I've been subscribed for years Doug. I live in a more rural area so the need for a car is paramount. But man if I could do away with insurance and 2 car payments my pockets would feel fat. Kind of jealous in a way.
Doug, Good For You! You mentioned you have an Electric Bike. Maybe you can find a basket for the front and back of it, for some grocery shopping!!! Good Luck!
I actually agree with you. Ever since the pandemic I order everything online. I still have to be the Uber for my grandkids but truthfully I rarely use my car for anything else. Makes sense.
I admire you Doug for taking a chance. People have talked behind my back because I bought a Ram Promaster and I'm turning it into a Camper Van. I am doing it for a couple of reasons. 1- I have been watching these builds for the last 2 to 3 years and I wanted to do it myself even though I'm 58. 2- My brother isn't well physically and basically he depends on me to help him, so if I ever need to have somewhere to live other than my house to save money. I have it. I applaud you Doug. Love your channel!
We did that for about 11 months once but we also live in a downtown area so it was easy. Our car had died and we just decided to see how long we could go. :) You can do it! Just think of all the $ you safe and you don't have to worry about maintenance, gas, insurance...all that. Nice!
I look forward to hearing about your journey being car free! I have a friend who went car free a few years ago in Chicago which has great public transit. I want to hear about how you do being car free in a southern city.
good for you i gave up my car also five years now i walk everywhere and take buses i love it and for groceries get yourself a shopping cart yes they make them for men also lol i dont get produce delivered i like to pick my own good luck with your journey
If u rarely use your car then i think u will be ok! Plus it will give u a reason to walk if theres like a dollar general nearby for a few items. Good exercise! Like we did in NY lol. Ive never used the grocery delivery thing because the prices go up from what ive been told but when u think about the savings from neverending car payments and insurance.. its so worth it!
I do online ordering for groceries and Walmart. Most do your initial purchase order for free with perks to see which you prefer. I like Walmart because they’re near but twice they delivered to the wrong address. They refunded me but it was the hassle of not getting my items and waiting 5 days for my refund. I’ve rented trough Turo if I’ve needed a car for multiple errands or when I need to transport large items. I brought a bike needed to get it home
I personally just bought an e-bike to commute back and forth to work because a car was outrageous. Then the other reasons I had were exactly what you mentioned, car insurance, registration fees, inspection, repairs and fuel.
I can't wait to see this new experiences with you. I wish we could do the same. The insurances prices and car notes too. Big ups. Yes, can't wait until you join us in the electric car world.
Oh I don't know my brother what about picking up your kid and taking him places I guess you can use Uber what about do you need to get somewhere real fast but you got depend on somebody else to come get you ????
I got rid of my car in 2017. Never looked back. I live in NJ so easy to get around. Back than I was bussing it back to work. But now Working from home since 2021. Groceries delivered most things I need delivered. A car is a money buster lol an expensive convenience

Wow! Can't wait to see how your journey goes.
Much success to you Doug!
It’s not about getting by without a vehicle , it’s the extreme convenience of having one. This won’t last.

Hope this works for you. It will be interesting to see your video in say 6 months after you adjust and work out the kinks. Good luck.
