I did a lot of the mimicry advice and after mimicking you and clover for about 4 hours total (I started doing voice training about 4 days ago) I managed to pass 3 total times to specific individuals (one being a cis girl) in Valorant! I'm extremely confident now with this, much love and appreciation to you, the community, and Clover too! They were like the last pushing help I needed to nail this starting point!

Z, you are so, beyond amazing. I spent 4 years in transition, and after those years of work i would say i plateaued firmly at about 65% of the voice i wanted. I didnt understand fullness even with a grasp of resonance and pitch.
The resources that were available in 2015 to 2020 were so limited and sparse outside of paid professional voice lessons. I discovered you in the first couple months of my joyous and freeing re emergence from a dark and scary detransition. And in barely 3 weeks, i jumped straight up past my plateau and have found my 85% comfort....with no plateau in sight.
Id swear that im shining. Thank you beyond words for sharing with us.
    So much love 💚 Cami

I'm dealing with a bad time in my life right now socially, and the dysphoria on top of it is crushing when I'm not working on my presentation.
The past week I've been watching your videos has given me a real sense of purpose, and a focus to relieving the dysphoria through finally working against my boy's voice.
For this, thank you so much, I don't think I'd be as mentally stable right now without concentrating on the exercises you provide in your videos.
They make a small difference bit by bit but most importantly I don't sound like a boy when I'm playing with my voice, and that's all I need to keep my hope going.

Although I find the exercises etc from all of your videos quite difficult and have not seen much positive results in the past few months, I am so incredibly grateful for this resource, the amount of research into the science behind voice you have done really shows. No one explains or backs up their advice anywhere near as in-depth and accessable as you.
Thank you so much for taking the time to help us, even though I am struggling at the moment, for the first time I truly believe that my true voice will come to the fore with hard work and dedication.

I know this comment will be kinda cliche, but just keep practicing and you'll get there. I still literally can't differentiate between pitch and resonance but I just kept grinding at my voice (with lots of water and breaks of course) for a few months, tweaking things here and there, trying to sound incrementally better, and I'm at the point where some people, even in discord servers specifically meant for trans voice feedback, say my voice sounds good. I suck at voice and mimicing sounds and everything but I still made progress. Just give it a few months and make sure to record yourself so you can look back on the progress you have made!

Wow, this is the video I needed! I feel like this adds a new dimension to exercises from other videos even. A big struggle for me currently is consistently achieving the sounds I want right at the onset of vocalization, and I feel like it throws me off completely because I psyche myself out before I’ve even started speaking. I notice I have more difficulty keeping the same sound with certain single words/sounds than others and I think the different onsets required for different sounds is something I haven’t really considered yet until this video!

Thank you for making this video, this is an incredibly good explanation and demonstration of these concepts, most of the other videos i've found seem to expect some base level understanding, which you've now provided us with :)
I'm very new to this, and hadn't realized what i was doing wrong, the pressure was the biggest thing i was messing up, and i strangely enough, i found that by holding my body in a more composed "feminine" posture, i was able to get a more comfortable and natural regulation of the pressure than trying to do it manually while in the more slouched "masculine" posture, if that makes any sense.

I think we use closed offsets and too much pressure because when we raise our larynx, we do not think of it as lifting our larynx. Instead, we try to push up on our larynx. The analogy I can think of is instead of having the larynx float like a balloon, we keep seeing it our throats as a blocked pipe and keep pushing it with as much force as possible. That's how I am rationing it, makes sense as to why I feel like my voice is too breathy without any body to it, like a speaker with all the treble without any of the mids.

When I am working on my voice I am thinking about sound quality not mechanical positioning of my anatomy. This is so important and I have to stress it.
That said, primarily no -- everyone has an active speaking posture and resting posture. Our active speaking posture is what we primarily shift into during speech (this is true of all voices). Although over many years my passive resting posture has shifted less so for vocal reasons and more so for cosmetic reasons. Lightly pinning the tongue body to the velar area slims the neck / jawline more.

I'm new to singing practice and I'm 53. I don't really sound great but I have always liked to sing to myself - it's fun. This video has given me some targets so thank you. But I have some problems getting smooth onsets.
Problem one: I can feel my tone snap in. Literally it is like a permanent blocked onset. I breath into it and it still snaps in once I get enough air flow. A smooth onset only happens during specific tones or by accident. So I am trying to copy what happens during the tones that do smoothly come in. Man that is a lot of work and it rarely works. What can I do here?
Problem two: attempting to hold prolonged tones without fluctuating in and out of pitch. My throat feels weak. Is there a specific exercise I can do to manage it or strengthen my throat?
Problem three: That damned old person vibrato. I have always used vibrato. It was learned when I was younger. Now it is in every sustained tone. Does this relate back to strength in my throat? And if it does what can I do to keep that tone flat?
    Thanks.

It’s really the same thing! :) keeping the lips buzzing for a brass instrument involves balancing airflow vs valve tension! the bi-valve in this case is the lips instead of the vocal folds. balanced and efficient sound production is key! and that starts with the onset of sound. Great observation!

Thank you so much for this and every single other video you have made on the topic of voice modification or anything else!
I'm really happy to have been recommended your channel, since I am a transgirl and I'm really struggling a lot to feminize my dang low boy-voice.
Although one problem I have is the practicing. I'm very confused and lost. Like, how often do I do which exercises and for how long? And do I always try to speak with my feminine voice or just when I'm alone? How long might it take to hear a difference? If you could help me with this, I'd be the third happiest girl you've ever gotten a UA-cam comment from! :D
