This used to be a Tv series in the 1960s !! And for the series finale it broke all records on most watched episode for years to come!!! It was so exciting!!
I seen US Marshals before this, and personaly i think its better, its 3 years later so 1996 great year of movies and Robert Downy Jr is in it and the same cast Tommy Lee Jones and the rest of them
The Fugitive's final episode was aired on August 29, 1967, and it was the highest rated episode on television. It was eclipsed twice: first on November 21, 1980, when Dallas finally revealed who shot J.R, then on February 28, 1983, with the final episode of M*A*S*H.
Julianne Moore's part was originally going to be much larger. In the original script, there was supposed to be a romance between her character and Kimble. This was scrapped when it was decided that it just didn't feel right for the recently bereaved Kimble to "shack up" with someone else
Interesting to see if that would still have happened if it'd not been so early in her career....the tv show on which this is loosely based is a classic 🎩
The train jump wasn’t achieved using CGI. They used an optical effects company called Introvision, which specialized in rear and front projection techniques.
Has mom never seen the original tv series? That surprises me. In the series David Jansen played the Kimble character and he was on a train that crashes and that’s how he escaped. Good series and good retelling for this movie. A good funny movie with Joe Pataliano is Midnight Run which stars Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin. You guys would love it. Yes watch US Marshalls
If you can name the actress that Kimble walked away with in the last episode of TV's The Fugitive, you are a real fan. It was Diane Baker - who many years later played the senator in Silence of the Lambs.
One of the best adventure films of the 1990s! It’s also one of the great Chicago films, doing a terrific job of showing off not just the more touristy areas, but also the neighborhoods like where he gets the basement apartment from the Polish lady. Polish immigrants just like her were a big part of the city at the time-I worked just down the street from Little Warsaw at Belmont and Central.
I went to college in Chicago... lived in Bridgeport. You are so right about this movie showing off real aspects of the city. I love all Chicago movies but this is at the top of my list!
Director Andrew Davis has a pretty sweet resume of action hits, with The Fugitive being the crown jewel. He is a talented writer, cinematographer, director and producer. You should check out two Steven Seagal films: Under Siege (1992-one of my favs) and Above The Law (1988), both directed by Davis. Under Seige is basically Die Hard on the USS Missouri, with another great Tommy Lee Jones performance. The earlier Above The Law is simply classic Steven Seagal. Hope you watch them soon. 👍
US Marshals. It follows the same group of police (Sam, Cosmo, the kid) all of them not a sequel but you would enjoy it if you like this group of marshals because they are in it as well
Jeroen Krabbe, who plays Charles Nichols, had always a desire to play a villain, most notably in the James Bond movies, as explained in a Living Daylights interview and a press conference in Vienna
At the very end outside the hotel some of those reporters were “real” Chicago news reporters , watched them for years!! The red haired woman is Pam Zeckman and the older guy in the cap is John Drumamd !! Also Lester Holt was standing there too, at the time this was filmed he was on our local nbc news station and now he’s gone on to be on the National news!!!
The original TV series ran from 1963 to 1967 and was the first TV series to have a final episode that tied up the whole story. In that storyline Lt. Girard was not a US Marshal but he was the detective who investigated the original murder and, convinced of Kimball's guilt, chased him all around the country for four years (giving the opportunity for Richard Kimball to get involved in a different story every week and solve peoples' problems and help people fix their lives). Every show ended with Girard almost catching Kimball till the final episode when he catches up to Kimball just as Kimball catches up to the one armed man and Girard finally finds out that Kimball is innocent. It was the most watched finale episode for years, and is still in 3rd place behind "M*A*S*H" and "Cheers".
My mom said that she saw an interview once with the guy that played the agent in the TV series and he said that throughout the making of the show and after it ended he would have people come up to him yelling at him to stop hunting Kimball and that he was innocent. He had to try and explain to them that it was all a make believe show.
But it’s true! The US Marshals are charged with arresting fugitives, not trying to figure out if they are guilty or not. The mom had it right. Kimball was convicted in a court so that means, legally, he is guilty. It takes some legal action to declare him innocent. Whether the marshal thinks it is proper or not, he has to arrest him.
I am from Chicago. The neighborhood the one arm man was walking in when Tommy Lee Jones and his crew stopped him. I grew up not to far from there. I passed by there on my way to school everyday.
This was the first Harrison Ford movie I saw on VHS! It's one of my favorites! Tommy Lee Jones took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role as U.S. Marshall Sam Gerard. Based on the 1960's TV series of the same name.
They filmed the parade sequence with a permit but without any announcement-they just had a few cameras and the actors mixing in with the regular parade and onlookers. There’s one guy who does a double-take when he recognizes Harrison Ford, but it’s really quick.
For the actual jump, six dummies were apparently used in multiple takes. They cost about $12,000 each as they have some articulation built in. Due to the long fall they didn't look as realistic as people were hoping especially for that price tag.
The deal with finding the shackles has always bugged me. A prisoner transport having extra cuffs/shackles is common, so finding empty shackles means nothing. 🤣
This movie is based on the popular 1963-1967 TV show starring the handsome actor, David Janssen and it in turn was based on the true 1954 murder case of Dr. Sam Sheppard's pregnant wife in Bay Village, Ohio, an affluent suburb of Cleveland. I was born in 1953 & grew up in Cleveland & of course heard (overheard more likely, even when I was supposed to be playing in another room; amazing how far one's ears & hearing can stretch) re-telling & opinions about the case. Look up, SHEPPARD MURDER CASE/Encyclopedia Of Cleveland..., if your interested.
So glad you reacted to this gem of a movie!!! Nick Searcy who was the skeptical law enforcement chief type guy when Tommy first arrived on the scene was also the abusive husband in 'Freid Green Tomatoes ' .
I have to say you two have the most beautiful mom son relationship I’ve ever seen ….aside from my own, in life. Will dad ever make a special appearance? if not, is this woman solely responsible for raising an emotionally mature son, cause WOW! From your Sopranos reactions to this film, I can’t help but notice how open you two are spanning the spectrum of genres you both have explored together. Gives me inspiration that parental relationships can be open intellectually to consumption of varying styles of media while still remaining respectful. Kudos
"U.S. Marshals" is the somewhat sequel, with Tommy Lee Jones returning as the same character but he's chasing Wesley Snipes. (it's not as good but still worthy of watching)
US Marshals is more of a spinoff than a sequel. The Fugitive was so good, performed extremely well at the box office and Tommy Lee Jones (and his crew) were so good in it, that the studio decided to give them their own film. Wesley Snipes is well cast as is Robert Downey Jr. You guys should definitely check it out.
❤This is top tier movie making. This is based off of a TV 📺 from the 60s. This is one of Harrison Ford's best non Action Adventure films. This and Witness are gems. Sela Ward was so thrilled to be in a HF film that she took the part knowing she would only have a few scenes. The US Marshals is good but not great like this.
You can see what is left of thd train outside Dillsboro, North Carolina where a lot of the scenes were shot. The dam scenes was shot at Cheoah Dam north of Robbinsville, NC
One of my favorite movies from the early 90's - fantastic if you got to see it in a theater, specifically the trainwreck and dam scenes. What else could you want in a mystery/action movie? This movie has ZERO fat on it, and great pacing.
First time I saw this was in a barbershop after school. I watched this and Only The Strong while waiting my turn. Got home minutes to eight to an earful! Good times. This was Julianne Moore's first movie. I think her next was Assassins with Sylvester Stallone and Antonio Bandaras (could be wrong). No CGI was used when making this. The train jumping scene was cleverly done, re: Corridor Crew breakdown! All practical! I think it was sixteen Harrison Fords they tossed over the dam for the right amgle. The original tv series was cool too! I remember watching reruns after church Sunday mornings! US Marshalls was good too. Awesome sequel! Oh yeah! The parade scene! Tommy's crew was told to seek and Harrison was told to hide. They were genuinely playing the game and Ford won! Moore's character was supposed to have a bigger scene but it was cut. I think she was supposed to play a new love interest.
Do you want an excellent sports movie to watch? The best that was ever made was "Miracle", the true story about the 1980 USA Olympic hockey team. It's considered the greatest upset ever in any sport. Kurt Russell was phenomenal as the coach of the team. Don't worry, you really don't need to much about hockey to understand this movie. Give it a shot.
This was a crazy film to make. It was in the process of being rewritten as they were filming, so a lot of Tommy’s dialogue was improvised. He didn’t like the outhouse/henhouse bit and would only do it twice. It’s also probably why Julianne Moore has such a small part, it was probably written out.
This movie was a real crowd pleaser. One of the few smart action movies. Just found out that a lot of the script was made in the fly as they were shooting. Ford and Jones improvised a lot of dialogue.
This story was based on Dr. Sam Shephard, who was accused of murdering his wife. To this day, the prosecutor believes his guilt was rock solid, even though the evidence was circumstantial.
