    So many new to me varieties, thank you for sharing. You should do short varieties on the front of the fence and tall in the back!

      That’s a good idea! I think there’s space between the Knock Out Roses, and even if not I can prune them back. Thanks for visiting!

      @@AdventuresinGardening There's so many dahlia varieties I wish were tall instead of short

    Hi! I just found your channel and you have a beautiful border. Dahlias have been one of my favourite flowers since childhood and I started growing them in my garden this summer in earnest. I don’t think it was great year for them but I enjoyed the few blossoms I got (I am in zone 5b in Canada)-just dug my tubers today so your garden gave me lots of joy :)

      Glad you enjoyed the video! Pre-sprouting helps get them up and growing…in my opinion 🙂 Looking forward to next year already!

    If you want a few more tall dahlias, try Terracotta which is super floriferous and tall. It's a pretty terracotta color and semi-cactus. Hollyhill Dr. Rick was easily over 6ft in my garden this year! It's a red cactus and beautiful. Holly Jitterbug is another 5+ feet tall yellow semi cactus and was loaded with blooms for me. Pineland Princess grew over 5ft for me in my garden and its covered in pretty pink/lavender and white laciniate blooms.

    Beautiful ❤ I garden in Long Island, zone 7b. My question to you is, how do you deal with earwigs and now lantern flies that devour dahlias?

    • @AdventuresinGardening
      @AdventuresinGardening  Місяць тому

      I can’t address the lantern flies because I actually only saw the first one here this year, we’ll see how things progress next season I guess! As far as earwigs go however - I use the first blooms as traps and walk around with a big bowl of soapy water and ‘empty’ the flowers. I also use old tuna cans (partially covered) at the base of the plants with oil and water. June bugs are a pretty big deal here, like BIG. I use the yellow bowl method to deal with them and it works pretty good. The video with info on that is ‘Garden Easier and Healthier with Less Work’ if you want to know more.

    Beautiful collection, they are addictive for sure! My favorites remain Café Au Lait and Shiloh Noëlle, but this year I planted Sweet Nathalie and Café de Paris, which are so lovely as well. I live in Belgium and the slug problem was (still is!) horrendous!

      Slugs are terrible here but usually just early in the season. I’ll be checking out your favorites! I actually do have a Cafe au lait but it’s been a bit of a dud. I’m hoping when the clump gets bigger it’ll take off. Thanks for visiting!

    Hello, my Polka is 6 feet, so not a short one. Love all your dahlias. I live in The Netherlands and I am a great dahlia lover. Kind regards from STUDIO ROOTS, Joke Blokland.

      @AdventuresinGardening  Місяць тому +1

      Thanks for the input on Polka! I can’t remember if I said it in the video or not but I haven’t had it for all that many years and it did struggle the first couple, but now it seems to be doing pretty good. I look forward to the future years with it! Any suggestions on a favorite of yours I should seek out for my garden? 🙂

      @@AdventuresinGardening I love all dahlia's but like Polka there are a lot of anemoon dahlia's. My most favorite is the OCTOPUS SPARKLE its a very nice and also funny one. From the dinnerplates Belle of barmera and Penhill dark monarch are my most favorites. I grew 75 different dahlias this year in a small part of my flower garden. With some dahlia's I dye my wool for knitting. With the red ARNHEM I dye orange and with the Honka black dahlia I dye my yarns purple.

      Thank you! I’ve linked my favorite place to buy dahlias right now in the description box (Fleur Farm) and also the video from last year when I put the dahlias to bed. I always let the frost hit them and then wait at least a week if not 2 before I dig. Thanks for visiting!
