Great video! I have to agree with the things you’ve said in your replies to the other comments. The Yosemite pickups sound better that the Fat 50s: fuller, richer, fatter and cut better. I have the same guitar and absolutely love it. I had an American Standard with the Fat 50’s and the same greasebucket circuit before and never bonded with it.

Love my American performer with Yosemite‘s! In addition, using 10er strings and mounting all 5 springs will add that little extra to the tone..

@@wvillatoro Well, I am building the next video in which I make a really detailed comparison, but I would keep the Yosemite in. They feel more thick, bassy and generally speaking, pleasing to me.
To each his own, and I did some fine tuning on my own afterwards to really see if I liked the fat 50's.
The thing is, they feel weak compared to the Yosemite, and I've put the Yosemite back in after 2 weeks.
My fat 50'S kit is for sale ;)

Love both sounds for what they do. It's an ear thing. I have the 21' arctic Performer and love the Yosemite p/u's. Amp settings can always change them to sound like each other I suppose. I do prefer the cleaner, smoother sound. I have two MIM's aside from the performer. My 06' Blacktop w. HH is a screamer. My 04' Standard sounds old school.

I can never the get volume to balance correctly between the G and the b strings with these vintage staggers. I dont understand why fender love doing that even though guitars are spec'd so differently now. I always get boutique sets with modern staggers. I wouldn't mind trying these Yosemite pickups though.

Yosemite for me! That said, the CBS headstock is a big no for me. I'd be very curious to see how the Yosemite compares the V-mod II. I have a Pro II with those and I think they're spectacular.

After having rented the performer for a week, I've changed my opinion. In person, the Yosemite is quite compressed and doesn't have much dynamic range. It's very difficult to play dynamically and expressively clean with these pickups. This video is in a genre where this doesn't matter but if you want expressive and open pickups, the Yosemite isn't for you. I answered my own question re:V-mod II vs Yosemite and it's not even close. The V-mods are a cut above.

I feel like the Yosemites have more articulation, character and definition. They sound more organic and do the quack better for my taste.

Great demo showcasing the differences. Thanks for putting this together. Do you have a preference? I have the same guitar and was thinking about switching to the Fat 50s as well, but some folks said they can get muddy. I also may just need to give the Yosemites a bit more time

Love the Yosemites. They reward players with good picking dynamics and control. Use those volume and tone knobs…and try raising or lowering them to your liking.

Great demo of how limited the fat 50’s are in basic functionality.
It’s good to hear other exhibits of Fender thwarting inspiration from their peek a boo touch sensitivity note choke platform that seems to come and go no matter how carefully one phrases.
It is also a perfect demonstration of Fenders new patented “Anti Sustain Technology” AST™️ I wish I caught the clip two weeks ago. ✌️
