I actually enjoyed DA2 in terms of story more than I did DA1. DA1 had a larger scope, yes, but it was ultimately you vs the grandest of evils and saving the world, blah blah blah, same story we've heard a hundred times over. DA2 story was more subtle, with more interesting characters and a conflict where neither side was good and right. It presented me with far more difficult moral decisions and had me more gripped overall. Sure, in terms of gameplay mechanics, DA1 stands above DA2 head and shoulders, but that wasn't the point of the game for me. I didn't mind he rehashed enviroments as long as it told a great story, which it did.
I remember watching an episode of Teen Wolf with Gideon Emery, when he started talking I almost jumped out of my chair in surprise. For the rest of the episodes I called him Fenris, because I had a hard time remembering his name ( Ducalion I think?)

It’s indicative of the poor writing in 2: rather than honestly depict the conflict between the mages and the Templars, all the mages are innocent little victims with no agency and all the Templars are cruel, vindictive, and bloodthirsty...not to mention morons for keeping hold of the red lyrium.
I agree. Weakest part of this game had to be level design. I think the plot could have used some fixing up and more personal dialogue with companions, but yeah. I think the biggest problem people had was just the recycling of dungeons and the fact that Hawke wasn't like he Inquisitor or the Warden. Not a "hero."
+Rowan Buchanan I think Hawke being a person as opposed to a chosen one was good. It was more like mass effect, in that you don't really play you. In inquisition and origins your character can be you, but Hawke is a character in his own right. His tragedy is a really great story. Think about it. His father is dead. His sibling may as well be (or is, I got lucky and brought Anders). His mother is killed, Gamlen is a dick, and he ends up dead in inquisition anyway, leaving his romance parter alone.
Haha, I can see how he would just go "Boom!" and blow up an entire enemy homebase, while some odd things remain standing by "not enchantment". The overall experience would be... "Yaaayyyy!" :D (Honestly, though, I actually think he could be too OP to put in a balanced party)
Gideon Emery is amazing. I remember him on Grimm playing phoenix-type Wesen, doing the voice of the suave and sarcastic Sky Pirate Balthier on Final Fantasy XII, and a few other things. He is an amazing voice actor in this game as well.
Jean gilpin as Meredith was by far one of my favourite voice actors in dragon age 2. Odd that she is so under appreciated by da fans. She did a tremendous job. There were times that she swayed me to believe that she was the only sane person in Kirkwall and everyone else was crazy! I replayed da2 and this city of Kirkwall was the zaniest place ever!! Oddly humorous and oddly frightening. Meredith I secretly believe was driven insane not by red lyrium but by the blissfully happy decent of the population of that city into madness and chaos. And Fenris is hardest character to romance in Dragon Age series especially when I play as a mage but it's so WORTH it when he says "I'm yours", it's more than I love you.

Only reason why I played this disgustingly simple game 4 times was the excellent characters and magnificent storylines that they had! DA:I is even more amazing as a game but it just lacks the personal depth with it's stories, than what DA2 had.
according to the lore, Kirkwall was turned by the Imperium into a gigantic blood ritual, causing such problems as failed Harrowings, constant problems with blood mages, people getting lost and a Veil so weak that demons could come in easily enough and in such numbers that they hunt down normal people because there's too much competition to get to the mages.
This was my favorite game of the series. The banter between characters was always entertaining. I hope they bring fenris and varric back in the next game (4). I had hoped they would have included fenris in the inquision but sadly not. Also why do they not allow varric to be a love interest in the storyline?

I did like it on release but was disappointed at the same time, and looking back on it I realize that it was because of my expectations post Origins.
