Ain't his mom like 200 or w/e too? Hell I mean Yen is like some decades older than Geralt, and I'm quite sure his mom is like at least a century older than her.
Witcher 1 introduced to me something I have never experienced in my video games: a choice that I have to make as a player where both available options lead to a tragedy.
@@pawelzietek Its one of the beautiful things when you look outside the classical western entertainment, where there are so many places in the world (eastern Europe is one of those) where stories also can have bad/sad ending where the good guys arent victorious.
For me W2 have the best story and locations and W1 have the best atmosphere. W3 main story wasn't that good, some side quest was better. And gameplay when it comes to combat was awful same with graphics without mods. But there is a solution - Enhanced Edition mod where it changes gameplay to be way greater
Nahh, compared to Witcher 2 the gameplay is way too bloated, compared to Witcher 1 the story is downright weak and also bloated. One can argue if one likes the button mashing of 3 or the precise gameplay of 2, if 1 only has the best story beats or the whole story is the best, if one likes the generic skills and equipment of 3 or the handcrafted ones of 1 and 2. But that the gameplay of 2 is tighter and the story of 1 has better beats than 3 is not really debateable.
@@kevinnorwood8782 so true, the first game feels very close to the books, cant say i enjoy tv show so far, geralt is the only redeeming thing in it, rest is so badly done it feels like an insult to the books
I get that but I always thought the only creepy thing about Geralt would be his eyes. I don’t know why but when reading the books I imagined Witcher’s eyes not acting like humans. Rarely blinking, always open wide, quick pupil movements. That was all I really found creepy about his description.
@@themoofs6925 well, both games and tv-series would indeed change that. When people watch or play things like this, they prefer that the character looks and feels like a badass.
7:34 Geralt is about 90+ years old if memory doesn't fail. It's because witcher mutations slow aging a LOT. His mentor, Vesemir, is several times older, like atleast 200 years old.
The Witcher 3 is the most recent game within Geralt's saga and it is considered the best not only becase of its story, but how it basically revolutionized the gaming sphere with its great story, great gameplay, even sidequests in the game were heavily story driven and as fans, we appreciated that a lot! The witcher 1 and 2 are also great games and have great stories. CD Project Red (the game developers) basically always elevated the games with each installment and it's honestly a breath of fresh air.
I can see the difference in the quality, but of course, no know nothing about the game itself. BUT it is cool to get a peak behind the curtain at how it evolved.
@@HannaHsOverInvested It's an interesting technical leap from game to game. Story is great in all of them in my opinion. The first game used a licensed "game engine" (the way game looks & feals and works mechanically) it was not designed for the game they were trying to make and it shows. It's "clunky" to play to say the least. For Witcher 2 they created their own engine, aptly named REDengine, no small feat by itself. But it shows, the gameplay is leaps and bounds improved. (REDengine 2 was used for console versions of W2). For Witcher 3 they further developed REDengine3 specifically for open world mechanics and much improved facial and other animations. As one might've guessed they're about to release Cyberpunk 2077 which uses REDengine4. There is very new trailer for that out (3 days old atm). It's fresh for us all, but your reaction is very welcome. ua-cam.com/video/ixl31324UxE/v-deo.html Ps. Get your "bleep" sound ready, it's not PG...one f-bomb from Keanu aswell...
The guy in the last trailer is called Letho. He is the villain in the second game and this trailer shows you how skilled he is. Also he is a witcher from another witcher school. So Geralt doesn't recognize him which also comes from Geralts memory loss, but the memory loss is more or less the thing you try to handle in the games...you are trying to figure out who you were and who you are.
considering what universe we are talking about I find it hard to call him a "villain", especially considering how cool of a guy he actually is once you talk to him in the ending, and once you learn his and Geralts history
@@Mrchern-io8nu Well yeah :) but all in all I'd say that (if we only see the witcher 2 video game) Letho is a villain in this story. If not even the villain. But you said it: he is a cool guy who shares some history with Geralt.
Witcher 1 was the first game and is slightly more connected to the novels. The Striga is the daughter of Foltest, the King of Temeria (his illegitimate daughter and, ahem...niece...Foltest REALLY liked his sister.) It pretty much takes place years after the early episodes of the novels and Geralt has been missing and presumed dead. Plague ravages Temeria and Geralt comes back...in the opening scenes he has flashbacks of The Wild Hunt as well as throughout the game. Part of his period of absence he actually rode WITH the Wild Hunt, but when he comes back he's pretty much amnesiac. Several of the episodes in this game come directly from the novels. His primary love interest in that game was Triss Merigold but he also had an affair with Shani, a human medic who is really very cool and my own personal favorite of Geralt's many conquests. Very much end of the world stuff but ...well, I won't spoil it for you. It ends with Geralt foiling an assassination attempt on Foltest...and the assassin turns out to have been another Witcher from a different Witcher school. Witcher 2 happens after Foltest is happy with Geralt who is still with Triss. It begins when Foltest is besieging the castle of Baroness La Vallete who is the mother of two of Foltest's other illegitimate, but not incest born children. Because of this and their mother being a noblewoman, he can acknowledge them as his heirs. (Foltest gets around.) There's a dragon...but Geralt wins, Foltest gets reunited with his children. But as Geralt is with them, another assassin gets in and kills Foltest and escapes. Whoops. The army runs in, King is dead, Geralt is there with blood on his sword...so he gets thrown in the slam. Vernon Roche, the head of Foltest's special forces (the blue stripes) gets partially convinced by Geralt that he didn't do the deed and sort of arranges an escape so Geralt can find out who is killing Kings (Foltest was the second king killed) and who's behind it. The story splits somewhat...Geralt can later hook up with Roche or he can hook up with Iorveth, the leader of the Elven/Dwarven Scoiatel rebels. Long story short, the Dragon is under the control of the Sorceresses who sort of 1) want to stop the wars and 2) want to grab power for themselves. Complications ensue. It ends with several possible outcomes. Yennifer is mentioned but still not present, and Geralt still doesn't know that she is his prior lover...he's with Triss still. The outcomes in this game, of battles, who kills who, who is still alive, segue into the beginning of Witcher 3, the Wild Hunt and the reasons the world is as it is when the 3rd game begins.
It has spoilers if you plan on playing through the games eventually. They are set years after the last book. So it’s likely there isn’t much which spoils the original story for you.

In the "Letho" trailer, they're showing one of Letho's previous assassinations before he went after Foltest. It was just a cinematic trailer to show a bit more background on him. He's one of the major antagonists in the 2nd Witcher game.
Also a nice tip of thw Witcher 2 cinematic is the atention to detail, how one of the fighter is quite nervious and bows twice or why the bowman who previously is shown as super skilled missed both arrows (First one the mast fell when he was about to shoot and messed his aim, on the second one he was already too close to the target allowing Letho to predict it and dodge , later even Letho admits he was lucky on that assasination)
The red head one is Triss, Yen has black hair. In the last video, it's another witcher from the school of the viper, Letho. I didn't play Witcher 2, but he also appears in Witcher 3 and is a really cool character. Him and Geralt are friends. Most of the people played Witcher 3 because that game won the game of the year award and is acclaimed by everyone. The graphics are amazing, the story is amazing, gameplay is amazing. It is so fun to watching this with you. This is actually one of my favourite Witcher stories. PS, No Haircuts in England either but husband asked me to cut his, I did, hmmmmm. He SAID it was ok but
to answer your question: the first game in the series was the very first game that CDProjekt RED had developed a game, prior to that they were solely a publisher, in terms of the story it was amazing but in terms of gameplay it was somewhat basic in comparison to other similar games of it's kind around that time that was partially down to technical limitations of the time but also down to them bulding something from scratch and it being their first time, the second game in the franchise was significantly better in terms of gameplay features etc but still had some of the underlying issues the first game had but again story was still really well done, the third game has been critically acclaimed for very good reason, the story is amazing, especially the 2 expansions that added so much more to the story and were beautiful in their own right, the game still has some of the fundamental issues the others had but overall it was a marked improvement over the previous 2, and overall there's no other game in the same genre that comes close to the witcher 3 in terms of depth and quality, there's a huge amount of attention to detail with plenty of nods to pop culture and other things in some of the quests/place names/item names etc, and there's still missed details being discovered today even though the game is now 5 years old.
I gasped SO LOUD when I read that. I have heard two things consistently about Triss. 1. People think I look like her. 2. It is very VERY important that she have red hair. I cannot tell you how happy I am to hear you say that show Triss' hair is more like the books. I love this SO MUCH!

The reason people carry on about the Witcher 3 over the other games is because it was more refined than the others. The developers changed the way the game played for the second and third. I would certainly recommend anyone interested in the third game at least watch someone play the different paths of the other 2. It is not easy to understand certain characters without it such knowledge. I believe that all of the games are recent enough to hold up, but many don't want to take the time to understand the first games mechanics. People also just tend to skip to the most popular version, as seen in games like Elder Scrolls.
I would say that the amnesia is more of a story aspect that you will see pop up later. The journal entries are what help you make decisions in the Witcher games. Many people don't read all the entries and updates. Don't mind my griping. I am just biased against a particular character, and it is more difficult to see why the character is what he is without playing the first two games. Reading about actions is not as visceral as seeing it for many. I can't wait to see how the show portrays him so I can loathe him all over again (I dissect fiction I like).
That first trailer actually came out in 2007, just uploaded to UA-cam in 2012. The story of the final trailer is basically Nilfgaard has hired that guy (Letho of Gulet; a witcher) to assassinate the northern kings so they can invade without much resistance. Letho kills foltest at he beginning of the witcher 2 and geralt is framed because he is currently acting as foltest's body guard/military advisor and they know that the kings are being hunted by a witcher. So Letho serves as a sort of pseudo villain throughout the story who you have to find in order to clear your name.
@@HannaHsOverInvested Not sure. The producers seem to be avoiding the stuff from the games as much as possible but they have borrowed a bit. For example the music in the show is very evocative of the music in the games, especially the witcher 3 but I don't know if that's intentional.
@@HannaHsOverInvested As far as I'm aware, for the Netflix show they have license for the books (and co-operation of the authot), but the game storyline happens after the books. So by definition they cannot use them as they do not have a copyright for those unless they also make a deal with CDPR. However if the show turns out a major success with 5-10 seasons in sight, I don't see why such a deal would not be made at some point.
Witcher 1, 2, 3 continue a story from the books (first two books = first season of the show). There are 8 books. Timeline of the books ends in 1268 year. The first Witcher game (2007) takes place in 1270, Geralt lost his memory from start of the game and dealt with organization who stole witchers secrets. Events of the Witcher 2 (2011) happened in 1271 and it tells story about Geralt trying to fully restore his memory, while he was accused in death of king Foltest (in fact muscular witcher from fourth trailer killed him) and dived deep into a politics between Northern Kingdoms and Nilfgaard. The Witcher 3 (2015) starts in 1272. Emperor of the Nilfgaard ask Geralt to find Ciri, who followed by mythical Wild Hunt. Witcher 3 is great because it is bigger, better, more technologicaly advanced in every aspects. Witcher 1 and 2 are good too, but didn't have large budgets and had way more small sales.
my personal favorite is the first game. although really hard to figure out what to do next. they really streamlined questing in witcher 3. the older games weren't as noob friendly id say.
Funnily enough the Witcher 1 cinematic, the striga fight, is in places more accurate and faithful recreation of the book events than the netflix show episode :) hehe, the short story The Witcher details the fight and the cinematic basically recreates it: "Ostrit did not hear the scrape of the tomb lid being moved aside, but the witcher did. He leant over and, with his dagger, cut the magnate's bonds. Ostrit did not wait for the word. He jumped up, numb, hobbled clumsily, and ran. His eyes had grown accustomed enough to the darkness for him to see his way from the main hall to the exit. The slab blocking the entrance to the crypt opened and fell to the floor with a thud. Geralt, prudently behind the staircase balustrade, saw the misshapen figure of the striga speeding swiftly and unerringly in the direction of Ostrit's receeding footsteps. Not the slightest sound issued from the striga. A terrible, quivering, frenzied scream tore the night, shook the old walls, continued rising and falling, vibrating. The witcher couldn't make out exactly how far away it was - his sharpened hearing deceived him - but he knew that the striga had caught up with Ostrit quickly. Too quickly. He stepped into the middle of the hall, stood right at the entrance to the crypt. He threw down his coat, twitched his shoulders, adjusted the position of his sword, pulled on his gauntlets. He still had some time. He knew that the striga, although well fed after the last full moon, would not readily abandon Ostrit's corpse. The heart and liver were, for her, valuable reserves of nutrition for the long periods spent in lethargic sleep. The witcher waited. By his count, there were about three hours left until dawn. The cock's crow could only mislead him. Besides, there were probably no cocks in the neighbourhood. He heard her. She was trudging slowly, shuffling along the floor. And then he saw her. The description had been accurate. The disproportionately large head set on a short neck was surrounded by a tangled, curly halo of reddish hair. Her eyes shone in the darkness like an animal's. The striga stood motionless, her gaze fixed on Geralt. Suddenly she opened her jaws - as if proud of her rows of pointed white teeth - then snapped them shut with a crack like a chest being closed. And leapt, slashing at the witcher with her bloodied claws. Geralt jumped to the side, spun a swift pirouette. The striga rubbed against him, also spun around, slicing through the air with her talons. She didn't lose her balance and attacked anew, mid-spin, gnashing her teeth fractions of an inch from Geralt's chest. The Rivian jumped away, changing the direction of his spin with a fluttering pirouette to confuse the striga. As he leapt away he dealt a hard blow to the side of her head with the silver spikes studding the knuckles of his gauntlet. The striga roared horribly, filling the palace with a booming echo, fell to the ground, froze and started to howl hollowly and furiously. The witcher smiled maliciously. His first attempt, as he had hoped, had gone well. Silver was fatal to the striga, as it was for most monsters brought into existence through magic. So there was a chance: the beast was like the others, and that boded well for lifting the spell, while the silver sword would, as a last resort, assure his life. The striga was in no hurry with her next attack. She approached slowly, baring her fangs, dribbling repulsively. Geralt backed away and, carefully placing his feet, traced a semi-circle. By slowing and quickening his movements he distracted the striga, making it difficult for her to leap. As he walked the witcher unwound a long, strong silver chain, weighted at the end. The moment the striga tensed and leapt the chain whistled through the air and, coiling like a snake, twined itself around the monster's shoulders, neck and head. The striga's jump became a tumble, and she let out an ear-piercing whistle. She thrashed around on the floor, howling horribly with fury or from the burning pain inflicted by the despised metal. Geralt was content - if he wanted he could kill the striga without great difficulty. But the witcher did not draw his sword. Nothing in the striga's behaviour had given him reason to think she might be an incurable case. Geralt moved to a safer distance and, without letting the writhing shape on the floor out of his sight, breathed deeply, focused himself. The chain snapped. The silver links scattered like rain in all directions, ringing against the stone. The striga, blind with fury, tumbled to the attack, roaring. Geralt waited calmly and, with his raised right hand, traced the Sign of Aard in front of him. The striga fell back as if hit by a mallet but kept her feet, extended her talons, bared her fangs. Her hair stood on end and fluttered as if she were walking against a fierce wind. With difficulty, one rasping step at a time, she slowly advanced. But she did advance. Geralt grew uneasy. He did not expect such a simple Sign to paralyse the striga entirely but neither did he expect the beast to overcome it so easily. He could not hold the Sign for long, it was too exhausting, and the striga had no more than ten steps to go. He lowered the Sign suddenly, and sprung aside. The striga, taken by surprise, flew forward, lost her balance, fell, slid along the floor and tumbled down the stairs into the crypt's entrance, yawning in the floor. Her infernal scream reverberated from below. To gain time Geralt jumped on to the stairs leading to the gallery. He had not even climbed halfway up when the striga ran out of the crypt, speeding along like an enormous black spider. The witcher waited until she had run up the stairs after him, then leapt over the balustrade. The striga turned on the stairs, sprang and flew at him in an amazing ten-metre leap. She did not let herself be deceived by his pirouettes this time; twice her talons left their mark on the Rivian's leather tunic. But another desperately hard blow from the silver spiked gauntlet threw the striga aside, shook her. Geralt, feeling fury building inside him, swayed, bent backwards and, with a mighty kick, knocked the beast off her legs. " Now tell me that the cinematic is not a perfect way to visualize this scene :) hehe. In general all three witcher games are in some way, especially in terms of worldbuilding, story, character portrayal, and general feel and atmosphere of witcher world the best adaptation of the books, even though the games are actually unofficial sequels to books (netflix show adapts the books more or less).
You should check out the cinematic trailers for Elder Scrolls Online. There’s a super cut that turns the first four trailers into a short movie, then there’s two stand alone trailers (Morrowind and Summerset) and then they went back to an overarching storyline with Elsweyr having three trailers and Greymoor having two so far. They’re done really well and makes me wish they actually make a movie out of it with the characters they’ve shown. There’s a video that has all of them except for the newest one

Big guy in last vid...Letho, School of the Viper. Depending on the ending in this game, he may or may not show up in Witcher 3. Badass, very much so. Head belongs to King Demavend of Aedirn...first king assassinated in the 2nd game...one of the reasons it's titled Assassin of KINGS.
1st part of Witcher is the most focused on the novels, the real strenth of the game was story. The 2nd was much better in gameplay but the sory was not so good and was only inspired by novels and the story was well... not so thrilling. And the 3rd part is also inspired by novels, but the sotry is a masterpiece, the gameplay is superb, and the world is just... living world, with many random encouters, many sidequests that you just get into by roaming the world on Roach. Like you randomly ride to the town and the people are crying because some monster is killing their relatives and you can just go and kill the moster and it's just a little break in the middle of the main quest. It makes you just feel the world and the life of Geralt on the trail.
Story is nice in all Witcher games. W2 have 5 endings (3 Rochea 2 lorwerth) , w3 3 endings. Witcher 3 is just much bigger and more polished . Witcher 1 is totally different in gameplay-is liniar (you have just some location open and others will open when you finish previos one ). In big big shortcut
Actually W3 has at least 10 complex endings as a combination of Skellige succession, conclusion of war on the continent, result of Geralt´s love triangle and fate of Ciri.
The reason Witcher 3 is so beloved is because compared to the earlier games it's much bigger and more open. In previous games you would follow the main story and occasionally do some side activities and quests. In the third one there is a big open world where you can just take a break from the main story and travel around, take contracts to slay monsters, do small side stories, look for treasure, discover small villages and old ruins, and so on. It's also a rare example of open world games where the side quests have as much complexity and quality in the writing as the main story. Even the smallest, simplest quest has interesting characters and some sort of moral dillema. In most games side activities are usually much simpler and streight forward then that.
Witcher 3 is the best because it has a massive open world, amazing storytelling and plenty of side content. Witcher 2 story wise was pretty good as well, though it was annoying that your choices had little impact upon the world when going into Witcher 3. Lastly I enjoyed playing through Witcher 1 for story and lore, but the first act is a chore (especially the devil dog boss at the end) and the gameplay is clunky so I added mods that let you cheat the game with extra skill points.
The bald guy in the last trailer who killed the king is Letho, a witcher from the school of the viper, he serves as the primary antagonist of the second game and Geralt investigates why is he after the kings, as witchers should not take contracts to kill humans, especially not kings as they are meant to be apolitical At the start of the gameplay trailer for the second game, Geralt and Triss are discussing the ending of the first game when a different witcher assassin tried killing King Foltest, but thanks to Geralt's inteference failed

Not sure if anybody already commented this, but the games contain flashbacks about Geralt, Yennefer and all. Those flahbacks are some spoilers for the show or the books. I.e. all game story happens after the story in the books and it looks like the show is following the book story line. Hey Hannah, I hope you get to play Witcher 3 one day. It's the best game ever made in my opinion. The writing and story is incredible. I'll never forget " the bloody Baron" questline.
Bloody Baron is so damn good, it's story telling taken to a complete another level, not just in videogames. Just that story deserves a Hollywood movie.
Video games, movies and tv shows have inspired a new genre of music called nerdcore. The YT channel Miracle of Sound has songs based on Geralt and Ciri. They've also done other games and shows. They did some for some Game of Thrones characters too.
4:04 "Ew, is her tongue hairy?" I'd guess the tongue has barbs on it like a cat. Many large breeds of cats, like lions and leopards, can strip bits of meat off bones by licking it off. They also help with grooming their fur.
That was from witcher 2. Gerald wasn't in it cause gerald doesn't slay kings. That was a Witcher called Letho. He is not a wolf school witcher he is a Viper school witcher and he kills kings and delivers it to the kingdom who wants that king dead. Choices made in the game can change the story for who dies and lives and then the missions going with story are easier or more hard depending on a person gameplay.
Late to the conversation still, but to give some perspective, the first game was released in 2007, the next in 2011, and the third (the one that has repeatedly shocked you with its quality and ability to pull you in), 2015. Yes, 5 years ago. 5 years ago, CD Project Red created something very nearly cinematic in its gameplay, let alone it's full-motion trailers. Makes me very excited for CP2077 and the upcoming animated Witcher movie on Netflix.
Game prequels are like art, sometimes the first draft isn't the most refined, it could be that the world it's set in needs to mature more or that characters need refining, the Witcher 3 in a way was, reimagined updated and expanded upon what came before that It became a near perfect game, one of a handful really that made it! I suppose some others are uncharted, red dead redemption 2 and the Elderscrolls Oblivion/ morrowind, Oblivion is literally my spirit animal though! I love that game! ✨
7:18 Thats how he was looking like in books. Slim, but strong. Not like Cavill the barbarian from Netflix show. Netflix creation is actually VERY inacurate representation of what was in the books, and stories. You may say anything you want, but original polish witcher TV series even with garbage FX (they were bad even for its time) was way better production than Netflix one.
In my opinion, the world that created the "Cd Project Red" team in their games is more realistic and logical than the scribbles of the fun Netflix team. And it was enough to stick only to what was written in the books, of course I do not say that 100% of what is written there, but mostly. Ps: Yes Yennefer with red hair(she dyed her hair) XD
Basically, all the games take place well after the show. They're basically sequels to the books. In the first game, Geralt appears after having been who knows where after many years, and he's lost his memory. Doesn't know anyone, or anything. Second game, he's still not gotten his memories, but has pretty much re-established himself in the world. However, he gets framed for killing a king and spends all of the game trying to clear his name by chasing the king killer and getting his memories back along the way. Third game, he's got his memories back, and his goal is to find Yennefer and Ciri to save her from the Wild Hunt. Those are the main stories of the games, but since the games are larger then just the main story, as you explore you'll experience other stories as well. Especially in the third one. The explorable world spans multiple continents, so there's a lot to experience.
@@HannaHsOverInvested Well, I'd say it's all canon. Well, except the show if what I've heard about it is true. I heard changes a lot of things in its retelling of the books while the games just continue the story of the books instead. For example, choosing to tell the story with 3 simultaneous character timelines instead of just doing it normally like the books did. You only see Yennefer in the books at the very end of the first book, and you know nothing about her backstory. It's the first time Geralt and Yennefer meet. Ciri isn't even a thing in the first book.
Ok, so, that guy in the last Trailer, Letho, is another witcher, of the Viper school, and for reasons that get explained in game, he is going around, assassinating kings. Another member of his school attempted to kill King Foltest, and Geralt winds up in the middle of it all. The redhead is either Triss, or Shani, I can't remember which, Shani being a relatively minor character in the books.
The first video, the clash with the striga, the succession of events, and the appearance of the striga, is very faithful to the book. In the video they cut the last part: Geralt is wounded in the neck almost mortally by the girl's nails, but before passing out, he bites her in the neck in return, until she gives up and starts to cry, like a normal child of 14 years.
I think the appeal of these types of games is trying to navigate a morally gray world and seeing the ramifications of your decisions. Like real life, it's difficult to weigh your choices when there's no right answer so you just try to do your best. It really puts you in the protagonist's shoes as he struggles with trying to figure out the right choice.
As much as I like these games you've been reacting to (which cater specifically to folks like myself that've been playing games all our lives), perhaps you'd like something a little different? I can't believe I never saw that second trailer. I like Geralts appearance more in The Witcher 3, but his appearance in those first cinematic trailers were definitely interesting in a good way, and, from what I understand, more accurate to the books.
So, in the last trailer, that big dude who mopped the floor with everyone is Letho, a witcher of the Viper School. (Geralt belongs to the Wolf School. There are many schools of Witchers, and they're all fading. How each school deals with their decline is one of the many fascinating things about the Witcher universe. Their responses are all very different). Letho was contracted by the Emperor of Nilfgaard to assassinate Northern kings (hence the title of Witcher 2, Assassin of Kings) in return for a permanent home for his order of Witchers. This trailer shows Letho killing Demavend, king of Aedirn (one of the Northern Kingdoms). When the game starts, Demavend is already dead, and the other Northern kings are afraid. The assassin that tried to kill Foltest, but was stopped by Geralt, was another Witcher of the Viper School working with Letho. It's the intro cinematic to the 2nd game.
Witcher 1-3 is a continous story and as graphics also improved they are looking better and better. Also the latest part Wichter 3 is so much larger than the parts before. And yes, the lady with the red hairs is Triss Merigold - she has a much bigger part in the games than in the books.
I think the Striga reminded you of Blanka from Street Frighter. What makes the gaming franchise so great is that CD Projekt Red always improves the next installment on all levels whether its techical, storyies/narratives,gameplay and game mechanics or graphics. At all times they go for the highest quality possible which saw its highpoint in The Witcher III Wild Hunt, and most importantly the actual do learn from previous "error´s". Its not a empty phrase as how it is with 99,9% percent of corporations.
Witcher 3 is the best simply because is the newest one, first two games had also a great story but the limitations of hardware and game engine of the past is very noticable. The graphics, gameplay and story in W3 is top even for today standarts and it's a 6 years old game. Also my favorite because it continues the story from first two games that are not "canon" (with your choices/savefile), as well as following where novels left of, i.e. Ciri. Also last trailer was about Letho (the assassin of kings) that is killing kings on order of Nilfgard emperor, Geralt is on Foldest castle in the same room when Letho kills Foltest and Geralt is acused of his murder, therefore go on a hunt to find Letho and clear his name, W2 in a nuttshell :)
The Witcher 1 ( released 2007) was CDPR's first attempt at game development. Prior to that, they were a game distribution company. With each iteration of the The Witcher, they got better at what they do. TW3 is widely regarded as a, for lack of a better term, masterpiece. For reasons I'm sure many commentors have already pointed out.
Just an FYI - Geralt is around 100 years old by the end of season 1. Yenn is 80ish. The redhead in the tub is Triss and spoilers say that the actress has been seen with a more reddish hair color. Apparently magical burns cause your hair to turn redder? 🤷♀️ [Just a guess]
Feel like you'll find this funny: in Witcher 2, you can accidentally get blackout drunk and wake up with a hanus neck tattoo. It's Foltest's army symbol above a naked lady brandishing a sword. You can have a mage remove it, but if you forget to do so, and if you then use the save file for your Witcher 3 game, the tattoo stays, and can no longer be removed. Temarian tiddy-sword lady haunts you forever.
In terms of an overall experience, The Witcher 3 is the best one! The Witcher 1 was honestly very very difficult to experience for me due to how dated it was. They all did a wonderful job with storytelling, but what's important when it's a game is the overall experience of playing it, which is what makes The Witcher 3 stand out so much!
that man who killed king demavend in the witcher 2 cinematic opening (trailer) was letho of gulet his a witcher from the school of viper you can kill him in the witcher 2 but if you spare him he will return in the witcher 3.
Out of curiosity, would you be interested in music inspired by games and universes like the Witcher or would you rather stick to more visual experiences? Edit: and bloody hell, I almost forgot to ask. Have you considered checking out the Soulsborne games (Demon's Souls, Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, Sekiro)?
@@HannaHsOverInvested I imagine that channel was either Miracle of Sound or Aviators, in either case, I'd also recommend the other one. If you haven't heard of those games I'd highly recommend them for another trailer-watching spree. Maybe start with Dark Souls? It's a three game series like Witcher and it's probably the most widely acclaimed one. I admit I'd be curious how you react to the contrast: DS is a lot different in both story and storytelling. It takes place in a much more... mythological setting where the scale of things is a lot more God of War than Witcher but the characters you play - different protagonist in each game - are essentially small fry performing deeds of mythical proportions, prolonging or ending the age of the gods, through sheer perseverance. To showcase it, it and every other Soulsborne game, even has a mechanic that ties death into the gameplay: in the case of Dark Souls, you play as protagonist who were cursed with "undeath", a condition that revives them upon dying but causes their humanity to gradually seep away with each iteration, or "hollowing" as the lore calls it. The games are famously hard and they consist a lot of "die and try again" instances without breaking immersion with quickloads or game over screens which is quite nice. And as for the storytelling: it's a lot less straightforward and mostly requires you to piece tidbits of lore together as you explore the mythical setting - it always reminded me of archeology a bit, reconstructing the past through glimmers of lore you can collect until you have the full picture. With that said, though, I'd highly recommend watching the intro cinematics first for each game just to get yourself at least a little bit oriented. Neither one is longer than the trailers. Assassination of Kings, that was a sort of renegade Witcher called Letho who is assassinating kings for someone, our Witcher, or marshmallow .as you call him. gets inadvertently blamed for some of the assassinations..........
Why did nobody recommend her "The World" witcher 2 trailer, which sets the geopolitical context? - Witcher 1: Monster Hunter gets raided at his School of the Wolf homebase; uncovers a larger conspiracy; indirectly helps a King, learns about some prophecy. - Witcher 2: Under employ of the same King, after the death of another king (who was a former ally in a Coalition of Northern Realms with 2 Wars against Nilfgaard Empire). A tragic incident unfolds, Chapter 2 sets the pace in choices which will lead to 2 very different life-paths (and 2 different yet fascinating Companions with their grey areas, and also with completely distinct game areas and choices (great for replayability)) and in total: 16 possible Endings with subplot variations. - Witcher 3: What was implicitely implied in Witcher 2, politically speaking, amongst the different factions you've encountered, becomes factual. Choices made in TW2 can be transferred via Save-File to TW3, or you can make "some" of the main choices as you go in the beginning of the game. The Intro scene of TW3 tells a lot about the main plot of TW3, if you get the LORE surrounding the Witcher Universe.
It's actually really sad hearing all the people, who didn't read the books, talking about what they saw in the newest Witcher show, comparing it to the games etc. For the fuck's sake! First, there were books. Then, three games (before The Witcher 1 existed another game, but it doesn't anymore). Between books and games, there still exists a polish version of The Witcher show, which is more accurate to the books, than the newest (netflix version is a joke, because it contains all the bad shit that people came up with, such as more black people and an american theme of the world). And, of course, the netflix version is not accurate and it proves the fact, that americans should stick their noses into slavic stuff...
It's really sad seeing people who are so die hard for a story that they can't appreciate it finding new audiences. Also super sad that they get so worked up about it, they can't understand that an show made with a diverse audience in mind should be diverse.
@@HannaHsOverInvested You say that a new show should be diverse... Witcher is already diverse, thanks to games, and netflix just made it different and worse... Making it like that to get new fans? That's actually the way the americans do everything - destroy and do remake, with poor effects and inaccurate story. The only thing, that I enjoyed about the netlfix show, was Henry Cavil, because his performance was awesome.
The witcher 3 is based after the story from the books while the witcher 1 and 2 take place periodically throught the whole story focusing on highlights
Funny that most of these bad accurances are because of one individual !(in the games at least...) Gaunter o'dimm I remember his anouncment trailer in gwent was about him being behind litteraly every war and curse that was ever happened in witcher universe ... Wonder if they actually include him in netflix series Since he is the fan favourite character
He is not in the books or novels. He is strictly a CDPR character added to the games and had became the fan favourite character ! It would be pretty cool if they include him in the netflix series; however Gaunter O'Dimm would be extremely hard to include. Being the god-tier-time-manipulator literally name called evil incarnate, he would basically make the other enemies geralt face look like childs play. He is basicly the god of witcher universe. Who knows ! Maybe they'll add him ... not in season 2 or 3 but probably will. If you like to know more about this individual i suggest you see the secrets of gaunter o dimm video , not as a reaction or anything but as taking another step to understand the witcher universe. Will probably come in handy when watching the netflix series.
Excited about the show? What about the piece of outstanding and clever literature. You should try books if you're interested in The Witcher as a whole! If not for the reason of having fun with books, just to put things into perspective when it comes to adaptation.

Its one of the beautiful things when you look outside the classical western entertainment, where there are so many places in the world (eastern Europe is one of those) where stories also can have bad/sad ending where the good guys arent victorious.
This Geralt is the closest to the books. Although I love the design in 3, it took away the creepy and pale Geralt, which I preferred more.

In the "Letho" trailer, they're showing one of Letho's previous assassinations before he went after Foltest. It was just a cinematic trailer to show a bit more background on him. He's one of the major antagonists in the 2nd Witcher game.
Also a nice tip of thw Witcher 2 cinematic is the atention to detail, how one of the fighter is quite nervious and bows twice or why the bowman who previously is shown as super skilled missed both arrows (First one the mast fell when he was about to shoot and messed his aim, on the second one he was already too close to the target allowing Letho to predict it and dodge , later even Letho admits he was lucky on that assasination)

to answer your question:
the first game in the series was the very first game that CDProjekt RED had developed a game, prior to that they were solely a publisher, in terms of the story it was amazing but in terms of gameplay it was somewhat basic in comparison to other similar games of it's kind around that time that was partially down to technical limitations of the time but also down to them bulding something from scratch and it being their first time, the second game in the franchise was significantly better in terms of gameplay features etc but still had some of the underlying issues the first game had but again story was still really well done, the third game has been critically acclaimed for very good reason, the story is amazing, especially the 2 expansions that added so much more to the story and were beautiful in their own right, the game still has some of the fundamental issues the others had but overall it was a marked improvement over the previous 2, and overall there's no other game in the same genre that comes close to the witcher 3 in terms of depth and quality, there's a huge amount of attention to detail with plenty of nods to pop culture and other things in some of the quests/place names/item names etc, and there's still missed details being discovered today even though the game is now 5 years old.

Right. But there is an amnesia part for people who dont want to go to the beginning right? Isn't that why they did that in the game story?
Oh it was the sister shtupper! Oh big G is framed! I wonder if that story line will make it into the show!
@@HannaHsOverInvested Not sure. The producers seem to be avoiding the stuff from the games as much as possible but they have borrowed a bit. For example the music in the show is very evocative of the music in the games, especially the witcher 3 but I don't know if that's intentional.

So by definition they cannot use them as they do not have a copyright for those unless they also make a deal with CDPR. However if the show turns out a major success with 5-10 seasons in sight, I don't see why such a deal would not be made at some point.
And the way Witcher books ends, close almost all threads in satysfaing way. Except wild hunt maybe. I will not write more to not spoil.
She didn’t bite him in the show, she slashed him in the throat and he bit her to get her off him.
Oh.... why did I remember biting... thats weird... Maybe her teeth were just dutty and I was remembering that.
HannaH's Over Invested it’s cause it’s a wide shot when she slashed him but a close up when he bites her neck to get her off him
Witcher 1, 2, 3 continue a story from the books (first two books = first season of the show).
Its really cool to see, visually, how the trailers/games have evolved.
my personal favorite is the first game. although really hard to figure out what to do next. they really streamlined questing in witcher 3. the older games weren't as noob friendly id say.
Liked for the "Insert fat stick joke"!
Funnily enough the Witcher 1 cinematic, the striga fight, is in places more accurate and faithful recreation of the book events than the netflix show episode :) hehe, the short story The Witcher details the fight and the cinematic basically recreates it:
"Ostrit did not hear the scrape of the tomb lid being moved aside, but the witcher did. He leant
over and, with his dagger, cut the magnate's bonds.
Geralt,
prudently behind the staircase balustrade, saw the misshapen figure of the striga speeding swiftly and unerringly in the direction of Ostrit's receeding footsteps. Not the slightest sound issued from the striga.
A terrible, quivering, frenzied scream tore the night, shook the old walls, continued rising and
falling, vibrating. The witcher couldn't make out exactly how far away it was - his sharpened hearing deceived him - but he knew that the striga had caught up with Ostrit quickly. Too quickly.
He stepped into the middle of the hall, stood right at the entrance to the crypt. He threw down
his coat, twitched his shoulders, adjusted the position of his sword, pulled on his gauntlets.
The cock's
crow could only mislead him. Besides, there were probably no cocks in the neighbourhood.
He heard her. She was trudging slowly, shuffling along the floor. And then he saw her.
The description had been accurate. The disproportionately large head set on a short neck was
surrounded by a tangled, curly halo of reddish hair.
The striga rubbed against him, also spun
around, slicing through the air with her talons. She didn't lose her balance and attacked anew, mid-spin, gnashing her teeth fractions of an inch from Geralt's chest. The Rivian jumped away, changing the direction of his spin with a fluttering pirouette to confuse the striga. As he leapt away he dealt a hard blow to the side of her head with the silver spikes studding the
knuckles of his gauntlet.
The striga roared horribly, filling the palace with a booming echo, fell to the ground, froze
and started to howl hollowly and furiously.
The witcher smiled maliciously. His first attempt, as he had hoped, had gone well. Silver was
fatal to the striga, as it was for most monsters brought into existence through magic.
The moment the striga tensed and leapt the chain whistled through the air and, coiling like a
snake, twined itself around the monster's shoulders, neck and head.
The silver links scattered like rain in all directions, ringing against the
stone.
He did not expect such a simple Sign to paralyse the striga entirely but
neither did he expect the beast to overcome it so easily.
To gain time Geralt jumped on to the stairs leading to the
gallery. He had not even climbed halfway up when the striga ran out of the crypt, speeding
along like an enormous black spider. The witcher waited until she had run up the stairs after
him, then leapt over the balustrade. Geralt, feeling fury
building inside him, swayed, bent backwards and, with a mighty kick, knocked the beast off
her legs. " Now tell me that the cinematic is not a perfect way to visualize this scene :) hehe. In general all three witcher games are in some way, especially in terms of worldbuilding, story, character portrayal, and general feel and atmosphere of witcher world the best adaptation of the books, even though the games are actually unofficial sequels to books (netflix show adapts the books more or less).
haha I am actually reading the book.
I find this last trailer so good, one of the bestest in my opinion.
It was good.
@@HannaHsOverInvested No. It was one of the bestest.

Haven't seen the trailers, but they sound good. Now if TES games themselves wouldn't be snorefests storywise...
It's such a joy to watch your reactiona and hear your opinions, thank you for sharing them! X3
On the games:
Personally I liked all three games storywise and based on my enjoyment I would rate the third game first, the first game second and the second game last. I think Witcher 3 is so praised becase the developers hab already gained expereince in the two previous games and could put it all into making this incredible grad finale! :D additionally the technology progressed so the game was made visually stunning!X0 I litterally spend the first hour or two running around and looking at my surrounding when started playing. Additionally the gameplay itself just peeked and combined with the beautiful soundtrack AND amazing wiritng ! It was just such a joy X3
Thank you!! That is so kind.
Geralt is almost 100 years old, so yeah. He can look old
😂🤣 Henry Cavil does NOT look like that.
@@HannaHsOverInvested if you want to know more about witcher there are 8 books writen by Sapkowski + 1 writen by fans. Btw i think that Netflix Witcher could be better if they stick more to the books, i am telling this as a fan of books and games- they are way better than this show. (If you would read them, you would know) So if you decide to read original books, than i wish you a happy lecture. You are not going to be disapointed;)
Got it! Thank you!
Ahh cool! Thanks for the info!
OH okay! Thanks!
The bald guy in the last trailer who killed the king is Letho, a witcher from the school of the viper, he serves as the primary antagonist of the second game and Geralt investigates why is he after the kings, as witchers should not take contracts to kill humans, especially not kings as they are meant to be apolitical
At the start of the gameplay trailer for the second game, Geralt and Triss are discussing the ending of the first game when a different witcher assassin tried killing King Foltest, but thanks to Geralt's inteference failed
Oh cool!
I think, the striga looks a little bit like Blanka from Street Fighter

Not sure if anybody already commented this, but the games contain flashbacks about Geralt, Yennefer and all. Those flahbacks are some spoilers for the show or the books. I.e. all game story happens after the story in the books and it looks like the show is following the book story line. So if anyone is interested in watching the show or reading the books I would recommend in doing that before starting the games.

HannaH's Over Invested in certainly not bothered by it, and I agree; the last trailer was the best.
Hey Hannah, I hope you get to play Witcher 3 one day. It's the best game ever made in my opinion. The writing and story is incredible. I'll never forget " the bloody Baron" questline.
One day! But now yet.
Bloody Baron is so damn good, it's story telling taken to a complete another level, not just in videogames.
Just that story deserves a Hollywood movie.
cyberpunk 2077 will take the throne from witcher 3, i hope.
And it was a story line heavily inspired by the French folktale "Bluebeard"
Video games, movies and tv shows have inspired a new genre of music called nerdcore. The YT channel Miracle of Sound has songs based on Geralt and Ciri. They've also done other games and shows. They did some for some Game of Thrones characters too.
Someone else told me about this. Thats pretty cool.
4:04 "Ew, is her tongue hairy?"
I'd guess the tongue has barbs on it like a cat. Many large breeds of cats, like lions and leopards, can strip bits of meat off bones by licking it off. They also help with grooming their fur.
The striga fight in the video is closer to how it was described in the books, then how they show it in the series.
Very very close to how it was described in the books!
the cinematic video you saw was put online in 2012 but the game is from 2006/7, so its 13 years old.
An animated Witcher movie?!?!?!?!? OMG I am SO down for that.
@@HannaHsOverInvested Last I read, Q4 2020 - Q12021.
How to know what monster it reminds you of? It's a striga tho..
It doesn't matter whether a material is faithful to the source or not. All that matters is the end product is good or not.
@@phoenixj1299 well it isn't
In my opinion, the world that created the "Cd Project Red" team in their games is more realistic and logical than the scribbles of the fun Netflix team. And it was enough to stick only to what was written in the books, of course I do not say that 100% of what is written there, but mostly.
Ps: Yes Yennefer with red hair(she dyed her hair) XD
Some people are telling me its Triss...
@@HannaHsOverInvested it's Triss, don't trust him.
noughty noughty Ps :) but rest 100% true
Oh okay cool! So even if I watch the show and read the books... There is still more story..
What counts as canon?
OKay! Thanks!!
If you like nice classical music, you should check out the witcher 3 concert. Playing all the music of the 3rd game.
This sparks joy
I appreciate you.
@@HannaHsOverInvested 😊
The first video, the clash with the striga, the succession of events, and the appearance of the striga, is very faithful to the book.
In the video they cut the last part: Geralt is wounded in the neck almost mortally by the girl's nails, but before passing out, he bites her in the neck in return, until she gives up and starts to cry, like a normal child of 14 years.
Yes. The show did that, or a variation.
Geralt as a boy was augmented with alchemy and mutagens. That's witchers are called mutants and freaks.
Those are the best stories.
As much as I like these games you've been reacting to (which cater specifically to folks like myself that've been playing games all our lives), perhaps you'd like something a little different? Here's some that are specifically more narrative-forward:

Hahahaha thanks team!!
2:55 The Striga in Witcher 1 reminds me of Blanka from the Street Fighter games.
A few people have said that!
this 2012 trailer was a masterpiece at a time imo.
It's the intro cinematic to the 2nd game.
thank you!!
Witcher 1-3 is a continous story and as graphics also improved they are looking better and better.
Also the latest part Wichter 3 is so much larger than the parts before.
And yes, the lady with the red hairs is Triss Merigold - she has a much bigger part in the games than in the books.
Ahhh well. I hope my twin stays around in the show.
Well... It doesn't remind me cause I have no idea what street fighter is hahah! But many people have said that!
This is the assassins of kings like the title. It's one of Geralt's biggest enemys is the witcher 2
The guy at the end who killed that king is one of Geralt's peers. Another witcher, named Letho.
Witcher 1 was out in 2007 . The enhance edition came out in 2009 . Witcher 2 release date was in 2011
Noted! Thanks!
I like Triss better when she looks like me.
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 that's so weird and hilarious!!!
7:14
Witcher mutations, witcher training and 2009 graphics will do that to you.
😂🤣
The striga here reminds me of Blanka from Street Fighter lol
I had to google that, haha thats a funny comparison!
that man who killed king demavend in the witcher 2 cinematic opening (trailer) was letho of gulet his a witcher from the school of viper you can kill him in the witcher 2 but if you spare him he will return in the witcher 3.
I haven't heard of those but someone did tell me about a channel that creates music inspired by games.

Apologies for the overwhelmingly long answer, have a nice day!
You should check out the star wars the old republic cinematics in chronological order there are alot of them so plenty of content
So many people have asked for that, I think I will have to move it up the list.
Last one was over 4 mins long? Gosh, it felt like 30 - 40 seconds... That's how i know its good
u gotta react to the Overwatch cinematics for example: Dragons or For Honor or Alive, all of blizzards cinematics are pretty damn good
***insert shit eating grin because I filmed them yesterday***
@@HannaHsOverInvested Nice ! All blizzard cinematics are really good especially the overwatch and world of warcraft ones and wow is one of the few games that has a really good story like the witcher. I would reccomend old soldier/reckoning and lost honour for the last expansion or the expansion trailers in general (You already watched bfa so maybe Legion/Warlords of draenor)
@@HannaHsOverInvested *gasp* i can't wait! i don't think you can go wrong with blizzard cinematics (world of warcraft, overwatch, starcraft, diablo) they have been always looking good for their time and lately they are visually stunning. i didn't see anyone recommend starcraft 2 cinematics so i would recommend those aswell - wings of liberty, heart of swarm, legacy of the void (those are the 3 main cinematics for star craft 2)
is her book anygood ?
My Goodreads score is pretty high...
@@HannaHsOverInvested wasn't expecting a response from you , gonna buy the audio book and leave a review down here :)
I would greatly appreciate that!
I would recommend watching the world of Warcraft trailers called 'Harbingers' and 'Warbringers'.
The only thing, that I enjoyed about the netlfix show, was Henry Cavil, because his performance was awesome.
bathtub scen was a huge spoiler for u😅 .... it's the reason i choose Yen over Triss !
A spoiler for what?
@@HannaHsOverInvested want me to spill the beans? 😄
I'll do it if you want though!
I will choose Yen always becouse of books. 😍
@@Vry9 you sir are a man of culture !🙂👍🏻
The witcher 3 is based after the story from the books while the witcher 1 and 2 take place periodically throught the whole story focusing on highlights
That last trailer has more parts to it you meet everyone's favorite elf lol
More parts? Like more to this story?
@@HannaHsOverInvested yeah
@@HannaHsOverInvested you see what were he takes the head
@@HannaHsOverInvested its not part of the trailor always thought it was my bad The Witcher 2 Iorveth Meets Letho, the Kingslayer my bad
According to wikipedia Geralt is around 90 - 100 years old.
Funny that most of these bad accurances are because of one individual !(in the games at least...)
Gaunter o'dimm
I remember his anouncment trailer in gwent was about him being behind litteraly every war and curse that was ever happened in witcher universe ...
Wonder if they actually include him in netflix series
Since he is the fan favourite character
When does he show up in the books?
I am actually starting a book club on the channel. Or at least a book series. The first video goes up tomorrow and I do talk about the last wish.
HannaH's Over Invested Great! I’m looking forward to hear your thoughts on it.
Ah yes Letho my man, The big withcer guy is the kingslayer, he killed Foltest and Geralt was framed into that, action on the boat is before the witcher 2 starts.
I wonder if we will get that story line in Witcher season 2
@@HannaHsOverInvested i don't think so, there is a lot to show before plot of games, and the show is based on books i think there's gonna be 2 more seasons based on books
@@suuijin26 got it! I'm just starting the first book now.
