. Karen, most definitely. There are several plays that could be made but the start is simple: Identify the ppl within the community that know how the hill really works and those working at "foundations" similar to the "Heritage Foundation" but with the purpose of equality and fighting for the community. Invite some voices to a small "summit" and let the brainstorming begin. It will be a lot of work, but every large endeavor has a small start.
Great point about voting in the primaries! Excellent point.
The Democratic party is more divided than we think especially at the local level here in New York. Also, outside money is influencing US elections nationally and locally which is disturbing; with the rise of social media voters are becoming extremely misinformed. Oh, Latimer is racist!

Yeah misinformed by democrats, the same people that tell you that men can have kids
Yeah misinformation from sodom and gamour democrats, the fools that tell you men can have kids
Prof Hunter is on point. A national strategy is needed to register some black and brown people as republican, in these gerrymandered districts. It is not just about race but about policy and power. The Poor Peoples campaign is keying in on some of this strategy under Rev. Barber's leadership.
AIPAC BOUGHT THIS ONE !!! Respect to Mr Jamaal Bowman the Democratic party establishment sold him out....
No they didn't, dark money sunk him, he spoke up for Palestine and Israel peace, the powers don't want that, they want to see Israel slaughter the Palestinians, that's what got him sunk.

*The regular-smegular Black Joe and Jane can not money wise compete with these **#SuperPACS** that are out there. The (TWO)most powerful things that Black people can exert, is UNITY and their VOTE.* 🗳️
Black people can take ownership of power. If the successful, powerful and wealthy blacks could combine or partner up to create a conglomerate just like wealthy whites, we could do some things.
It's all about political power. His area was gerrymandered by people who have political power. This should tell us to come together and fight for our issues and most of all vote in mass before white supremacists takes away our vote
This is an example of talking too much and fighting for the wrong narrative. All thoughts about polarizing subjects do not need to be commented. The opponent or other side watched and used it against him. We are letting our emotions drive our actions and we are not be strategic. We are playing checkers and others are playing chess. We have to be smarter
Very much so!
Isn't this a case of a Forgien country meddling in American politics 😂😂
He gave the appearance of not caring for Black people, but caring for others. Even if this wasn’t true how you are perceived by the public in the media is very important. Think before you speak.
Bowman didn’t focus on his base enough. Black politicians rub the intersectional route and it doesn’t work. Focus on your people 1st and loudly. If you can’t do that then don’t run. We aren’t going to care.
The GOP owns the SCOTUS because they had a strategy and they executed it. We cannot roll through this society without a strategy. I remember when you said that. I wasn't angry with you because you had a STRATEGY.
Black people are expected to put everyone else’s issues a head of our own. There’s also a lack of organizations within the community educating the people on politics. It’s just get out the vote.
This 👆👏
Black people don't have a solid lobbying crew or a unified agenda...period.
Old white lady here. I live in a mixed neighborhood in a red state. I have been working with minority voters to help get out the vote. My political views align with my black neighbors because their success would ensure my success. Any white person who doesn’t agree with that is kidding themselves. I'm sorry Jamal Bowman lost his Primary, Prof. Hunter.
I believe he was outmatched by the 'special interest' big money donors whose strategically placed lying ads were just overwhelming.
This was a good brotha who has been making a difference for his constituents. All this didn't matter when it counted since redistricting also assisted in his loss.
It's a sad day for Mr. Bowman, but moreso for our politics since it shows us that money sadly appears to have more of an influence on our elections than someone who can make a difference in the lives of his constituents.
It is a SAD day indeed!💯
Dr. Hunter, You are so ON POINT about Politics in general. We need AGENCY; An ULTIMATE and SUBSTANTIAL POWER BASE that's consistently navigates STRATEGICALLY in Primaries and General Elections. No folks we aren't quite WOKE yet! DEMOCRATS: We need a New PLAY BOOK !!!
He didn’t advocate for his people, that’s why he lost
Which is often the case in this party.
Gaza should never have had more passion poured into it than the block.
@@eribric5556Gaza is important in many ways though! Namely, questioning why we're giving Israel billions of OUR tax dollars, while they bomb and kill children and babies. Meanwhile, we received nothing! As for "the block", he's been on that prior for a while. But the block needs to do better internally. We don't reinvest in us anymore! And when there's attempts, they get killed off. Businesses fold, schools lose funding, the block gets bought and regentrified. In the end, our people look at money as THE ONLY endgame. And souls are easily bought! A major reason some of our young people think Trump is great for them and their wallets.
This one falls on Hillary. Bowman's gerrymandered district is predominantly republican now. I don't think the Democrats will retain this district further contributing to congressional dysfunction 😢
Hillary didn't stop 80% of black people from voting!!
Latimier and Aipac have not won yet! The people in that district who don't like what happened to Bowman, need to vote for the most suitable Republican candidate in the general election. Form new alliances.
He has a majority Jewish base and he did not vote in there favor simple as that
I learned from this race and constituents in his district that this loss reflects a national vs. local or online vs real-life divergence in voter's values. Most of the online discussions seemed to focus on his advocacy for Palestine. However, he was down in support as shown in the Mellman Group Poll before AIPAC lent support. AOC won her race but she is very connected in her community and has similar positions to Bowman. As an incumbent, I think it would have been a better move for him to focus on his contributions to his community than have that eclipsed by the national conversation on Palestine.
You are absolutely correct. AOC is much active in her district Jamaal Bowman. In fact, I met AOC at a Kwanzaa event at the New York Public Library in Queens. Meanwhile, Jamal Bowman, who I did vote for in the primary, isn't seen out and about in the district.
If Dems were to focus on 3 issues, we would criticize that too.
I feel like we are seeing the meshing of the traditional Moderate Conservative into the Centrist Democratic party, which is feeling to me like they are shifting to the right. This will be difficult for our Progressive heroes. It is time for the more Progressive wing of the party to apply the same pressure to the establishment Dems that MAGA supporters have hoisted onto theirs. I love the idea of crossing party lines for the purposes of voting in their primaries. I lead a citizen action group in Florida, and we also kicked around the idea.
I like this idea, too! Strategic politics is what we need. Great to see folks fighting!
Power To The People✊🏾
Democrats have been moving right since the Clinton era. Honestly, Progressives need to be a separate party. Centrist Dems are in the same bed as Republicans, including MAGA. They have the same donors. The difference is Centrist Dems are always ready to compromise with the Republicans and the Republicans have no interest in governing, at least not for progress. Centrist Dems would rather work with Republicans than Progressives. That's just fact.
Yeah. Go ahead and vote for the Maga Republicans how do you like your Apartheid served! Do black people have to not see but relive the 60's for them to realize what is going on! 20% of the black people voted and this is why black are going to lose and suffer!!!
The democratic party shifted to center/ center right years ago. Actually right after the Jimmy Carter presidency. Maybe not in speech but definitely in deeds.
The Democrats have been moving to the right since the Clinton era and they have clearly demonstrated that they would rather compromise with the right and the far-right, than work with progressives.

He shouldn't have even been able to still run after pulling that fire alarm anyway
He's a "threatening" black man. Black men in politics have speak soft and eloquent. Everyone else can do what they want.
D’s are moving from left to center! Not far left to center but more like just to the side of the middle to the middle. D’s also can’t continue to call out Jewish Pacts on one hand for the atrocities in Gaza and then ask for money with the other hand.

Hi, Karen! I want to offer another view. Jamaal Bowman, like a few other Dem Reps, is an activist that seems to focus on single issues. I see his loss as related to the one issue I see most of our young college students stuck on, policy change related to GAZA and the Palestinians.
Well, my retired sister still has rent that costs more than her current social security benefit payment. She qualifies for SNAP benefits, so that pays for food, but inflation still eats at that. Low income energy assistance could help with utilities, but it is temporary only, not an every month help. The Internet subsidy is no longer available. Without help, she would be homeless. Republicans in the Red States, like Florida have made homelessness a crime. Is New York any better for the low income/low wage voters?
We need them to focus on issues such as housing the Homelessness, Affordable Housing and and the human rights problems being created by these red state Republicans! We need them to spend time articulating to their voters the things they are doing or will try to do. They cannot leave all communication to the President's bully pulpit or Trump! We need to hear from our representatives! Jamaal Bowman left his low income voters with no reason to fight for him, as he was fighting for people who don't even live in this country!
It means money still talks.
