Question - Why Kumkum was disappeared for 20 years?
Answer - She was in Pakistan for almost 20 years.
Born on April 22, 1934, KumKum hailed from that famous cradle of culture, Lucknow. She was educated privately in Lucknow and Banaras. KumKum started her career in Hindi films in early 1950s. Her debut Hindi film was Aansoo (1953), although some sources list her debut film as Mirza Ghalib (1954). KumKum established herself as a highly successful dancer in Hindi films including Ujala, Kali Topi Laal Roomal, and Kohinoor. Later she also appeared as a leading actress in few Hindi films including Mr. X in Bombay, Son of India etc. but failed to establish herself as a leading heroine. KumKum remained a particular favorite of Producer/Director Guru Dutt who used her in bit roles in Aar Paar, Mr & Mrs. 55, C.I.D. and Pyaasa. Another director who was known to have “soft corner” for KumKum was Mehboob Khan. KumKum played one of the side-heroines in his classic Mother India (1957). Later Mehboob promoted her as a leading heroine in his last produced film Son of India (1962) which bombed at the box-office. KumKum continued her career in Hindi films till 1970s before she got married and moved to Saudi Arabia.
