As someone who was previously terrified of the occult, I am so grateful to GOM. I have and use all their angelic magick books. My desire to know my HGA is where it all started for me and Magickal Destiny delivered. This led me on to their other books and the most intense, immediate result I have been rewarded with so far has come from using Mystical Words of Power. I don't care about pomp and ceremony and I enjoy the fact that someone else has done the hard work researching and testing the magick. I'm finding my path and don't think I would have taken the first steps if it wasn't for Foolish Fish and GoM.

Indeed, Mystical Words of Power has had incredible results in my life - absolutely amazing experiences; when Damon writes about “a feeling of Love that seems to come from _reality_ itself,” I had that experience, but it wasnt until reflecting on it days later, then recalling that I had performed the Ritual of Love a day or two before then…

How did the one about HGA work for you? I went through the process but it had no effect and I found the book too wordy and a bit childlike in trying to explain such simple rituals. Probably that disconnected me from the process a bit, I'm not sure. I might try again. I had even forgotten I had the book until I saw your post. Curious to know if it worked for you.

I am not a beginner. I've been practicing different forms and paths throughout my lifetime. I came to the GoM when I was quite advanced and found their instruction to be the path I most resonate with, that has done the most for me yet. So, I would say from my experience, the GoM isn't just for beginners or made for beginners. It is something however, that beginners can do, but just because someone can do something doesn't mean they should. I personally don't think it is beginner magick, just because beginners can do it. I REALLY love the GoM. I feel they have changed my life in indescribable ways. Admittedly, there are deeper aspects of magick and spirituality that should be adressed before doing magick and I personally think that should be addressed but it's obvious the GoM has a different pholosphy and does things in accordance with their own ways, so I respect that.

    • @wayist1159
      @wayist1159 5 місяців тому +3

I second that motion. What is missed in the analysis of the "simplified" aspects of GOM, is that, in order to do that and still have it work-- they must have a truly potent and effective understanding of the concepts and principles behind the magick. Someone just cutting and pasting at random could not reproduce the same product, and I am convinced that they have the experiences that they claim to have. Second, many of the "primary" sources that they are not acknowledging are terribly hard to understand for someone trying to come at it from a beginning perspective. One does not have to go far in the occult to realize that there are lies and real dangers on the path. GOM has reduced those hazards significantly!

Great video! I am currently on the last working of Wealth Magick. It’s been quite a ride. I’ve been involved with different traditions throughout my adult life, ten years in Fourth Way group, years between different Buddhist temples. I’ve always been pushed toward Magick. The GOM books have taken me from an armchair “magician” to actually developing a daily practice (with results). The Magical Cashbook was my first experience with their books and the results were so exact that it was nearly unbelievable. As you have said (in a roundabout way) these books have compelled me to dust off my accumulation of “Magick” books and actually delve into them with some confidence.

Update on some GOM ritual I've done: I've completed the MPR and the changes that happened were intense. The girl whom I was seeing (a Covert Narcissist that I didn't tell them I was doing this ritual), started having nightmares and felt like she needed to leave me to stop those nightmares. She claimed a spirit keeps telling her to leave. In addition, I found my voice (maybe because of the second genius in the ritual). So that whole situation was resolved without much from interaction. All in all, the energy around me is much, much better.
Then did the Magickal Cashbook. Didn't work in the 11 days. But on the 19th day, I got an email from my Credit card company telling me my credit limit has increased by THE EXACT NUMBER I'd requested.
Great first intro to hands on experience!

Part of my issue with the GOM was the lack of sources provided as well, though I have bought and used their material quite a lot. Magickal protection was one of my first buys. Like you, it pushed me to look further and figure things out for myself. You described a lot of the feelings I myself have had in this video, and I had actually slowed down a lot of practice from their books when I stopped realizing what I was working with. I still very much appreciate their work and how accessible it is. It has opened so many doors for me, just as you explained. Thanks for this.

The beauty of GOM is their simplicity. As someone who's terribly busy I simply don`t have time to research more and if they included more theory, I would have unfortunately cut through it or have abandonned the book, so their books are of great help for those busy beginners how just can`t afford serious study. I suppose that I can get into more detail about magick when I retire one day.

Herr Fish, I agree with you very much in this video. I wouldn't call myself a beginner and was practicing for some time before the GoM books emerged, but I like their books in general. One thing I've noticed (which may or may not be true for other practitioners) is that the "difficulty" of many of their books scales up the more you work with them. In other words, most of the GoM spellbooks are decent starting points that can be deepened (and, interestingly, that also cross-pollinate in terms of ritual technique and potential outcomes if you work with multiple GoM texts simultaneously over time and write down your experiences). Eventually, if you work with a particular GoM text long enough (and keep reading, researching, writing in your magical diary, and soberly evaluating your magical processes), you can grow into something which comes to look very much like one of the older, more elaborate forms of work. For example, working with Demons of Magick can ultimately lead you to the work of Joseph Peterson or Dr. Skinner, which may result in your evocations beginning to look a little "hybrid" and eventually you might start investigating some medieval / renaissance modifications, which then . . .

I tend to proceed with caution when it comes to my magickal practice. Magickal Protection, Magickal Destiny, and The 72 Angels of Magick have each provided me with the necessary first steps for slow and deliberate action. As I have grown more comfortable and clear in my understanding of what I am doing, as well as what is being done to and through me, my accomplishments have increased. And I can see that my focus will eventually shift into more complex work in the future. GOM has provided me with exactly what I needed to begin bringing my vision into reality. The work is too important to me to have proceeded otherwise. Thank you, Denis, for another wonderful video.

Well, I actually had I good first experience with TGOM. I got into magick and I became exactly a “couch magician” I got so many books and read so much and eventually did this and that but the information became overwhelming. So I got Words of Power by TGOM and I made a very simple ritual for “getting guidance” because the information was so bast and different I needed a guide. While I was doing it I thought it to be quite difficult to actually get a physical mentor but I did the ritual anyway. What happened is that a week after I found QUAREIA by Josephine Mcarthy and oh my god! That’s exactly what I needed, a 0 to 100 guidance to go in your on Rythm and by your own. So, that’s my experience, now I’m starting to read Demons of Magick and let’s see how that one goes.

And I can confirm that the GOM use pen names. Damon Brand shared this himself when he used to frequent his group page and online forums. I miss this days when we could message him directly and he'd respond and give more tips. He is an author of fictional works as well so he likes to keep his magickal works separate and private. He never did share his real name or the titles of his fictional works.

I won't lie, I've purchased quite a few GOM books. The results were so . . . scant (especially with my 72 angels of magic experience), that I pretty much exclusively worked with sigils for a long time. I get the results I want every time. I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong (and I'll tell you lust for results probably did play a higher role than with my sigils, which is pretty much non-existent), but I'm still interested in giving Demons of Magick a shot (more my speed i think compared to the shem-hamphorash). I can say that Magical Protection was my first grimoire, the sword banishing and master protection rites were my first rituals, and they got me on the path. For that I'm grateful

    Great review as always Dennis!
    I love the GoM!
Their hands on approach, straightforwardness and result driven system has done wonders to my practice.
I have been practicing for more than 35 years now, and thanks to the GoM I found several tweaks to make my practice more powerful, simpler and deeper.
The GOM + Lon Milo Duquette’s are two sources I am really thankful for.
Finding them have helped me streamline and make easier to understand and value Crowley, Dee, Agrippa, Peterson, Skinner, McCarthy, F.Acher and others…and the GoM system has enabled me to go “rogue” and find that chaos Magick that sometimes is needed to adjust my practice (as an example, I adjusted my LBRP because of them and it made wonders to the feeling and power of it)…
Someone said that all Grimoires at some point are personal tweaks to an old or traditional system…and I couldn’t agree more…the great thing about the GoM approach is that it works! And that is a great window and catalyst to help all practitioners get excited, evolve and grow their practice.
    Thanks again Dennis!

What?!? These GOM people?!? Those guys who simplify almost all hard magic in cheap, softcover books?!? Bastards, that's what they are! But most unforgivable of all is that what they teach… simply works! 😉
Now seriously: the GOM books I've read till now state that they studied grimoire and other traditional materials, and that all the simplifications they do come from these sources. But they don't name them, do they? Therefore, I agree with you that it would be really cool indeed if they made a clarification in some future work naming their sources.

GOM have been very valuable to me on my journey. Some of their books, I have had no results from. Others I have had fantastic results from. I am terrible at emotional transmutation, so I find that the more dependent the content of a book is on this ability, the less successful I am with its methods. I like the way the gallery simplify things and the way they offer a great smorgasboard of methods, entities and approaches. Most importantly, they were my first foray into certain types of magick and procedural structures - something my work in the preceding years had lacked.

My first chaos magic book was actually a GOM book. Adam Blackthorne's Master Works of Chaos Magic book, specifically. I feel like even though my chaos magic looks wildly different now, Blackthorne's "if it works it doesn't matter how" attitude was very informative to how I always approached chaos magic, and magic in generally actually (my witchcraft workings also operates on the question "well, does that work?", to the point that in my practice chaos magic and witchcraft are rarely differentiated). GOM books aren't bad, they're just basic enough to get the most important points across, and for beginners that can be powerful.

The first book on magic I ever bought was Scott Cunningham's Earth Power. It was back in 1998 I think. Incredibly simple! I'd go so far as to call it idiot proof. It wasn't my start with magic, but working out of it was the first time I started really feeling like a magician. Not long after that I got Summoning Spirits by Konstantinos. That was my first taste of ceremonial magic. Sure there are way better books out there, but these were perfect for cutting my teenage wizard teeth on 😊

I do however appreciate the points on accessibility and the way GoM has even served as a jump-off for deeper dives! I only have 72 Angels but my immediate concern was the "trust me bro" feeling I was getting. Nonetheless, I appreciate their body of work as it adds to the whole... diaspora... for better or worse. I choose better in the same way that 'there's no such thing as bad publicity'. Maybe that was a bad analogy but hopefully someone gets my rant. lol. Rant over.

As someone who really enjoys academic Material, I profoundly dislike how they deal with sources. They are quick to mention, unapproachable materials like Shorsei haShemot or Brit Menucha, but will not even passingly mention Jacobus G Swart, it almost feels like they are deliberately doing that, almost as if they were thinking "No, we are not giving them those names, otherwise they might actually figure out how to do this stuff by themselves". I still enjoy their rituals and their materials are often my first go to for a lot of stuff.

I also am a MMA and JKD practitioner, and as such tend to draw on many different arts, any one of which can be studied on its own for years. I suppose the kind of "wide but shallow" approach of the GOM appeals to me exactly because that's how I approach my other practices. The plagiarism issue is still an issue, but I appreciate GOM's beginner-friendly method.

I enjoy the books! I am an avid reader of seminal occult texts and adhere to the logic of doing magick when only absolutely necessary: emergencies. To say, I don't practice often, save for protection. When I do practice, the GoM books work perfectly to bring about the intended result as a bolster to my practical efforts or in the form of extra supernatural support within or outside my vision. I have all the books and have yet to work through them, but I know they're there when or if I need them -- and that alone also brings some comfort. There is no situation that can arise that one of the books doesn't seem to provide some aid - again, along with one's practical efforts, of course. I also agree with you regarding Magickal Protection: it's certainly a treat. I'd also recommend Angelic Protection: this is also good. My copies are dog-eared from extensive use. I could be speaking for myself, but what you do also begin to find is that these books make you quite self-reliant the more you use them; that is, the more you use them, the less you feel the need to. It's quite a paradox.

    • @arete7884

Its good to have a consistent practice as the more you do it the more you improve at magick, psychic senses and the easier it gets to manifest with just ones will but also necessary for long term attainment of certain qualities, the more one evolves the less rituals are needed to manipulate external reality as magick becomes part of you or better said you uncover it from within then you manifest with just will and intent .

This video came at the right time for me. I have three GoM books. First I used the protection book on your recommendation and I loved it. I didn't know what to try next but I felt drawn to 72 Angels and used that. For the third I got the Enochian magic book and although I felt something after the first ritual, carrying on from there just gave me a hollow feeling and it was very hard to focus. I'm finding myself forgetting to do the rituals for many days in a row which was never a problem with the 72 Angels. Maybe it's just not for me but I feel bad abandoning things (feels rude?), however since it takes over a year to finish I am not sure what to do. I wonder if Foolish Fish ever abandons long rituals or has deep opinions on that. I might try looking at the other Enochian sources you've mentioned and see if that works better for me. I find it a quite trivial matter of the ego wherein someone can find themselves easily frustrated after going through a lot of effort and difficulty to establish a way of doing things only to find out that someone else found a much simpler and efficient way to gain similar results. I personally do not see any of the ways inferior as I do see that every individual has been given their own path of discovery and it is up to them how they proceed on and develop it. Unfortunately, this kind of behaviour can be seen everywhere wherever human experience is involved, not only magic but in every field.

I've seen your recommendations for their sword protection ritual before, but I was intimidated by the lack of sources or information regarding the beings invoked. Seeing this and being able to look into the history of it all makes me want to read "The Book of Sacred Names" and then read back through the "Magickal Protection". In hindsight, it feels strange to have thought that this could be dangerous in the first place when I don't have any experience to go off of. At the end of the day, I'm still just taking someone's word for it before I try it. Still, knowing the origins makes it feel safer. Etymology and history are my personal comfort teddy bear.
