Since, moment= force × distance, by keeping the force(weight of dumbell) same but increasing the distance from the arm(tge arm legnth point), the moment also increases. Hence, the more effort it takes to pull the dumbell from the vertical height. 🎉

IIT aspirants : ooh man concept is so simple, torque is equal to perpendicular force applied multiplied by the distance from the pivot point.
Hence if you have a greater distance from the pivot point, you will have a greater torque and it will be harder to lift the load which is further away from you
Arent force and perpendicular distance inversely proportional so if distance increases force required should be less

For those wondering, it's torque at play. You're applying force closer to the point of rotation and hence for the same weight kept farther, more force is required to generate enough torque to move the dumbell.
